Even the ImJinGak river bridge is new. It was a one way bridge when I served there, made with wooden planks. Did you get the chance to visit some of the tunnels? Did you get a chance to see the QRF area? The Swiss/Swed Compound is no longer there? Man those guys were a blast to hang out with. The UN Compound in Seoul was a blast as well.

Very well made and interesting video. It's a high possibility with the recent events taking place in Korea that the Joint Security Area won't be in existence for much longer, you're very lucky to have visited and made this video before that happens.

I notice how the soldier always puts things in a *_"request-ish"_* format (albeit a strong one implicit of an order)......
_"Please do not point wave gesture towards them in any manner"_
_"The only thing I ask... that you please do not take pictures of is the cameras..."_
_"I ask that you please do not disturb them"_
_"...All I ask is that you please cross back and forth between North and South Korea at that end of the table..."_
This format completely dissapears when he gets to.....
_"*Do not attempt* to cross behind the soldier at the rear. He's guarding the door to North Korea"_
I'm guessing that one is pretty damn iron-clad for a reason lol.

Thanks for the Video. I was stationed at PanMunJom/JSA in 1988/99. It was an honor to serve as an American Soldier there. The week and hours were long, but all worth it. I'm truly amazed at how much the UNCMAC area has changed. The tours however are still the same. However, They were holding eachother to lock the north UNCMAC door back then as well for the same reason. Thanks for the tour down memory lane, US Army Retired!

I'm certainly not trying to answer for, or to speak for _Jansen_, as I do not know them. I'd *suspect* though, that it doesn't bother them whatsoever to be expected to be a _better person_ than a childish, communist soldier who likely hates their life anyway.
It certainly doesn't bother me to treat my fellow humans equally even through others are openly racist. Or, that some people can drive drunk and not get caught, while I'm told not to.
Besides, I've *no* doubt at all that - given the number of visitors - there _are_ American (and other) tourists who wave to, make faces at, display middle fingers toward, and direct all manner of other childish behaviors regularly at the North Koreans despite these requests and warnings. But then, I'd have to ask............. *_Why?_*
Why _wave_ arrogantly at the North Koreans - a significant percentage of whom did nothing wrong except be unlucky enough to be born in a massive shithole of a country, and join the military because it's one of the _only_ ways in that nation for their family to not go hungry and to not be in constant danger? Why? To what end would you be _waving_ at them?
Many of the people whom you would be _waving_ at would at any time gladly sign a contract agreeing to have one of their limbs amputated via steak knife, with no anesthetic, just for the opportunity - _considered a mere "vacation" by us_ - for their families to be allowed to stand where you are standing while _waving_ at them; to be able to take their child's hand, turn around and walk southbound away from those buildings, board a bus, and go anywhere in the world that they wish, just like you and I can.
This is one of the most heavily militarized and tense places on this planet. It represents the end of the _physical portion_ of a conflict in which thousands of young, vibrant, potential-filled people died horribly and painfully, leaving behind terribly devastated mothers, fathers, siblings, and even children. Or, whose one and only life on this earth was abruptly and violently cut woefully short before they ever got to experience the absolute awe of gazing into the eyes of a child which they created.
It is also a place where - *at any given moment - a conflict just as serious (or likely much worse) could very literally erupt over JUST ONE single, simple, even **_unintentional_**, gesture or action*; a _completely accidental_ weapon discharge; a simple disagreement between two humans with emotions; *one*, solitary, lone, rouge soldier's misstep or temper; or any other of a thousand - normally unimportant - potential actions. Hell, even an innocent medical emergency or a fire could be the spark that starts a war involving the young adults of many nations, kills a hundred thousand innocent people, or even initiates the first use of nuclear weaponry in over 70 years.
*_"We"_** (civilians and tourists- much less American ones) really do not even belong there in the first place.*
I suspect however, that authorities are willing to allow our presence at this immensely important location on the world's stage only because they are able to rely heavily on the assumption that those who wish to visit such an important, solemn, tense and dangerous place to begin with, are likely *_far better individuals_* than the type who would journey to *_another people's_* nation, ride *_their_* buses and use *_their_* roadways, just to stand at *_their_* border next to *_their_* soldiers and *purposefully antagonize **_their_** sworn enemies* from *_their_* soil.
Were I ever to personally visit a place on earth were a single person's actions could spark a violent and awful war among nations, I can guarantee you that *nobody would ever even have to **_ask_** me not to **_wave_*.

It's surreal just to watch it from my comfortable, quiet, peaceful Midwest American home; I can feel the tension just watching it, and cannot imagine what it must feel like to stand a few feet from a door where N Korean soldiers have attempted to _drag_ free people into their country.

Both the ROK and US soldiers would make every attempt to stop you from getting across the border. If you were to make it across, you would likely be grabbed by a KPA soldier. If you did manage to make it back across to South Korea, you would be safe from the North Koreans but would likely face some serious retributions...

Anakin Skywalker Various reasons, they'd likely do so in order to use you as a propaganda piece for their country, assuming you are American or from a western country. They'd also use you and other foreign prisoners as "bargaining chips" to extort better results from western countries when it comes to things like sanctions and whatnot.

The Soviets played an equal role in partitioning Korea. All we wanted to do was stop the spread of communism. Which has not and will not work. USSR toppled by 1991, N Korea millions of citizens starving, and China in 20 years a large portion of their population will be dead and men will greatly out number women due to that one child policy.
