Just so you know, RYD does offer their API for use in other plugins and applications, such as UA-cam Vanced (rip) and at least a few of the other plugins, if not all. Scraping UA-cam for that database when the days were counting down to the API shutdown, and storing and displaying the results from the plugin are no small undertaking.
Wonder how long the last version of vanced will work. What an amazing app it was/is!
@@DrakkarCalethiel they said 2 years or till they change the api so far so good
@@DrakkarCalethiel hopefully long enough for an alternative to pop up and mature a bit.
@@primus711 i've been using the old version of youtube vanced for over 2 years and i have never needed to upgrade it, on auto play, adds can come up, but they can be swiped away right away.
@@c97x happens in the latest too well ad vids anyway
It's a damn shame what they've done to this platform.
Yep. Totalitarianism/Leftism ruins almost everything it touches.
@@ZeroESG.goopootoob This doesn't have to do anything with politics. This has to do with corporate greed.
@@Scwarzkopit's both UA-cam and Google is very political
Hey, RYD creator here, thanks for featuring my extension\API.
I'm a bit late to the party, but anyways: videos which are REALLY hated (and I mean really) tend to have estimate a bit on the over-inflated side (i.e. the extension tends to show a bit more dislikes than there actually are). Simply because pretty much no-one who uses extension lives a like for such videos, so estimate becomes a real problem there.
For example, the little mermaid video has 12k likes by extension users, and 148k dislikes. With naive approach to calculating ratio - this would mean that the video should have a total of 1.2 million likes and over 10 million dislikes. A video with 20 million views and 10 million dislikes is very unrealistic, so a more complex formula is applied in these kinds of situation.
I'm quite bad at updating FAQs and other docs, so much of it gets outdated, sorry about that.
Thanks for writing such a plugin. I'm about to install it. Even if it is an estimate, it will still interesting to see which side of an issue is actually receiving more support.
Would be great if the plugin would let creators opt in to sharing their actual dislikes
But then the big companies and governments they are trying to protect automatically get named and shamed by hiding it.
Apparently they are working on something like that.
So, according to the FAQ on their website:
Q: Can I share my dislike data with you?
A: Coming soon. We are looking into using Oauth or a different read only API with a limited scope so creators can share their dislike counts verifiability.
It would be even better if youtube itself allowed users to opt in showing their dislikes instead of disabling it without a choice. Then there wouldn't be a need for a plugin.
if google opens the backdoor open. as of now its shut so this tool is now only used to fake the data.
Recently they changed the dislike button color so it blends in with the background more. Also added a sparkling animation to the like button. It is so clear all they care about us removing negative sentiment completely.
No, it's politically motivated to protect leftism.
I hate they turned dislikes off. I teach students with exceptional needs, and there's a ton of garbage on UA-cam. Sometimes I need on the fly to present some type of visual, so I would just search youtube, only to find garbage. With downvotes, I could see the way people voted of the quality of the video. Screening videos becomes more complicated as again, now I have to sit through more of it to see. And when videos are enabled for all ages, the comments are also turned off. I will be installing this plugin, hopefully it helps to some degree!
Never screen based on popularity, for literal goodness' sake.
Screen based on the quality of the idea being communicated, subtly, overtly, and inadvertently.
Every recording has an agenda, for better or worse.
@@ZeroESG.goopootoob not everyone has the time to watch X amount of minutes to find the stance conveyed by the uploader, you still ignored the op point that its harder to tell if someone is lying or not for kids/younger content as comments are blocked which doesn’t allow them to verify the truthfulness of the video in question
4:35 So the plug-in shows the ratio based on people who install the plugin. That gives even more relevant data to people who install it, so more like-minded people contribute to the figure rather than everyone else. Win-win.
The part that I HATE about losing the dislike ratio on UA-cam is for DIY videos and instructional videos. If it has a bunch of dislikes, it is either a bad video or show how to do something wrong or even dangerous! If I am watching on my phone it is hard to go read all the comments to see if what they are doing is a good idea or not. For example, looking up how to do something on your car or house. How are we supposed to tell if what they are saying is BS or not based on the number of people who watched it and know better?
