The Pro-Argentiine (anti-British, let's face it) comments on here are nothing short of bizarre. There are only so many ways a group of infantry can attack and win a large hill against dug in defenders so this, regardless of dramatisation, cannot be far off what actually happened.

The decision to wear regimental berets was made to help British troops identify each other in the heat of battle if lit up & silhouetted - the Argentinians all had the US style helmets on - so if you saw round & smooth - target ..if flat & canted to one side, friendly

Dont bite my head off But If you look at the facts The Argentinians did not have there best defending the Falklands If they had there best I think the outcome would have been very different there best were defending there own home land at the time Why the British never took tanks to the Falklands is beyond me The ones that were there performed very well indeed another cock up Bringing Guards men from public duties was madness There were much better Army Regiments who were prepared for war in Germany so why were they not used ???
the ceremonial units from each guards regiment are typically one company in size and is a small part of each guards regiment the soldiers that took mount tumbledown where apart of 1st battalion Scot’s guards which are highly trained infantry soldiers and are some of the most skilled soldiers the British army have to offer. a large portion of the Argentine defenders at mount tumbledown where professional marines although there was also a sizeable contingent of conscripts too. And the Argentines almost won the battle how ever members of left flank company which is the company depicted in this scene lead a bayonet charge up the mountain to the final Argentine positions and took the top of the mountain and suffered some heavy casualties while doing so As for moving tanks that’s more about the topography of the falklands being very mountainous so moving armoured regiments is just too expensive and isn’t really the right tool for the job in that terrain for this situation you get more valuable fire support on this type of ground from artillery and the Royal Navy. Hoped this helped mate

I would say this war was the worst case scenario a soldier could possibly encounter. One would like to think that if you had to fight in a war it would be against horrible bad people such as Muslim fundamentalists but these people were ordered to fight and kill other decent people over some useless windswept rocks and heather in the South Atlantic and all because of a matter of national pride. Very sad.

The people are British and you cannot change this. They have the right to self-determination. You should now accept this. You can always visit the Falklands as a tourist though. :)
At least they fought better than the 350,000-strong BEF during the Battle of France in 1940. Not to mention the poor performance of the 120,000 British Imperial Army during the Battle of Singapore in 1942.
In the documentary 'We Where There : The Battle of Mount Tumbledown' (available on UA-cam), Robert Lawrence finally sets the record straight, saying he was most probably shot from his own side, in others words 'fragged' by his own platoon after bayoneting the wounded Argie.
The Scots guards were up against one of Argentina's best in the Marines of BIM-5 a cold weather trained and equipped, marine battalion. During preparations for movement to the Falklands, the Marine battalion was brought up to full strength of a light brigade with a company of the amphibious engineer company and a battery of the 1st Marine Artillery Regiment. These guys had time to prepare their killing zones were well dug in and had the command of the high ground. They were not little seventeen year old kids with no experience. The Scots Guards had just completed guard duty in the UK (I.E The folk you see with the large fury hats guarding palaces). They fought against this trained, experienced well equipped enemy who had command of the high ground at night and still came out victorious.
This is the stuff of nightmares! Regardless of what side you were fighting for, this is terrifying! RIP all those who died in this conflict!

Dont bite my head off But If you look at the facts The Argentinians did not have there best defending the Falklands If they had there best I think the outcome would have been very different there best were defending there own home land at the time Why the British never took tanks to the Falklands is beyond me The ones that were there performed very well indeed another cock up Bringing Guards men from public duties was madness There were much better Army Regiments who were prepared for war in Germany so why were they not used ???
ua-cam.com/channels/DlqBl2mO1hCUpx73tH-Xsg.html
the ceremonial units from each guards regiment are typically one company in size and is a small part of each guards regiment the soldiers that took mount tumbledown where apart of 1st battalion Scot’s guards which are highly trained infantry soldiers and are some of the most skilled soldiers the British army have to offer. a large portion of the Argentine defenders at mount tumbledown where professional marines although there was also a sizeable contingent of conscripts too. And the Argentines almost won the battle how ever members of left flank company which is the company depicted in this scene lead a bayonet charge up the mountain to the final Argentine positions and took the top of the mountain and suffered some heavy casualties while doing so
As for moving tanks that’s more about the topography of the falklands being very mountainous so moving armoured regiments is just too expensive and isn’t really the right tool for the job in that terrain for this situation you get more valuable fire support on this type of ground from artillery and the Royal Navy.
Hoped this helped mate
@@papajacksdiscountmemes4416 we did a study of this and i came to the conclusion why was a spearhead battalion not used who were trained up to speed and ready My Guess is some one at the top said THe Guards need to be part of this The British Infantry Brigade was not a good choice and if you read the reports from RM and Para senior officers they were a mistake which could have been done without badly organised badly lead and under trained
Not true on Tumbledown was a Marine battalion defending last major hill before PS.
@@paulmckearney4945 Read what I have said They did have marines on Tumbledown but the Majority who the British fought were conscripts second rate

Feel free anytime Patricio!!
Patricio Lopez, you won't be back. Your military today in real terms is far weaker than 1982, your economy is weak. We've just built two new aircraft carriers and you have none. The people are British and you cannot change this. They have the right to self-determination. You should now accept this. You can always visit the Falklands as a tourist though. :)
Yeh good luck with that

Argentina isn't even a proper country. No money and no decent soldiers either
At least they fought better than the 350,000-strong BEF during the Battle of France in 1940. Not to mention the poor performance of the 120,000 British Imperial Army during the Battle of Singapore in 1942.

@GHOST PUNISHER You do realise that the Argentines also deployed marines and special forces units to the falklands as well right?
