You can choose between 23" or 25" scale, fretted or fretless, and polymer strings (which give you a sound like an upright bass) or the Silverbacks (which are like a more traditional bass string). My wife just got me one of these for Christmas, and all I can say is WOW!! I have been playing for 40 years, and this thing is amazing. It sounds awesome in my studio. If you don't have one, GET ONE!!!
What kinda set up did you get for it? Like strings and size? Im nervous about getting comfy on a short scale and then being bad at regular sized necks.
@@skaterdude7277 you'll be fine I switch between this M-Bass to my hofner to my 42" scale Upright double Bass & then to my full scale Thunderbird bass all the time and it never affected me in any way, the trick is I think, is to switch between them a lot don't just stick with one for a long time switch it up a lot. Even though ever since I got this bass I've been playing this one way more than any instrument I got, it's so fun to play and sounds so unique and dirty I love it!
I want one!🎸🎼👍
If it wasnt 400 dollars I'd consider it but for 400 you have a lot of better options.

Took "noodling on a bass" on a whole new level
Loool
Why
I didn't developed scoliosis over the last seven years because of my acoustic bass, just to see this. I want one, now.
If i played this would girls like me?
I've never seen any evidence that says they wouldn't.
It definitely will improve your right hand fingering action...
Well, they might know you exist.
Jeff Smith only if you can play wonderwall
most definitely.
Huh, my guitar teacher had another teacher drop one of these off during class last week and i didnt recognize the brand from the headstock, but it sounded amazing and shockingly more full than the proper full sized acoustic bass we had and the action was perfect and now, here it is, in my reccomended feed. Great bass Gold Tone.
It showed up in your recomended feed cos the interent is watching and listening to us at all times. But then you probably know that don't you? Peace
and how much exactly did this acoustic bass with about 1/2 the available notes cost you?
Tetra Digm A: you mustve not read it. The school bought it. Not me.
B: Its a shortscale. But it has 20 available frets. Thats only 16 notes less than my full 24 fret electric yamaha.
C: Believe me. Its worth it. A handmade bass that has beautiful tone and easy handling/portability without compensating volume, not to mention its electric acoustic, is worth the money. If i could record id make a demo and send it to these folks just because of how amazing this bass is. I can play stuff from the gorillaz to tool to metallica to the killers to weezer on this thing. Its a beautiful and amazing machine.
thats actually only 4 notes less, the notes of the highest 4 frets on the E,A, and D string occur a string up 5 frets lower.
Lucas Martin 4 frets missing on each 4 strings 4*4=16 notes less
Wow, Take A Walk On The Wild Side sounded PERFECT!
What I love about this video is that Nathan went straight into it. Like when he started talking he told us who he was and what he does. Then immediately telling us about the microbass. No bullshit sales pitches and no wasting any time. This video overall is just great. And because of that alone I would buy this microbass.
Easy. Don't present us your mum or ur gf buddy, or i would buy it too.
Yea but you didn’t
It's like a slightly bigger U-Bass. The U-Bass has 4 less frets, but it truly is tiny. The Mico bass probably sounds a little better unplugged being guitar sized. Both instruments use the same kind of strings so they sound similar.
@Jo P I disagree, it sounds pretty good for what it is. If you're comparing it to an E bass or an upright bass, then yeah, but you're comparing two different instruments that have similar but different uses in a rather unfair way. Beds are certainly a lot more comfortable than sleeping bags, but no one would want to carry around a full bed for a hike just because it's more comfortable. The acoustic body on the uke bass is for practice not performance, you can hear it fine in most situations, and it even holds up well in quiet jam sessions. When plugged in, it sounds very good, and the quality of its playability for the money when compared to a full size bass guitar it is superior. I own a comparably priced full size acoustic bass guitar, it does sound amazing compared to the U Bass, however it's only marginally louder. Anything I can play on an e Bass I can play on my U Bass with ease, but that is not the case with the full-size acoustic Bass. The internal electronics and the quality of wood on my U Bass are much higher since there's less material and labor needed for the same price.
@Jo P Not from what I've seen online. I mean yeah, you can buy an acoustic bass for $100, and it may sound fine acoustically, but it's playability will be shotty at best. Something in that price range, if it has internal pickups at all would be pretty shity sounding. I've done a good amount of research on these basses, it seems like $300 for a full size acoustic bass guitar is about what you'd expect for something of reasonable quality. A good quality acoustic bass guitar costs a little over a grand. So, to carry on with my analogy, for $100 you'd get an awesome sleeping bag, but for that same money, you could buy a cheap uncomfortable mattress. Btw, $100 is a lot for a sleeping bag, but $300 is not much for an instrument.
@Jo P They both average at around $260. So, I'm not sure what you're suggesting costs twice as much.
You should send one of those to davie504
Thats actually a great idea.
very impressive but... oh wait
impressive, but can you send yourself to him?
Yes
But he has a uke bass already it sounds very similar
The polymer strings are something that I didn’t think I’d like. They are remarkably easy to get used to and do impart an upright bass tonality. The nickel wrapped nylon strings are a good deal too. They impart a similar tone to any of the short scale electric bass guitars out there. This is a sold little acoustic bass, especially for the money.
So, reading the comments, the song's are:
1.- 0:00 to 0:12 // Lou Reed - Walk On The Wild Side
2.- 0:12 to 0:22 // Unknown
3.- 0:46 to 0:59 // The Beatles - Taxman
4.- 2:03 to 2:17 // Dr Dre - Nuthin But A G Thang
5.- 2:46 to 2:56 // Thundercat - A Fan's Mail (Tron Song Suite II)
6.- 2:56 to 3:16 // Grover Washington Jr - Just the two of us
Thank you!
The second song was “This Love” by Maroon 5.
Just a clarification: Ain't Nuthin But A G Thang IS NOT A SONG BY DR. DRE. Dr. Dre simply sampled the song "I Want'a Do Something Freaky To You" by Leon Haywood.
@@SpectorEuro4 This is true but most people will recognize it by the Dre song anyway.
@@ccaa7674 True. But the Dr. Dre is known as being quite the fraudulent guy. All you have to do is watch the Straight Outta Compton movie to see that.
Wish there was a 30 inch jazz bass style, and can't think of a better company than Gold Tone to found the way to do it
We'll definitely consider it.

