Seth is the primary reason I signed up for Pikes Peak marathon this year. Videos like this excite me for the adventure. THE ROCKIES!! Can't wait!

Scouting can make a huge difference. One time I went (the night before) and scouted the "most hilly" portion of a marathon and discovered it really wasn't bad at all - that saved me a lot of stress for SURE 🙏🏼

Man the whole time I'm watching I'm thinking "one little slip!" You guys are so brave! Don't think I could ever get over my fear of heights to do this!!

Agreed! Thankfully, we grew up in these mountains so it’s second nature…. and yes, I had my rock climbing heyday back in HS/early college

Incredible views! But that was definitely some gnarly “trail” there.

Your video footage of todays video remembers me big time on a video from Kilian Jornet where he is skyrunning over a mountain ridge as well where one miss step could be ending his life so easily 😬😅 Like in a blink of an eye the mountain can snap your life away 🙌🙏
Thank goodness you made it back in one piece and alive 🙏😍
    It looks really amazing 😍
Normally when somebody film something and it‘s steep in real live the camera usually doesn’t pick up the steepness. For me steep sections looks on video always flatter than it really is but not this time Bro 🔥😃
It was sometimes more mountaineering than a run 😁👌🙏

Long's Peak. That was epic! I have hiked it twice but going off trail the whole time for those five peaks was gnarly! Best recon for an FKT was in 2020 when I did it for the unsupported run of Wabash Trace in Iowa. 100k. Had to see if all of the water spigots in the small towns along the route were open. Huge deal because it was hot the day I set it and if they had been closed, I would not have made it.

In Europe on the skyrunning circuit course knowledge makes a massive different since you’re able to cut switchbacks and take the most direct line. If you don’t scout you better plan on returning to race again!

2020 JFK50 and 2024 Chambersburg Half Marathon recon payed off handsomely.
traveled from PA to MD to scout out JFK for 3 days / did a medium long run/workout on the half marathon course.
recon is my favorite. i love traveling to scout out a course.

Oh man … recon is 50% or more on so many FKT’s and even Trail Races like NHSTC … you know where the fastest ascent/descent lines are, which gradients to push, when to grab brakes, etc… psychologically it translates into so much more confidence tho!
Nice work! Ooooooph, dos minutes!?!? That was an emotional watch for me; in 1981 I fell 60’ of The Diamond during a winter ascent attempt when a part of the Diamond chunked off in my hands. paralyzed my left side; literally had to on the face in a winter storm, rap off, and limp/ crawl down that trail (self rescue or die in those days) with my partner’s help. Mt. Lady Washington was a training peak for my creation of the Boulder/Longs Peak bike/run Duathlon which I guess is now a standard Boulder test piece. Thanks for taking us along!
At what technical level did you rock climb at?!🙏🏾

Only got one FKT, in 2016 (Navajo Mountain to Rainbow Bridge, UT on the Navajo Nation). Remote technical mountain and high desert/canyon course in a 25-mile descent to the Colorado River. Scouted the first section of the Rainbow Trail because we would be starting before dawn and wanted to memorize the terrain. It made all the difference! Godspeed to the DeMoors. Loved this video.

  • @coloradosheets

That had to be more than 14 miles, just doing a loop of taking loft couloir up and key hole down is 14 miles, adding Meeker, Pagoda, Storm and Mt. Lady Washington must surely have added a couple of miles (at least!!). In any case, 5 hours is just insane. And I know those routes, it's a crazy time not only because of the distance and vertical gain, but because of the technical off-trail terrain. Nice work guys! BTW - how are those new Prodogios??? I've been eyeing them up but still sad they're discontinuing the Jackal II's 😞

When doesn't it make a difference, scouting is crucial for a sucessful race or FKT attempt. Even if you aren't competing at the elite level scouting will help your run. Amazing trail
