      New studio looks sharp. I think you nailed it with the wheel, very gamey looking but that being said it seems to have a lot to offer. In that last pic of it on the rig it reminds me a lot of the Logitech Pro. Nice to see another company creating wheels though.

    I have their Velocity One (yoke for flightsims) and it's great. The only issue I have with it is that the colors of the buttons make it look like something from Fisher Price. And that was my first reaction too when I saw this wheel announced - it just looks so toyish.

      If this has a quick release though, that won't be an issue. Especially an NRG style one like the Moza. PC sim equipment will work on this wheelbase just fine. You could very easily swap a Moza KS wheel or Simagic GT1 wheel on there without issue.
      It just wouldn't be Xbox compatible of course.

  • @JimmyNuisance
    @JimmyNuisance 4 місяці тому +1

    Direct Drive is such a blessing for racing wheels. The ease of manufacturing one of these wheels VS making a gear or belt driven wheel is insane. The whole motor comes from the factory all ready to go, Turtle Beach just has them delivered, slap them into a box, put a wheel on the shaft and that's that. No gear boxes, no belts.. They don't need to test them much for wear and tear as the motors are the only moving parts, and the factory has done all that testing already. R&D on a wheel like this is minimal.
    The result is that we're getting G29 priced wheels that are better than the best gear and belt driven wheels. You can pay 300 for a direct drive wheel that will FAR surpass the performance of the T-GT2 or the best belt driven Fanatec wheels that cost 2x that. People getting into sim racing today are so lucky. They're just getting immense quality for so little money.
    I paid way more than the cost of this wheel for my T-GT2, and it's definitely not as good as this wheel (or any DD wheel for that matter).

  • @kshay1394
    @kshay1394 4 місяці тому +2

    Great for some, but my concern would be if one thing breaks (eg. steering wheel), then the whole system is out. Especially if you can't swap out a part for another. It is being sold only as a bundle. I am a first-timer owner/operator of Fanatec's GT DD Pro bundle. And soon as i drove that, I knew I loved it, and I started upgrading. The difference is i have no regrets. I think if someone got this and didn't have a kid or sibling to gift it to, then they might feel they should've gone big in the first place. Because if you love sim racing, you'll definitely want the best for your dollar. Also, there's the resale factor. Very insightful video. 🧡🙏🏼

    I checked the pre order page to see if there was any more info over and above the marketing page... my hunch was absolutely right! It looks like the wheel rim is indeed detachable, as they specify the wheelbase and "racing wheel module" as they call it... being separate entities in the packaging. there is also mention of a tuning companion app for pc, xbox and mobile capable of updating firmware and downloading "future expansion content" which, the mention of mobile i found rather interesting. pedals attach to the wheelbase according to the specs section, though im sure people can and will find ways to separate them from the wheelbase, as they connect via usb-c. overall there was enough details on the pre order page to get me curious for its release, and inevitable youtube coverage.

      I wouldn't be so sure of that. Logitech's direct drive wheel is nearly a grand for just the wheelbase, wheel and no pedals. OK this wheel doesn't have quite the same torque but coming with a load cell pedal set is a game changer. They're literally the only company bundling load cells with a budget friendly wheel.

    I'd be weary of this brand. Their flight sim products are dressed up low end hardware with all the bells and whistles to look good on a store page, but the basics like the gimbals of their flight sticks are very bad design, like the ones you get on a 20$ stick. I'd call them "fake high end" hardware, you can get significantly higher quality stuff for the same money, it just doesn't look as flashy and isn't sold at major retailers so most people are not aware how a stick at that price range should feel and the build quality that should be expected.
    Now of course I didn't get my hands on this one yet, but it looks to follow the same formula. Get in people with shiny things like button box and a screen. I would not buy it unless you get to try it and products from the same category from other brands first!

      Sony themselves are mostly to blame for that though. They have been making it increasingly difficult for 3rd party peripherals to get licensed for use on PlayStation and stopping the use of unlicensed kit. Microsoft have always been far more generous when it comes to this. That and the fact that the xbox OS has a lot of commonality with windows making it far easier to get things to work on both xbox and PC.

    Those markings in the shaft may also point to a lack of free wheeling capability. Its probably going to be something similar to the Logitech Pro, where the wheel rotation is physically limited in lock to lock turns. I wouldn't be surprised if the motor itself is sourced from the same manufacturer. I like the addition of the button box rather than a sequential shifter.