I didn’t expect Taxman to sound so good on an acoustic bass. Gold Tone is truly magical.
Oh how I wish I had strings like that, they sound friggin amazing
It's basically a Baritone-Ukulele-Bass-Guitar.
always loved the tone of these micro bass w/nylon strings, has that fret less tone, nice and warm
do you make them left handed?
We do have a left-handed model!
Gold Tone this is wonderful news!!!!!!!!! I'm super excited about this.
My left-handed friend received his last week and loves it.
What's up with you lefties? Just become right handed and stop making everything so difficult.

That groove played at 0:46 sounded like something in an original Spyro game.
It sounds like The Jam - Start! to me
Wow, your not just a luthier, you have magic bass fingers too. Listen to your sound man. Amazing.
I want one just because you played licks from The JAM.
3 years later I came here to leave the same comment only to find out I'd already left it.
I've been watching for roughly 30 seconds before I realize I'm watching a commercial ad.
They should also have another micro bass that’s tuned either BEAD, or ADGC, but lower.

An acoustic electric bass. Pretty boss. If he would have played the Seinfeld theme, that would've taken the cake. L.m.a.o.
When the bass guitar and acoustic guitar had a kid together.
Very nice, how about a demo with the silver strings? I'd really like to here how different they sound.
How long do you need to put your strings in water to get them like that?
ernest_hemingway666 put 4-6 quart water in pot. Put 1/4 cup salt in. When boiling, place strings in for 3-5 minutes.
Gloo Boot that’s only for box strings if you whip up a batch of fresh strings they reach al dente in less than 30 seconds
Would be interested to hear it played with a pick
Taxman?
Yes, Sir!

