I think the best feature on this is the touch screen on the throttle. You can use a Loupe deck for this. But it's kind of nice to have this specialized to a flight sim. Of course, it doesn't seem to be working at the moment. I'm sure it's a driver issue. But they should have worked this out before shipping. After all it's just sending out standard keyboard commands. Virpil is of course a lot more expensive and specialized more toward combat flight sims like DCS world. But WinWing is quite good too and a bit less expensive in this arena.

I've had one for a few weeks now (pre-ordered). While the hardware is really nice, TB and Asobo need to release full MSFS compatibility and profiles before I'd recommend a purchase. I'm actually debating on returning mine and getting a different HOTAS brand. Even though I've spent a huge amount of time customizing mine for MSFS, I fear that there are issues that might not be overcome. Having said that, thanks for the review!
My rating for it so far is an 'A' for hardware (at least on my example) and a 'D-' on software support.

How would you rate the feel and sturdiness of this compared to the T16000M, is this actually better? I know it’s still a gimbal system which makes it more prone to wear and tear, I’m just wondering if they came up with a higher quality system or if this will inevitably start getting ghost inputs after a couple of years.

I've set mine up using Lorbys Axis and Ohs (it's paid software, about $30 Aus) Takes some time but you can set it up to do anything, you just have to download the scripts for the aircraft you are using. I also set up a keyboard (because the touch pad is hard coded to keyboard buttons) and with Axhis and Ohs I've programmed the touch pad to turn batteries on and taxi light etc. You can also use Lorbys to assign multiple scripts to the one key, so if you wanted multiple actions after pressing Q on the keyboard (or the hard coded Q on the touchpad) you can. For example you can turn on all batteries and external power at the same time

I appreciate the videos you produce about new products.
Your definition of smooth movement is much different than mine. Just watching you move the stick at the beginning of the video, it looked very stiff and clunky. I sent back the last Turtle Beach velocity flight stick they released because of that. It makes it nearly impossible to fly helicopters with movements like that.
I'll stick with my Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X. It has an adjustable tension nob for the stick and has a very smooth and fluid movement (single fingertip stick movement) and is less expensive.

    • @SimHangerFS

Hi Mark, Thanks again for the thorough review and demonstrations with your impressions. Can you write a bit more about the "haptics" you called out (at about 4 min in) on the throttle and I believe I heard you also mention there are some type of haptics involved in the stick portion of this HOTAS also but have not been able to find that mention... so maybe I'm conflating....

    • @SimHangerFS

You can enable a haptic (vibration) on both units. Joystick for moving out side a designated range and throttle for position along main axis etc.

Nice review. I have a Warthog setup which I'm leaving alone but on another rig I have the X52 pro and like playing star citizen on that one. Because of a modifier issue with star Citizen (and also no good curser input button for DCS) I'm really interested in the extra buttons. With the new additions to salvage functions and tractor beam in star citizen I could put them to good use and have everything mapped to the HOTAS. If there was one at a store near by I'd probably go down and get it. One question is do you have to run a software program to use it? Less programs running in the background the better.

Mark, I have been watching your reviews and instructional videos for the past 2 years and have following your suggestions and setups most of the time. I recently purchased the VelocityOne Flightdeck and followed along with some of the setup. On the throttle configurations I have run into issues (probably self induced) but when setting up Throttle Axis in MSFS, I get warnings, for example Throttle 1 Axis, MSFS reports back as Joystick Button 35 (Warning: selected button input is not recommended for this action), this also happens on Throttle 2 Axis and reports as 38.
Am I missing something in setup.

I haven't messed with the Super Hornet in MSFS for awhile as I've been in DCS. It was quite jarring to see the Super Hornet instrument panel looking so close yet different to the legacy Hornet. Just my thoughts. Do you use DCS? If so, how did the touch screen fair on that? Also in DCS you can never have too many buttons.

Another excellent hardware review, and particularly welcome here as I contemplate replacing my Saitek X-52Pro. The Thrustmaster Warthog is the leading contender, but I must say all the bells and whistles on this Velocity One makes it very tempting. The touchscreen is nice, but I also have a Loupedeck which is serving me very well at the moment. What is really going to decide me is precision and durability - and I get the feeling the Warthog has the edge. Am I right ?

  • @Rollin3D

The more of these that get out there in peoples hands, the user reviews are going to tank. I've had 3 of them now since release, and the quality control for $400 is abysmal. All of the throttle units had backlights burn out within a week. All the ball gimbals on the sticks felt completely different on all 3 sticks. One was super gritty and would stick, one was so loose in the center it would constantly pitch up until deadzone was added, and the other stick was somewhere in the middle. One hardware bug that seems to have made it into every stick, is the pinky button on the back of the stick will randomly activate the brake lever button. Go into your hardware test for the stick, and rapidly press that button on the back of the grip, you'll see it randomly lighting up the pinky switch button. Hopefully they get the quality control issues worked out (won't hold my breath), but currently, no way I would recommend anyone to purchase this thing for $400. There are way better and less expensive options out there.

If its like their Turtle Beach VelocityOne, the throttle axis wouldnt stay in calibration. It would “lose” its position and would have to be placed in the 0% position and then back into its desired position. Maybe they used different technology on this one.

  • @techstepman

the biggest problem with this product for me is that it doesnt look like it is compatible with my seat-cockpit rig. I dont use screws and i just use tie-ups/tire-ups to keep my hardware in place on my rig. I cant do that with this set cause it doesnt have holes on each corner. Thats a big con for me. They got most other stuff right but this (not being compatible with current seat-cockpit rigs, not having holes on the edges) probably the reason why it wont do well on the market. The panel also needs to become fully configurable so that we can put there whatever we want and not be limited to just the default settings. Overall this is a great piece of hardware and will wake up the other brands to start making modern and better hotas.

I got one of these rather cheap. Beware of the mounting screws that come with this, they are way too long (at least for my mounts) and when screwed in tight, the throttle is blocked..😂 Also, all of the one I have seen had some build quality issues (especially that weird trackpad fire button). When programming these for ED, you have to be careful when assigning buttons, they can be a bit sticky resulting in a button hold rather than a press (gear up/down is the worst). The biggest issue will be the profile support. If no one buys these, they remain niche and we wont see many game profiles. I think TB just overdid themselves a bit. Sometimes less is more.
