    People focusing on uniqueness is what makes it boring. The people who try to be unique end up pulling from the same inspo (which is so wild) instead of what ACTUALLY interests them. And when you focus on what interests you, you won’t care about looking unique cause you like it. And then in turn you’re one of the “unique, cool” ones that end up as inspo. Vicious cycle fr

    People shop on thrift shops not to save the planet but to have clothes no one has.. That part I was like faaacts, like please stop pretending, if you thrift 4 times a month for clothes sorry you are as much of a consumer as everyone else. Nobody needs that many clothes, second hand or not.

    • @cocochinelo
      @cocochinelo  23 дні тому +25

      you are so right. overconsuming secondhand clothes is no better than overconsuming fast fashion! the point is the NOT overconsume AT ALL!

    i was on tiktok one day and came across some creator who had on a white collared long sleeve shirt and a tube top on top of it with some pants or a skirt. someone commented below saying “omg can i copy this look? its so cute!” she responded “sure ofc! just make sure you give me credit” 😐😐😐😐 credit for literally having the exact same outfit that you see on Pinterest countless of times. i wanted to throw my phone across the room.

    Oh my god, I feel like you've vocalized my whole issue with these "death of personal style videos" in 14 minutes. Like the whole idea of people dressing the same, isn't some new thing, like it's been done for literal decades. It even happened as kids. The part where you talked about people's personal connection made me think of styles like gyaru and emo/goth that purposefully deviate from the accepted norm, and how these people don't just follow the aesthetic clothing wise, but they're true to it, and now especially with the rise of social media, people now can dress like those styles, but not really live in it.
    Another thing, when you mentioned the part of people "paying" for things, it reminded me of how small fashion designers will make a piece and share it on social media, then it pops up on places like shein, fashion nova, etc. People pour their blood, sweat, and tears into these pieces, only to have their designs be massed produced for public consumption, which then cycles into the whole idea of exclusivity. Overall, well done video

    I think it's really eye opening when I realised that the more you get into fashion, the more similar you become to those who don't care at all. You find what you love and know where to find it. This can be seen by big creative directors themselves not being the most glamorous simply because their days are full of decisions already and decision fatigue is real. There may be the occasional piece that catches your eye, but you have go-tos

    Anyways in terms of the uniqueness discourse you’re so spot on about even the people who dress ‘unique’ also just dressing the same😂 I think there’s no running away from us all looking the same especially with social media.

    Historically there have always been cultural uniforms. It's okay to dress like everyone else, most people do even if their style is considered unique. We are obsessed with this image of uniqueness and individuality that brings us to consume more. Be more mindful and shop less clothes dont say as much as your words and actions.

    U can be unique if your style HAPPENS to be unpopular. Not because I intend to be unique or unpopular, but because it just so happens to be that what I like is what most ppl don't. I estimate I'm probably a 1 in 500 thousand kind of case. 😅

    This is a great recc by the algorithm and expresses a lot of how i felt about the rise of alt fashion since 2020.
    I feel that if you truly love things like alt fashion and jfashion you should only be excited about people getting into the clothes and community you love.
    Instead once these various out there styles hit the mainstream 2020 on, for many people it was just a way to feel unique and ~weird~ and superior, not out of a general love or interest in these styles, and that's proven by how many of those people moved on from it quickly because suddenly too many people liked it, and there was an expectation of community they didnt want

    The easiest thing is to buy what you like when you like don’t try to fit in or not. being you is doing what you like not everyone else. All the influencer telling us to be unique tell us to follow something again so as I said being you means do what you like.

    Love this vid! I just grew out of the obsession of trying to be distinct while trying to fall into a trend at the same time. It made me unhappy and too obsessed with my look. I went from fashionnova, ig baddie to a country , vampire inspired look! I just picked clothes based on my interests! Not because I want to be different

    spectacular video and great views!!! as someone who got complimented for their style from a young age and for a long time, that validation became something i sought after for a long time! and with the growth of pinterest, i felt as though my style was being copied and hated it because I placed my value and identity in my style! but you are so right! it is fueled by ego and is something i've been trying to heal/ navigate for a while! could your next video maybe be practical tips on how to suppress this? or maybe speak more on what it means to suppress that ego?
