The thing I love about the Epiphone Casino is that it can play a variety of musical styles. From gentle ballads to hard rockers. Probably the only flaw with this guitar back in the day was that it was a fully hollow semi-acoustic guitar and thus was prone to feedback. But these days, as long as you have the right equipment, you could use it in the place of a solid body electric guitar without any problems.

Great review! Very thorough and lot's of fun. I bought my sunburst Casino about a year ago and love it. It's my go-to guitar whether plugged-in or just noodling for 10 minutes here and there. After watching 'Get Back' I'm all into learning John's playing - especially the title track. Heck, you might have inspired me to get a 2nd Epi - the natural finish you showed.

I’ve had mine, in classic burst, for around a month now, and I absolutely love it. I haven’t played anything that feels as good since my ‘63 Melody Maker. There’s just something about these Epiphone necks. My other guitar, for 20 years now, is a natural blonde Sheraton II, another killer.
My only gripe w the Casino is the common one: lack of high fret access. It’s a bit more restricting than I’d pictured, but I’ve gotten used to it.

Damn good looking guitar Landon and it definitely has that John Lennon tone and vibe! You definitely managed to show that with those Beatle licks! I’ve always stuck with semi hollow 335ish guitars as the feed back “issues” always scared me off. But after hearing your demo I’m now more intrigued! As you mentioned the fully hollow body’s do sound completely different. I didn’t think it would be that big a difference as they are so thin in depth unlike say a Gibson L5 or other arch top “Jazz” guitars that have a much deeper body. But this video has disabused me of that misconception! Thanks your videos are always very entertaining as well as informative! Very much appreciate it!

To my ear, the shorter sustain envelope is part and parcel of the appeal. Semi-hollows sustain almost as well as a solidbody. While that’s great for liquid, legato leads, rhythm playing has more “bark” on the Casino thanks to the faster, almost “acoustic” decay.

I have a Casino... you have to be really loud and close or in-front of the amp to have feedback issues. Playing in small venues and studios, as we real people usually do, this almost never shows and is barely an inconvenience.

I also just bought a Casino in natural. Very happy to be using this when my album recording sessions commence tomorrow! Although it sounds great, I’ve found with all dials set on full and trying all three pick up positions, it is very bassy… I’m hoping I’ll try rolling the neck volume down to 5 in studio tomorrow as you said. Two comments: There’s no sin in having different amp settings for different guitars, especially in the studio- all my amps need a little bass boost when playing a Fender, so it’s only natural to roll that back with a Gibson. Even with P90’s. Secondly, don’t be afraid to embrace the fat, round sound of the Casino. You’ve already got a great range of tight, percussive sounds from your Tele- the whole idea of adding a second electric, is to broaden your tonal vocabulary.

I have a 2001 blonde Casino but it is made in the Peerless factory and the good thing is that on the older ones (ie not Chinese) the neck joins at the 17th fret, it looks better and you have easier access to upper frets. The feedback, in my opinion, is manageable once you get used to it and can be used to good effect, don't use too much bass and overdrive or stand in front of amp and you will be OK. You can actually buy a set of inserts that kinda restrict the F holes and these work great at reducing the feedback or you can also stuff foam carefully into the cavity through pickup cavities and F holes - it works. I love my Casino.

It's a very good looking guitar, Landon, and it's certainly interesting to try a hollowbody. I got a Gretsch G2420 hollowbody a little while back - good fun and, yes, it's nice to be able to play without an amp. The finishing of f-holes on less expensive guitars often leaves something to be desired. They just don't/can't spend the time required to really do them consistently well. Its an aspect where inspecting individual examples can help, but that's not always possible as when buying online or where the flaws may be hidden. Thanks.

The one thing I like better about the ES-335 over the Casino is the body joins the neck at the 20th fret instead of the 16th. I think it's because the 335 has a centre block and doesn't rely as much on the support it gets from the body. Casino needs the higher joint because it relies on the body's support.
Love this guitar for the Beatles and P90 goodness. That feedback can be used strategically during songs, just like Weezer and Radiohead did in the 90s!

