I don't understand how they can be literally £10000, when there is so little materials and labour.
I think these should be compared to electric cargo bikes. Probably a good match in size, cost and speed... if not in purpose.

The Scooterpac looks like something off a kids cartoon designed by a 2 year old. I left this video playing and went and made a cuppa and they were still not past the line.
A better race would be Ami vs Biro vs Chang Li (4.5 kw)
There are so many cars to choose from, they could do several more of these videos. The Silence S04, the new Peel, and more than a dozen different Chinese micro EVs.

I can't understand the price of the plastic Ami? The Chinese are making very basic but acceptable mini EVs for around $4k - $6k.... Why are we paying more than double? To be honest any sensible person could buy a decent second hand EV for less.
+10 years of inflation created by the market obsession (and financing) of profitable crossovers and SUVs brought us to this point.
I find it extra disappointing that the Ami doesn't compete well against the 12 year old Renault Twizy of which has been neglected of any real upgrades
@toyotaprius79 If you follow this back, I would not be surprised if it all links back to VW and dieselgate. As immediately after they removed discounts, removed base model cars and started to push SUVs that have more profit margins. Then other manufacturers copied. Now we are in an overpriced SUV hell. Profits not enough for shareholders... Its OK... just raise the car prices further!!

It depresses me that STILL nobody's taken all the good points, left out the bad points, and created a lightweight 2-seater EV with a 100 mile range, 40mph top speed, and a price tag under £4,000.
I'm sure it can be done if the will's there, but nobody gives a toss about cheap, simple, affordable transport for the masses. It's all about tech-bloated whizzy toys for rich boys.
I'm not interested in a second-hand ordinary car. I know they're so cheap now that dealers can't even give the damn things away, and I understand why: nobody needs [not wants, NEEDS!] the useless luxury, the idiotic performance, the weight, the complexity, or the nasty insurance, tax and depreciation burden that goes with today's cars.
A lot of people want something small and light and SIMPLE.
I often wonder what Clive Sinclair would have made of his C-5 idea forty years on if he were still around and given access to today's motors, batteries and electronics. Something tacky with a roof and doors, maybe. Tacky, but desirable. Pedal-assist ought not to be necessary, now.
I know that not everybody wants a tiny, cheap, flimsy, slow vehicle. Many are horrified at the prospect of driving anything that weighs less than 3 tons and which can't hit 60mph in under 3 seconds. But that's fine. Nobody's forcing them to buy something they don't want. Pay your money and enjoy yourselves. But it's infuriating that car manufacturers won't give the rest of us a choice. I need (not want!) something basic.
My last car was a Mark 2 Nissan Micra. I-litre petrol engine, all analogue. It got the job done.
What do I, a mere girlie-girl know about cars? Well, despite outward appearances, I'm a petrolhead. Yep. I used to be a rally driver [only amateur] back in the Group-B era. I've fallen off Dalby and Kielder and Grizedale in the snow at midnight; I've competed once in Finland, and completed the East African Safari twice. I love cars and driving.
But I don't want a car, now. I'm skint. I want cheap personal transport.
These days I just ride an old bike. It's 15+ years old, cost me £130 new, and could be replaced today, like-for-like, for... exactly the same £130.
That's what I call affordable transport.
But... I have to cover 70 miles a week in cold, wet, windy, hilly West Yorkshire, and have done for more than a decade. That's a lot of miles, and I hate cycling. It's horrible and dangerous, but compared to the rip-off Citroën Ami or these other dodgy mobility 'solutions' it's still an incredibly cheap and efficient way to get around.
But it's miserable and risky and desperately unsafe. Car drivers HATE cyclists (Jeremy Clarkson comes from round here...) Safety-wise, my bum is my rear crumple zone and my comedy-sized bosom is the closest thing I've got to airbags.
Come on, somebody: build me an affordable 40mph micro-EV to get me out of the wind and rain. None of the vehicles featured here even come close to making financial or practical sense.
