The former Chevrolet Volt (discontinued in 2019) has an 18.4 kWhr liquid-cooled battery that manages 50 to 60 miles of EV range. When the battery is depleted, the vehicle seamlessly switches over into hybrid mode averaging around 45 mpg with its 1.5 liter engine. My wife's 2018 Volt needs regular gasoline about once every three months and she is averaging over 200 mpg with her daily 50 mile commute. No range anxiety at all with this vehicle and performance (0-60 mph in under 8 seconds) that would embarrass any of these "futuristic" mini-EV's. BTW, the thermal management of the Volt's battery is amazing with no loss of range in almost 4 years of useage.
Wow. That is fantastic! Thanks for the info on the Chevy Volt. It is a bummer that they discontinued it, but Chevy has a lot of EV aspirations for the future. We do have full-sized EV reviews on our channel if you ever want to check them out. All the best.

EV car makers should also give us decent wheels and tyres for Electric propulsion. I am shopping around for the best tyres for my smart ED. Because the original tyres do not have good enough grip for the vehicle.
What they need to do is make pods with wheels that are more inboard, and the vehicles being able to magnetically attach to each other so they can move together as a sort of divided train. That would improve safety and energy expenditure....create a road train for instance. But most of all, there would be huge space savings if the pods didn't need spacing gaps and reaction time to slow down. You could have a 2-across train and each pod could separate when it reached its destination (and so could drive down a center lane on a 3-lane one-way street in big cities)

Yeah. These are ugly as sin and pretty useless in suburban Texas because of their paltry range. Also, out here if you can afford to live in a densely packed urban area you can afford an actual car or motorcycle.
If EVs are really about lowering emissions, these types of vehicles would be what it would naturally come to. If we are going to make electric cars, making them several hundred HP multiple ton cars is not exactly the best option. In a "dream world" (depends on who you ask) you would use small EVs for urban areas or local transport and long distances would be public transport (I know, even in the middle of europe there are many places without public transport). Also one might have to mention that all EVs in the world are useless if they are charged by fossil fuel power plants, you are basically just moving the emission to another place to make yourself feel better, losing efficiency on the way. I think battery technology needs to be greatly improved before a complete change to renewable energies and electric cars can be made, but over here in Germany they seem to be so focused on rushing the change that they don't really seem to have a plan on how to do it.
what happens if the cart takes someone in the wrong way and there are injuries or deaths. My GPS is so dumb it asks me to go through places I can't go. That Navigation for the AI better be on point.
Those are cute cars and affordable but here in the US they need to be little bigger and faster especially when driving here on highway and turnpike speed limit is 65 .
Maybe not possible in the US to the same extent, but in Europe, I've set my GPS for shortest route as there most places are plenty country roads, I usually drive 10-15% shorter and though I drive slower and need to stop at lights, with no traffic it takes only 25% longer. If the highway is busy, I beat the clock easily. Nice thing is that I can average 100Wh/km, less than half of what a Tesla uses on the highway. I did a test with a friend that just got a model 3: He used 25kWh to drive 122 km on the highway going 130+ km/h or 80+ mph. Me on the back roads used 9.5 KWh and travelled only 107 km. I did arrive half an hour later, but just a single holdup on the highway and we would have arrived together. I paid $3.67 to get there he spent $9.62. which is more than it would cost in gasoline had he not had a flatrate subscription. Yes charging is expensive in Europe.
One thing that sickens me is the fact that small companies with people of vision developed these cars, and now the big manufacturers are putting out small channels like this as veiled advertising. These large companies put nothing into the development of mini vehicles and should not be allowed to just take over. People it is time to remember the smaller manufacturers that put their hearts and souls into developing less polluting ways of transportation and remember to buy from them. Don't just drop by a large car lot and purchase from a brand name that risked nothing, but just sat there waiting to see of there was enough of a market to come in and take over. Lets be loyal to the smaller manufacturer that started this instead of rewarding opportunists who would never have helped the environment themselves, but now there is a buck here they are. Lets reward these often local visionaries by buying your new electric car or truck from them instead. ✌🙂❤😎
I wonder what happened to the concept EV that I saw about 9 years ago. Its top speed at that time was only 30 mph, but it also had the ability to become a road train by connecting to other vehicles of its kind. By becoming a road train it could reach highway speeds and save on battery life.

I think battery technology needs to be greatly improved before a complete change to renewable energies and electric cars can be made, but over here in Germany they seem to be so focused on rushing the change that they don't really seem to have a plan on how to do it.
the sound effect on this video is terrible - otherwise great video!
Thanks! And sorry about the sound effect.
Loved it!!
Thanks!
what happens if the cart takes someone in the wrong way and there are injuries or deaths. My GPS is so dumb it asks me to go through places I can't go. That Navigation for the AI better be on point.
Good point.
Those are cute cars and affordable but here in the US they need to be little bigger and faster especially when driving here on highway and turnpike speed limit is 65 .
True that. They may also be good for people who live in the cities and do not get on the highway much.
Bring them to Australia please.
Hehe. We'll see what we can do ;)
Cool
Very cool. Thanks!
uNITI IS REALLY COOL... will it be sold in america?
I don't think as of yet. But, hopefully soon
Hmm! Thinking Now Tazzari Zero ,Wuling, Zacua,Or New Renault z or just Bikecar
The Wuling and Tazzari are great.
Wuling MiniEV is the best electric car
That is one of the best for sure. The Citreon Ami also has great potential.
Ami makes you smile when ever see it.
The Chinese car is the best ..
if there a fusion between Ami and chinese ev car ot would the best ever
Good point. The Ami and the Wuling together would be great.
The audi urban looks like what I would design for a ev, just makes sense to me.
Agreed. I wish they'd go to production with the Audi Urban.
May dream car
The Citroen Ami doors being manufactured symmetrically the same is efficiency genius.
Any one know where I can get this car and how much?
Which one?
is the Ami for sale in America?
Not as of yet.
I like your 2 seaters cars
Us too.
Agreed. Please buy local and from small manufacturers wherever possible. The dollars/euros/yen circulate within your community a lot more.
I wonder what happened to the concept EV that I saw about 9 years ago. Its top speed at that time was only 30 mph, but it also had the ability to become a road train by connecting to other vehicles of its kind. By becoming a road train it could reach highway speeds and save on battery life.
Woah. I definitely want to hear more about that vehicle.
@@Electric-Rideables I forgot who was intending to produce it, and the phone that had a link to their site was crushed beyond use.
The woorest is Twizy and Ami...the prices of these cars in France it's triple with the same price you can buy BMW
Thanks for sharing.
Why not build microcars for crowded metropolitan areas with emphasis to max 20-30 miles of max speed but longer range and easier charging?
Good point. Maybe these mini EV manufacturers will get on this.