I got a new "Worn Olive Drab" Casino from L&M earlier this year. Love the color and the finish on the neck feels great. I hate gloss necks and this one feels like wood. It definitely needed a set up (relief adjustment, intonation, a couple of high frets) but I'm very comfortable doing that sort of work. Now it plays fantastically. Very happy with it and a great value. When I bought it I was comparing it to a Casino Coupe. Price was similar. I REALLY wanted to like the Coupe. Smaller body, easier upper neck access (body join at 17 vs 15 fret). But I found the Coupe to be neck heavy, and it had a high gloss neck finish. Both mojo killers for me. If you are not comfortable doing some basic guitar maintenance, its probably not a good choice for you (unless you want to spend some extra $$$$ on professional work), but if you are OK with that, I would highly recommend it as a great value, unique sound, and fun to play guitar.

It came down to a choice between the Gretch and the Casino. I bought the Gretch because of the microphonic feedback tendency for full hollow-bodies like the Casino. I would still like the Casino because I never play at high gain or high volume settings where feedback can be an issue.

I got one 2019, mine definitely has Pau Ferro board, anything after the rosewood CITIES has it I believe.
Other than the board mine rattled a lot, plumbers tape on the bridge posts fixed that. Also the pickups on mine were really hot 11k ohms. So got replaced for Lindy Fralins,.
I love mine & always play it.

I first became attracted to these instruments through the form of the Gibson ES-330 that Lenny Davidson of the Dave Clark Five would occasionally play, along with his Stratocaster ... that was 1964 or so, I reckon. I was working in my brother's music store in Tallahassee, Florida in the early '70s, and was able to take home a customer's cherry red 330 for a night or two ... boy, there is nothing like these Casinos except a 330! Most of the foreign made Casinos are, IIRC, five-ply bodies, whereas the USA are, I believe, three-ply. These are wonderful guitars.

Love the fully hollow body and the pickups are great. Rock, blues, a bit of jazz, fusion. Great p/u for the price. And it was under $700 CAD so what a sweet deal. Highly recommended. I do dig that pony and yes I'm a Beatles fan. Hard not to be. They pretty much covered the entire rock spectrum giving something to appeal to nearly everyone during their run. That is a beautiful guitar and it has some sultry tones. I've never played one but I've always wanted to. I guess my biggest draw against getting one over the years was versatility, which I assume would be the issue with most budget rockers. When you can only choose one to have, you go with the one that covers everything as best it can. I'd like to mention one more thing brother as a long time sub. Proud of the work you've been putting in on your playing. There was nothing at all to be ashamed of when you began this UA-cam journey, but your skills and ease have visibly improved and you deserve a pat on the back for the practice and hard work. Keep playing and having fun man!!! I appreciate you 🤘🙏🤘

Every time I see an embossed E onthe pickguard I know it's new. Originals had the E in the guard. I was lucky that my first band had a brilliant lead guitarist ( now dead) with a 1961 335 style with mini humbuckers made by epiphone but put on Epiphones and Gibsons as they were left over from te Company's sale to Norlin. A real Epiphone is an old one. I also had an Epiphone Texan acoustic that got me a great deal of work as a backup and or session muso. The Beatles and the Stones also used REAL EPIPHONES.

Yes that maple natural looks very nice and overall looks to be a good model. The chrome P90s look great. Especially prefer pau ferro over indian laurel. The feedback can be an issue for sure as nicely demonstrated, so I prefer a semi hollow. I had a Framus 335 as my first electric, many decades ago, and it was fun. Or maybe an Epi 339. Was looking at the Epi Uptown Kat at one point but prefer full humbuckers to the minis. Still the Kat is sweet and hard to beat. Also some of the Ibanez semi hollow are pretty sweet and Gretsch has a few models I like. So many great options at the Epi price point, choosing just one semi hollow is hard.