    Some astute observations, RC.
    If reddit/simracing is to be believed, certain self-proclaimed gaming industry insiders have claimed the DD otuput is somewhere around the 9 ~ 10 Nm mark.
    Thus around Logitech DD Pro and Thrustmaster T818 , Moza R9 ~ R12 levels.
    If true, this bundle would heavily undercut Logitech for at least console compatibility.
    It does look like the Turtle Beach design staff has been looking a lot at the Logitech DD Pro when designing this system.
    I wonder if the pedals (and controller!) can be completely separated from the base, as per de G Pro pedals. The loadcell might be in de 60 ~ 80 kg range. At least I would be surprised if it's well beyond that.
    I'm looking forward to reviews to see if the Fischerprice-look and TB headphone-quality also carries over with in-hand experiences, or not.
    At the very least, it seems like an interesting proposition judging by pictures alone.

    Ive had a few turtle beach products over the years, x 12 headset for 360 still works, elite 800x headset for xbox one was properly expensive and were absolute crap, id be very wary of this, there are plenty of quality dd wheels on the market and this one looks a toy but we will see
    P.s, still waiting for Thrustmaster to pull their finger out and release a console compatible dd wheel, cant see what the hold up is

    If the build quality of this is good, then this will be a "killer app" of a device that completely shakes up the market. A lot of it says "me too" to me thought, like they see dollar signs in the sim racing industry and just want their piece of the pie.
    But based on the components of the bundle, they've clearly, at the very least, done a lot of market research to figure out what people want as a starter bundle.

    Since xbox is simply irrelevant when it comes to sim racing, a ps5 support would make more sense, because of GT7. Seems like a decent entry level option though

    • @zeckor.
      @zeckor. 3 місяці тому

      That’s just selfish thinking. Myself and a lot of people I know own Xboxes and are indeed car enthusiasts who would like a decent sim racing experience before getting PCs. PS already has a decent range of good budget options since literally every “budget console option” is a PS licensed wheel or a PXN V10. (Also PS has GT7.) TB is actually smart for getting a direct drive wheel into the Xbox market to start because of the amount of ACC players. They’ll probably make a ps version down the road.

    Perfect for a 9 yo. that will use it for the 2 weeks it works then moves on to the next toy. It may last that long...As far as for the sim racer we should love this..Think of what this might mean for prices of higher quality wheels. This shows what is really possible for the lower price points..
    oval rim? Is there an actual oval rim or did u mean round?

    I'd say 3nm as a 5.5 nm Moza wouldn't fit in those dimensions IMO and the new R3 is 3ish nm and I'd say going to compete with the extras. Buy a R5 and the LC SR-P pedals to replace the SR-P lite for the around the same price for a much better and extensive ecosystem. And if for XBOX buy the R3 and upgrade as the original bundle will be much less.

    I have their flight stick. I have faith this will be worth the money. This is the exact price point Logitechs ridiculous $1400 wheel should have been aimed at. Their headsets back when I had them were cheap and terrible. The flight sim peripherals however tell me that they have enthusiasts that want to serve a non hardcore audience in the pricerange gap that no other company is touching right now. This is very potentially a preorder for me.

    • @ViperJon
      @ViperJon 4 місяці тому

      I have the Logi Pro and it was less than $1200.00 delivered 2nd day air. It's very solid, 11NM and a two year warranty. Logitech wheels have always been rock solid, the G920 and G923 can take a beating. You get what you pay for. This is not even 7NM and if Turtle Beach's history is any indication it will look okay but be cheaply made.

    More competition is good but it looks like something Kellogg's would have as a cereal box pack in toy. A very very big cereal box but nonetheless. Also that D shaped rim is so pronounced I'd expect Count von Count from Sesame Street to be holding it up to teach us D is the letter of the day.

    It'll be like max 2-3 Nm cheap and nasty like all Turtle Beach products, I wouldn't go near it. All future wheels will be DD as it's simply more efficient, why they haven't become the standard until now mystifies me; it's technology which was actually theorised centuries before electricity was even discovered and has been commercially available for decades.

    It looks too boy racerish? Why? If this is targeted at entry level serious gaming with direct drive They could have easily toned down the look and have it look more professional without any additional cost vs whats shown here. The features are interesting, the presentation and the big unknown on quality is what needs to be sorted.
