Nice. I cycled this from Ravenglass last year. A good trip. Nice to be reminded about the route. Thanks.
Thanks for watching atb Dave ⛺️🚲👍🏻
Nice film Dave, enjoying your bikepacking channel just as much as your hiking Border Rambler channel. Just subscribed, 👍🏻
Thanks mate, set up the bike channel in Covid times as a bit of fun and to keep it separate from my hiking channel with a few crossover vids. atb Dave
Nice ride Dave, cycling is just the right speed I reckon:)
I think your right Sandy , stop when you like and go at a pace you enjoy 🚲👍
Nice channel.
Nice and quiet.
Bonus of no Rapha, bearded software developers / architects / £9k Pinarellos or Felts.
Keep it up.
Subscribed 👍
Sorry none of that talk here lol , just an average bloke who likes cycling trips ,without racing from one point to the other 😂 steady away is my motto atb Dave 🚲👍🏻⛺️
You’ll like ‘Ride with Roy’ if you’re not already subscribed 👍
@@greigs9384 already subbed 👍
This route is on my ‘to do’ list. I’d be hoping to start at the Roman Bath House at Ravenglass. Apparently, the path around Sellafield is passable on foot. Look forward to part 2 👍
I would deffo recommend plenty of varied paths/roads and trails to follow along with all the route has to offer along the way. atb Dave 🚲👍
Brilliant mate 👍🏻🚴
Thanks for watching atb Dave 🚲👍
Thanks for the video. I think I will do this route soon with a few days of good weather forecast.
Thanks for watching , it is well signed but I did take a few wrong turns in Newcastle. Thankfully I had the route planned on my phone as a back up . Atb Dave
Hi there just found your channel, thoroughly enjoyed it
Thanks appreciate the comment atb Dave
Did well to get a dry day in Silloth.😂
To be fair it was a little drizzly when I arrived , so it didn’t fail 😂
Just watching them again Dave, got my train ticket booked and going to give it a go, is the route still out of action south of sellafield.
First time on the train with a bike too😮
Great stuff , just enjoy and hopefully the train journey is straightforward atb Dave 🚲👍
This brought back memories from our trip along the Hadrian route, nice to see all those familiar places again.
I doubt much will have changed , that big hill out of Greenhead is still there lol atb Dave 🚲👍
Looked a lovely route mate, lots of nice traffic free and of course the history, would love to do it someday, there’s something about coastal trips, looking forward to the inland video part 2⛺️🚲👍🏻
Thanks mate, yeah plenty of off road sections making it a breeze to cycle on. we will be coastal on the next one I hope 🚲⛺️👍
Lovely to see both the bit I missed and the start of what I did a few years ago - I travelled by train from home in Scotland to start from Aspatria station so I could relive some childhood memories of visits down to a friend in Silloth. (Glad to say I've since found the friend again who now lives in Carlisle). I loved this route, SO much to see along it that it shouldn't be rushed. I overnighted in B&Bs in Bowness, Haltwhistle and Ovingham. Perfect combination of cycling and sights.
I’m glad I’ve filled in a few bits and relived some of the areas for you. I did it over 3 days but the bloke who was on my train to Whitehaven was doing the whole lot in a day !
I prefer a more gentle pace where you can appreciate what is around you . tfw atb Dave 🚲👍
Have what a lovely route,so peaceful and great views, 👍
Thanks for watching atb Dave 🚲👍
This brought back memories from our trip along the Hadrian route, we started from Ravenglass and had to battle our way around Sellafield which was a challenge.
That’s reason I just settled for a Whitehaven start as it still isn’t sorted, it’s a lovely cycle route tho 🚲👍
I really enjoy your videos Dave, as a cycle commuter it's nice to dream about more interesting places to go! Lovely footage and background music interesting to see about the airfield at Silloth and the memorial about the Polish aircrew :( thanks very much .
Thanks for the lovely comment, I’m always planning where I can go for a trip next. I try to keep the videos simple but not have overpowering music , it’s a fine balance. atb Dave 🚲👍
We were up that way last Saturday Dave! Had our lunch on the prom in Maryport, then up to Allonby and Silloth, Skinburness and Abbeytown. Not on push bikes mind, we were in our MX5! Lovely day 👌
Mum and Dad used to take me up to Silloth to watch the motorcycle racing, do you remember that?