Welcome to the Low Zone Stay out of treble.
Sir, could you tap with the left hand only? Bcoz, my right hand is busy playing the keyboard. Or, I can use a pick ( right hand thumb) for the the Micro Bass and still be able to play keyboard with the right four fingers. Its going to be a challenge for a one-man band. tnx EdA
Is that the 23" or the 25" in the demo video?
it sounds great
I always loved uke basses because of the upright sound on the go, but because of the tiny size they're a bit hard to play. This looks a bit bigger, easier to play, and sounds exactly like a uke bass. I love it!
It is. We also have the 25" scale, which is similar to a Stratocaster, so it's even easier to play!
Wow, somehow i fell in love with this, even tho i'm a begginer, in guitar. If i only had $500 to buy it 😞👊
its gonna be slap city if i get my hands on one of these
They should also make the 2 5 string versions both acoustic-electric and solid body electric. Are these basses good for drop tunings?
Dear Santa...
Sounds good but where in the heck do find those polymer strings?
If you close your eyes his voice is super similar to Kurt Cobains...
the strings make it pop
Would have been nice to hear it acoustically
Then what is the point of having an acoustic bass? Might as well get a short scale regular bass if you have to plug it in anyway, no?
I agree. Why have an acoustic bass that you can't hear acoustically.
MomoTheBellyDancer
They sell a solid body with the same strings.
Tom Lauria
You would feel the vibrations. That's why uprights are so cool...
it sounds like utter shit thats why
will just putting those strings on my acoustic bass make it sound more like an upright bass?

I would love to see a 5-string version of these things!!! :-)
Nothing solid yet, but we have been playing around with that idea
I had thyroid cancer and lost my high range so I use baritone guitars tuned to a standard with 5 string basses. I have a Taylor acoustic bass but that thing is for e tuning :-( . How about a BARITONE 4 string bass?
Yes PLEASE. I love the 5 string and one in this form factor would be amazing.
I did not see a price for this on the site so how much do they cost.
Was that Tron Song by Thundercat at the end????
Sounds like it! I’m happy you recognized it.
This is an elaborate version of playing a rubber band as an instrument.
Damn. Love its design
Lovely sound!

So, dou you suggest it for someone who wants to learn bass and wants his first bass to be acoustic?

It's Taxman by the Beatles.

Taxman - The Beatles
What's the first song? I feel like it's sigur but idk
Unrelated to the video's topic, but I just wanted to say I love your Kurt Vile t-shirt!
We're big fans of Kurt, and since we try to go see him play every chance we get!
But can you slap and pop on it ??? Doesn't look like it would handle slap bass.
I think he slapped it a couple times in the video, it should be okay. I think the nickle wound strings might give a bit more punch to the sound.
I wish I could hear what the nylon-core strings sound like. The rubber strings feel strange to me
Nylon strings are more suited for high notes and pitches. It wouldn't make sense to put them on a bass unless you are davie504
so.... it´s a bigger ukulele bass?
Played one the other day. Loved it. Question: have you considered making those polymer strings for a standard electric bass?
They wouldn't work unless you have a piezo pickup
Also I believe it’s not possible on the longer scale.

Standard Stratocaster scale length is 25.5”, so not the same as your 25” bass.
nnamhor you sound like a guitar player! 25=25.5= ballpark=close enough (like most bass-related things) lol
Green Meany guitar player first, bass player second. But as someone who builds his own guitars and basses, being off a half inch on scale length can render a bass or guitar unplayable.
Well considering he said "25, like a Fender", I don't see why one would have to be so pedantic as to point out 25.5, as 25" isn't as common as 24.75 or 25.5. Fenders don't even come in 25" so there's literally no reason to say more
wokeupinapanic Video made a statement of fact that was incorrect and I corrected it in a comment shorter than your criticism of whether or not someone should correct such an incorrect statement. If you have a different threshold for criticism or thought he honestly misspoke and didn’t need correction, it’s you’re opinion. Move on.
>sigh
Really really love this one! Came across it without any knowledge or anything, totally random - as if it was destiny. And what a great path if so… The sound is slick. Just the low i’ve been searching for (without going upright). Totally in love, I almost use my guitar as a second fiddle (originally a guitarist), hah!! Brought real enjoyment, no doubt. The only thing is - this newfound joy has me playing so much my fingers hurt from the friction of the strings. Do you have any tips to reduce this? How different is the sound with the steel-coating (any demos)?
Again, so so happy it found me, and that I found it. Soul-mates ♥️

Lucas Rocha couldve swore it was Can I kick it by A Tribe Called Quest

Taxman by the Beatles or Start! by The Jam.
