About Life In Farmland: Our family strives to be as self-sufficient as we can be. We grow a lot of food in the garden, raise or hunt for our meat, cut and use firewood to heat our house in the cold Minnesota winters. We want to know where our food comes from, what goes into it. We strive to live a slower and sustainable lifestyle with family being our first priority. On this channel, you will find a lot of how-tos, shared experiences, recipes, and videos of things we are trying and learning more about.

In HS my boyfriend would come to my house and hand my mom fresh shot ducks, squirrels, rabbit whatever had crossed his early morning path. Then holler out “come on Mel we gotta date today”! LOL our date was wood cutting and splitting. He sold lots of wood in the summer to have car and dating money for the school year. Yes I grew up in the country 😀 Your wood cutting videos remind me of very good times. And yes we did go on real dates to the movies and dinky golf 😂

Charlie Smith No Charlie we did not marry. But we did remain very close friends until he passed two years ago. I have been married to my much better half for 40 years who never brought my mom anything he shot, but we did cut and split many many cords of wood over the years. 😊

I like your comment about getting out with the neighbors to get to know them. That's one thing that seems to have gone to the way side...we don't talk or interact with one another any more. Just think of all we could get done if we got out of our shells and helped each other out a little more. We used to have a place that we heated the house and shop with an outdoor boiler. It was ok...but we were going through between 25-30 cord per winter. Once my boiler burned out, I was burned out too. We switched to LP. I love to get out into the woods now and then to cut...It's because I want to and I don't have to.:) Great video.

I have always loved cutting wood. I am getting older and it is getting harder. My grandson helps a lot. I do most of the cutting and he does the lifting. I run the splitter and he does the lifting. There is a pattern here.

I don't cut wood these days but sure hauled, split and stacked a lot of it in my youth. Last week I spent an hour or do with an older friend hauling firewood from the back of a property to the front for campfires during a church festival. It was a good day.

Ahhh.....coffee, dogs and chickens at sunrise, my morning routine.
Love your videos, i am a bit jealous of the expansiveness of your property and access to wood to cut.
We are in the Appalachain mountains and unless you are getting wood from a flat area it’s serious work getting it from these hills and hollers.
Just got a LogOX 3 in 1 for Christmas and am beyond excited about the work it is gonna save my back!
The Logrite hookaroon ($65) is an excellent lightweight tool as well if you can’t get your hands on the one in your video. I like having a separate pick to move wood with as I’m bucking sections on the LogOX timber jack, plus i think the optional pickaroon is a little clunky and pricey for the LogOX.
Love the videos, keep up the good work.
It’s beautiful up there, my wife is from Wisconsin so I’ve been up that way a couple of times. The UP was a nice experience, felt like Canada cause everyone says ‘Eh’. 😂

Splitting firewood seems to be a never ending process for me. That and I'm falling trees to mill out wood and the tops are getting split into firewood. On a different note, someone had told me that most oak trees that are bigger than a foot in diameter are hollow in the middle, rotted out. Have you found a lot of rotted out oaks?
