  • April 18, 1962 - Above is just a portion of the damage Boston Celtics guard Sam Jones inflicted in the second half of his team's championship-clinching 110-107 overtime win over the Los Angeles in Game 7 of the 1962 NBA Finals. After scoring just two points in the first half, Jones erupted for 25 in the second half, balancing his pinpoint mid-range jumper with his ability to drive to the basket with great aplomb. Jones' teammate, a man named Bill Russell, chipped in with a solid 30 points and 40 rebounds. Not bad, Bill. Not bad.
Jones, a five-time all-star, was a key piece of 10 championship teams over the course of his 12-year career. In addition to being named to the Basketball Hall of Fame, he was also chosen as one of the NBA's Top 75 players during the league's 75th anniversary season in 2021.

While one of the all time shooting guards,he (along with Red Auerbach and damn near every other player on the late 50s and 60s Celtics) was at the end of the day only a cog in the Celtics dynasty because of Russell.Without Bill,Red and those guys would've only maybe won 1 title.

I agree, though I think that Sam was probably the 2nd most important player of the Celtics dynasty after Russell. He hit a lot of clutch shots during their run.
