Fun fact, the very first Electric Bass was a Fretless Bass going back as early as 1935 because it was basically a Scaled Down Electrified Upright Bass morphed into the shape of a Guitar.
Great review and playing! Have you ever tried combining the dynamic Mic sound with the IR? I’d love to hear your take on it. I was thinking this could potentially be a great live sound for a gig. A dynamic mic, going to a pedal loaded with the IR, into a clean amp or direct.
Very interesting going through the various mic'ing options. I'm listening on a laptop computer speaker, so I know I need to go listen with real speakers. But first thoughts...wow...huge differences in timbre and articulation. I expected to prefer the IR'd sound but, strangely, it seems to muddy up the tone. Dynamic mic seems to emphasize mids. Direct sounds the most balanced to me. Very interesting. Thanks for this great demo. Very nice playing, too.
Thanks for watching! The strings are Aquila Thunderblack. They're rubber/polymer strings so check and make sure they'll work for your bass. You can purchase here: www.goldtonemusicgroup.com/goldtone/accessories/mbs-bl?dvid=6391
Fantastic playing and awesome review!

I haven't tried it but it's a great idea!

Thanks for the interesting review! I'm curious: Which strings are on the bass and where could I get these? Cheers, Christoph

Thanks for your answer. Do you know how these strings differ to the white ones on the 25'' fretless microbass?
For the “dynamic mic” recording- was that mic on amp or mic on acoustic only?
That was a UA SD-1 on the acoustic only. Thanks for watching!
I'm surprised it records on a dynamic mic so well.
