I am always surprised how movies that started out as total bombs became popular over time. Same thing happened with John Carpenter's "The Thing." Disappointing box office, but now considered a true classic of the genre.

The story goes that the monologue was meant to be much longer. Rutger told the director he did not think it had to be and modified it, so that it was shorter and slightly different. We are all glad that he did. I think it would have lost it's impact if he had left it as originally written.

I had the pleasure of working in all the outdoor scenes in Bladerunner as a utility stuntman. I drove most of the vehicles you see manuevering through the street. In retrospect, it wasn't always a pleasure, in fact, most of the time it was pretty miserable. Ridley was a demanding task master, and had constructed three gigantic sprinkler heads over which was once Warner Bros. "New York Street," turning it into a future LA. Scott began his career as a set designer which is why I believe his sets were so detailed and incredible to work in, in fact every time I went to work I felt as though I was in an entirely different world, and I think that this also helped the actors achieve even more moody performances. Harry Ford was an extremely kind and gentle man, with absolutely none of the typical ego you find with many other stars. We worked every night from 6PM to 6AM and I received very little sleep, but the end result was well worth it and I believe that everyone that worked on the picture will agree.

i`ve read several books on the making of Bladerunner, it sounded horrendous, but it certainly is one of the standout sci fi films of all time, i would be very proud to have been involved in any aspect of this classic
The film was made in 1982 without a lot of tech, and Ridley Scott’s 1st Hollywood film, and low budget. The story wasn’t moving, but Dick’s dark, dark world was brilliantly visualized. In Top Gun 1986, Tony Scott was director, and the producers Bruckheimer and Simpson thought it was a mess; they did a cattle call for the soundtrack (afterall, their previous Flashdance and Bev Hills Cop were music videos first, and movies second) and 300 submissions were made. Top Gun was a blockbuster but they didn’t have those feelings when it was being edited.
The stark and unexpected contrast of suddenly seeing what can best be described as humanity shine through at the twilight of his existence, when what we came to expect is violence and hate, is so incredibly poignant. He just wanted to live and like a human, he was angry and afraid at the fate imposed on him by others. As soon as he faces the reality of the end, his anger and hate washes away and you see only the pain and sadness which are behind most of the hate and anger that we all feel. It was a brilliantly well setup moment. These are scenes that take an entire movie to build towards, but Christ the pay off was there. Wonderful.
The more often I watch this movie, the more I realize that it is one of the best movies I ever saw. Oddly enough, this was not the case from the beginning. First time I saw it, my enthusiasm had it limits. But as time gone by and I got older and older I got complete other feelings. The Tears in Rain Scene gets me meanwhile everytime I see it. Maybe Rutgers greatest performance. RIP Rutger

In life there are survivors and there are those that renounce their privilege of freedom. I'm the former, and if a character resonated profoundly on the person I am as I am, it would have to be Rutger Hauer in this movie. The poignant line: By Rutger's character, I have seen things many have never witnessed.....It's no surprise people think I am an alien. Happy travels where ever you are...

The late Rutger Hauer wrote in his book "All Those Moments" that his portrayal of Roy Batty in "Blade Runner" was the best job he ever had. Yes, it was...and he was and still is the heartbeat of this gorgeous classic. Marvelous!

"All those moments in time will be lost like tears in the rain" That stuck! with me when I was young! and saw this movie. When first came out. Especially now that I see my own end in the Horizon! . But not feeling sorry for myself but rather grateful for it's been a wonderful life. Amen^
Ridley Scott's work leaves a precedent of thought.. I've always found some of his works, deep, mysterious, philosophical. Rewatching again, having multiple hidden meanings, especially as you change with your life your own perceptions attitudes.. He holds the mirror up very well.
Works like this movie, mostly ignored at first, but they ripple out across time and our lives until we finally realize the truth of them. The power of such things keeps us alive and moving ahead. Beauty in cinema.

I saw this movie in 82 down town LA with my pops. Oct 28-23. Having a drink 🥃. Still listening all those memories. Love you Dad
Several decades later this is still one of my all time favorite movies.
Tears in the Rain, what a beautiful song....RIP Rutger Hauer
"All those moments in time will be lost like tears in the rain" That stuck! with me when I was young! and saw this movie. When first came out. Especially now that I see my own end in the Horizon! . But not feeling sorry for myself but rather grateful for it's been a wonderful life. Amen^

after all this time, i still get shivers up my spine seeing this scene. perfection is not easy to come by but, here we see it.
Ridley Scott's work leaves a precedent of thought.. I've always found some of his works, deep, mysterious, philosophical. Rewatching again, having multiple hidden meanings, especially as you change with your life your own perceptions attitudes.. He holds the mirror up very well.
the soundtrack is amazing. I still listen to it. Blade runner blues. Blade Runner love theme Vangelis
Beautiful and always memorable. Sci fi at its very best
Works like this movie, mostly ignored at first, but they ripple out across time and our lives until we finally realize the truth of them. The power of such things keeps us alive and moving ahead. Beauty in cinema.
Yes amazing film and now 42 years later we are again appreciating how great it was and particularly this sequence. Timeless.
RIP Rutger, a great actor for the ages.
This Is Epic. One Of The Greatest Scenes In Movies Ever Made. Timeless Masterpiece.
Back in the days when movies were made out of inspiration, and actually were Art.
Rutger Hauer, was für ein toller Mann mit viel Charisma. ❤
Still the best sci-fi ever made in my opinion.
Iconic . One of the best scenes ever in cinema :)
Quei momenti magici che regala il cinema.
La potenza della sceneggiatura, la maestria della regia, il talento degli attori, la bellezza circonfusa della fotografia e una colonna sonora intensa e profonda che moltiplica il momento rendendolo magico
Grazie a tutti
