    The gray ”becket” was used to get milk from the barn into the house.
    The windows: is it there only one later of glass? There should be a extra layer of windows to put in during the winter to keep the warmth in and the cooles weather out, kind of insulation.

    That long board to hang clothes on often was placed outside the classroom in the entry.
    You felt how the sun have a lot of warmth. Perhaps the house is lacking sufficient insulation and the house will get reallöner cold in the winter.

    I like how you style little vignettes.. this is how I decorate my personal space with little pockets of treasures. You don't often come across tatting and crocheted items, ( doilies )so those are special as are the linens and the 🎩 is very cool! Your enthusiasm and delight is so infectious!😊...
    I believe traditionally, that children were taught to read so that they would be able to read the bible. It doesn't surprise me that you found a box of bibles in an old school 🏫! Lastly, I love the empty frame on the wall because i do the same!

      Hi Melinda, it's really nice to hear that I'm not the only one doing or liking certain things;) As for the bibles, those bibles could have definitely been used in the school for the children but there are also a lot more religious books that are all about mission work in Tanzania, Africa so I do wonder if there was a church that used the school-building too because the building next door also belongs to the church and the school was also used for communal things like gatherings so I should ask around a bit to find out more about that and maybe they had sunday school too right? Those kids I mean.

    Such a treasure trove. You look really happy in your classroom. And I would put the shelf back in the original spot. It looks great in your room but with your skills you could easily repiclate it.

      I also feel so passionate about restoring things and bringing things back as they were in the past but I was looking at the little bit of footage that I have of this hallway I don't think that it fits on any of the walls in there either so we have to do some research just to find out where it was because it must have been in the school somewhere! I do have some amazing really old wood already to make a shelf out of and that would be such a fun little project to do!

    The platter would make a great bird bath outside your window. The yellow/white would make a great table throw or runner. Great finds.

      @EvasHomeVintageDIY  Місяць тому +1

      Yes it would for sure! I was already making plans to get some bird food too for the winter. I actually think that the yellow/white fabric is actually meant to be used a table runner.

    Excited to see the rocking chair reupholstered. I think it will be lovely 💛! As for the shelf with hooks, I like the idea of it going back to its original spot. Especially if the hall is a main entry that greets guests with the obvious space to hang coats and kick off muddy boots below. Great first impression, as I'm confident you'll decorate the shelf above beautifully with vintage treasures wherever it ends up hanging!😻

      Hi Erica, thanks for your sweet comment. Glad to hear that you see the potential in the rocking chair too! The hallway is unfortunately not going to be the main entry because there is another hallway that is way more practical to use for is (we actually have 6 hallways, it's ridiculous;) and we are now thinking about starting a second hand shop in there because it's big (and perfect) enough for that so the shelf could still be very useful in there for displaying all kinds of thing on and from.

    The cloth with the hole might be a Christmas tree 🎄 skirt. Glad you’re having fun!

      @EvasHomeVintageDIY  Місяць тому +2

      Yes that also could have been it because there were a lot of Christmas fabrics in there. I guess we will never know 100% sure but it is fun to guess.

    What you thought were bibles are psalm books, to sing with at mass or other Christian gatherings. Don't know if somebody else already commented on it, my bad in that case.
    I love your couple dynamic and your enthusiasm for this endeavour!

      Hi, yes you are right about the books, I saw that too when I took one out of the box and i also think that we should keep at least one just because it's a part of the schools' history.

    So many vintage treasures! Put the shelf back in the hallway and build yourself a copy that is a better fit for your classroom. It seems like a shame to cut the original one down to fit a new space.

    je kan het beter gewoon in het Nederlands doen, je hoort zo wie zo dat je hier vandaan komt
    en als mensen je uit andere landen je willen volgen zetten ze gewoon de vertaler aan
