I remember this when it first came out, I'm showing my age here... excellent film, excellent job by Colin Firth and in my opinion its one of the best films made about this brutal conflict........ Great Britain 1, Argentina 0.🇬🇧🇬🇧✌✌
Thank you for uploading this marvellous film. Colin Firth is magnificent. The way Thatcher and the establishment dealt with the injured Falklands veterans was a scandal, quite shocking. That makes this film even more powerful!
@@johnnunn8688 nothing funny about sending a task force thousands of miles to the south Atlantic to fight a war over a group of islands few people had heard of .Losing over 250 British service personnel and alot of hardware just to keep a certain prime minister in office.
@Justin Time I of course I agree with self determination that's why the UK is breaking away from the European union. Scotland may also decide to break away from union with the United kingdom.
My goodness! I remember watching this excellent drama on the A&E Channel back when they aired first rate programs! Young Colin Firth starred in it two years after his role in the miniseries ‘Lost Empires’.
I remember watching a documentary on the Falklands. Apparently, according to an Argentine soldier, they knew they were going to lose the war the moment they realized that British officers led their soldiers into battle - unlike their own commanders.
Argentinian Officers ran from Mt Longdon, Tumbledown...whilst leaving young conscript combatants to get killed or captured. This is documented by British Forces. Once Argentinian Marines realised that British Para’s were still advancing, even though the Argentinians had the massive advantages of Night Scopes, their officers and Marines, ran away.

I decided to join the British Army as an Officer after watching this I even rolled up to Sandhurst in a Morgan sports Car and yes I did It got a Commission and Five Years of fun and games lol
My favourite line in this classic telling of this story is this: 'You're in the RAF. Are you a flier?' 'No, I'm a doctor'. 'Well, look at this fist, it's about to give you your first fucking flying lesson!'
I'm getting quite sick of the "tit-for-tat" remarks and the childish insults against one another. Politics aside, do people not realise the horror of this war? Do people not realise that almost 1000 soldiers perished as a result, with many more wounded? This movie doesn't celebrate or glorify war, in fact it just shows how futile, destructive and saddening it is, so why start childish internet fights over who won or who the islands belong to? Instead, how about you actually commit yourselves to the path to peace and reconciliation and sustainable development, because that is what will end conflicts. This is aimed at the Argentines, British and anyone who's here just to stir the pot.
The shit keeps going because Argentina and Britain know of oil and minerals to be plundered. If this wasn't the case we would still think the Falklands were a Scottish island. My view is those who died in the war (RIP to both sides) died for a reason...... when did we ever see a military force fly and sail over 7000 miles to reclaim an island because a few people asked the British? why let so many die for an island with nothing to offer but sex tours molesting sheep?
Kirk Caveat Mate, your missing a big point here......as long as money is to be made then people do not care, where money is concerned people have no friends, family, country, ect
Monster LMA The very cynical side of me says different. Someone back then must have known of the wealth to be plundered. Would Zimbabwe for example have been reclaimed by Britain if it had natural wealth? I certainly dont buy into the 'the islanders asked for help' thing. The British goverment wont even listen or take care of the needs of servicemen and women, so listening to a few sheep lovers a few thousand miles away?
Monster LMA As an ex Scot's Guard we didn't, however Laurence had a bit of a flamboyant side to him by all accounts, and on run's that he lead he could belt out what he wanted, but your right its certainly not the rule.
The programme was very controversial at the time in-fact so much so that it was cut for rudeness by the BBC and has never been shown uncut as the films character was very critical of the way the British Government handled the affair and treatment fellow service men after combat. And Rightly so!. Richard Hartley composed a Waltonesque score which has also never seen the light of day. What a shame.
I think you find the RN assured victory as how would you have got there :0) The victory was down to all 3 services working together with one goal in mind -liberation of our island. Without one the other won't succeed.

13.53 Chelsea barracks. Not there anymore. Lived there with F coy Scots Guards just before it shut down, it was literally falling to bits.