Great video, and a great route TFS cheers Alistair 👍
Thanks Alistair , it’s a lovely part of Cumbria . I used have grandparents in Silloth so spent a few summers there. I can’t mind the motorcycle racing tho tfw atb Dave 🚲👍
A good start Dave, nice to live on the route for some free camping! 👍😁🍺🍺
Cheers Snowy , I could have camped in the garden 😂😂 not atb Dave
A grand start to what looks like a very enjoyable ride, my fingers are crossed that all goes well and you do in fact have a good bike packing wee adventure. ATB Big Dave
Thanks mate , I made it home so that’s a good indication 😎 atb Dave ⛺️🚲👍
Cracking video Dave. Well done. Looking forward to the rest of the route 👍
Thanks a bit tougher on the next section with more in the way of hills 😂😂🚲⛺️👍
Great video Dave. Visited St Bees 2015 and walked the Coast2Coast. Love the north of England/Yorkshire. Cheers from New Zealand.
Great stuff , thanks for watching atb Dave 🚲👍
Great, did this route with my daughter a few years ago; east to west. Overnighting along the way on basic farmers camp fields and an interesting stopover pitched at Maryport Rugby Ground! We had good weather and no westerlies fortunately. A good one if introducing a young person to cycle touring (has stuck with her) and with a pick up at Ravenglass, a visit to the Safari Zoo afterwards.
Thanks Iain , yes it’s a great route to start off with. You deffo wouldn’t want a headwind on this route especially on the coastal sections 😂 atb Dave 🚲👍
Good video watching you from Ireland lovely scenery great cycling.
Thanks for watching atb Dave 🚲👍
good miles on day 1 dave🚴 no doubt the thought of a comfy bed spurred you on 😊 looking forward to day 3 on my home turf 👍
The next vid has day 2 and 3 together as I made bywell and my camp spot ⛺️👍 and the hills after day one 😂😂 plenty of footage on your patch Geordie
Good run Dave , better than the towpaths last time !
Yeah no shitty towpaths to slide along this time , thanks mate 🚲👍
Another great video, are they hope Rs4 hubs you have on?
Thanks mate , the rear hub only is a Hope RS4 hub 👍
@@davesolobiker5601 quality engineering, literally just over the hill from me!
Looking forwards to this myself this year at some point
It could be done easily over 2 days but I wasn’t in a rush , so more of a steady pace 🚲👍
What bike have you got use for this video...
It’s my old Cannondale Caadx, I resprayed over the winter to a more subtle colour.
Did you have to book your bike on the train, or can you just turn up?
No not with Northern rail, I just booked a ticket via there app and turned up , I was there early and was first on then another 3 or 4 bikes turned up. but they all fitted in no problem 🚲👍 atb Dave
Normally you don't need to book ur bike 🚲 on the train, it depends which App you use 👍👍
How did you get on with getting the bike on the train? I've had mixed results with Northen Rail and Trans Pennine.
Carl-Whitehaven 4 bikes no probs, and train back from newcastle I was the only bike onboard. I prefer to pre book like TP and you know you have a place .
Going out from Preston or Clitheroe I found easy enough but sometimes coming back from routes up your way to the Lakes or Highlands can be sketchy if you don't book or they change carriages on you.
@@marksadventures3889 yeah it can get a bit stressful at times , LNER on the east side are tricky as the bike spaces are designed for racing bike s with zero gear on 😂 , I will be using them possibly in July so looking forward to that… not lol
@@davesolobiker5601 I am getting practice miles in for some long rides. If I average of 30 on the flat or 12 on hills I should be okay no rush. I want to do some big rides, Holyhead to Hull and Carlisle to Penzance sounds fun. But I will start small Preston to Warrington.
Never had to book on any Northern Trains, it's just pot luck when you get on them. Trans Pennine I've not booked a bike on as of yet but when I was last one it said to book the day B4 but that's no good when Ur planning a trip.....
