This is a story that needs to be told. Much has been made (and rightly) about some of the great names in music (and particularly jazz history). But the story of Ra Kalam Bob Moses has never been told like this. His is a must-know name for any music lover. Your contribution will help us educate others on his importance to the world of Western music.
We also recognize that, while he has a bright and fighting spirit, Ra Kalam’s diagnosis is not promising. Ra Kalam is the best person to tell his own amazing story, and we want to help him do this while we still have him with us. We feel urgency to complete the filming for this project in the next 3-6 months.

I got to a show when he was on tour - John Medeski & Bob Moses, opening for Charlie Hunter, Adam Cruz. I think it was 1999. So great, incredible music making. He told stories about making his own sticks, what a great hugger Medeski was. My mates and I decided he was our favorite eccentric uncle that we wished we could hang out with more often. They all jammed together at the end of the night. He was taking a solo and just stopped dead in the middle and said something like, "I don't want to be taking all the limelight". Charlie Hunter's mouth opened wide, smiling, and his eyes lit up, like, "WTF is happening?", and Moses came right back in on the beat without messing anybody up. It was kinda mind-blowing for a second. He was so friendly and humble, and when he and Medeski were playing, his hands seemd to be floating above the drums, waiting for the rhythm to move him, excited with the twists & turns the jams were taking. I feel Lucky to have witnessed it. Looking forward to seeing the film.
True story. I hung out with Rakalam (“Bob”) while he was in Denton, TX playing with Gary Burton. We went to visit someone I knew in order to acquire some grass. I knocked on the door “knock knock knock” in a straight rhythm. He said “that sounds like a cop- put some rhythm in it”. Every time after that anytime I knock on any door it’s “ da dat da dat da da dat” or some rhythmically musical knock. After moving to NY I took some lessons with him. The lessons were just as organic as thinking about a simple knock.

Is this completed / available? I am a longtime student and friend of Rakalam - I’m so glad a proper tribute and acknowledgment of him is in the works, while he continues to walk among us. Greg Burrows

I love Ra Kalam - he’s a friend and an enormous influence on me, both has a drummer and personally. He was my first Real connection to the scene in New York when I graduated high school in the suburbs and started hanging out in the big dirty stanky wild metropolis, New York.

It's not out. We are filming in New York in July then post-production begins. We will be putting out a 3 and a half minute trailer soon.