It always amazes me that Google, as huge they are , they make for the most parts excellent products.. But not in Googles entire history have they hired a good UI/UX designer... Just bring back the counter UA-cam, ppl like it
This was not a UX decision.
It was a political one.
@@hayd7371 what about every other product they have rlsd :D ? Dont get me wrong, im a big fan of Google and use a lot of their services.. But UI/UX has never been their strong suite, best example was Google+ "social network" :D
@@TheGFS Google+, what a waste of resources that abomination was.
@@DrakkarCalethiel yeah they did an awesome job failing at that :D
Absolutely POLITICAL like the idea of scattering privacy and data collection settings all across the board.
But meh... there's a certain background of not considering UI... their best selling software, i.e. Chrome doesn't have one...just a bunch of menus thrown together. Android... is so good at UX that most brands re-wrap the interface in a new skin... and it's the lousiest mobile operating system EVER, they've even REMOVED ACCESS to the TCP stack so that NO ONE has access and knows what they're doing.
If Google were to be a nation... they'd be Russia, for sure. And they've already tried to invade my house with countless connected spy devices: VADE RETRO, SATAN!
Well, I take this rough estimation over nothing. Thanks for even bringing that up, I had no idea someone made a plugin for that. Just installed it.
Everyone should know what it is so that they can make a choice whether or not they choose install it (personally they should because there is, so far, no suspicious activities being done by this addon)
@@aidungeon2591 This addon also has another function that I was not aware of until a few days ago. If the creator disables the like and dislike button entirely it still works and shows likes using it's alternative methode. Very cool.
Installed the plug-in for Firefox. At least I now have a gauge. Thanks for sharing!!!
The more people install it, the more data the developer can collect.
and the more data they will collect to send third parties.

Thanks Dave, I installed the seconds after you 1st told us about this months ago
The Return UA-cam Dislike addon sends data to an unknown server.
The inherent bias might fit your audience, which could explain why the ratio fits well to your internal data.
If I would take a guess, the users of this plugin might be leaving towards the tech-savvy side, which could also match your audience.
To properly demonstrate that the bias of this plugin is actually low regardless of the content shown, it would be necessary to use a variety of channels with different types of viewers. Maybe this way they could tune their internal computation?
Came here to say basically the same... I would even go so far to say: People who use the Plug-in tend to be more tech-savvy ... more tech-savvy people tend to be more edgy ... so the counts may be skewed in a particular direction.... But the actual Numbers are irrelevant.... the Pro/Contra ratio is much more interesting, as long the sample size is big enough. The Plugin should display it's own Sample Size, so that one could evaluate the extrapolation
After UA-cam removed the dislike count, I stopped both liking and disliking videos. It feels pointless to like a video when there isn't a counterbalance to the likes count.
The only times when i click either the like or dislike button now is when I accidentally click one of them when intending to click on another button
The creator still sees it
@@EEVblog2 I reckon most people don't click those buttons to please the creator and they couldn't care less, but to help others evaluate whether it's a good video to watch.
I installed that plugin so early that the dislike count never really dissapeared for me. I never got out of the habit of voting on videos. The dislike count has always been the best metric to gauge whether a video is worth watching.
Of course it's biased, but it's actually biased for average people using the add-on, so if we're in similar mindset to most of people using the app, it's gonna be actually more accurate for us. If a lot of people not using the plugin dislike a video, but not many of "regular folks" or the other way around, it's gonna be fairly inaccurate.
That's what might be visible on that odysee video, it was probably disliked by some "normies" that don't use the plugin, while people using it might be more interested in this sort of video.
It would go the other way round if there's something that regular folks like, but people who use the plugin dislike - the real dislike count would be much lower than the one presented.
BTW, you can get the dislikes in yt vanced on Android.
9:00 That seems odd. Is it doing it based on your channels average? Is there a default average dislike ratio? 50% margin of error is pretty absurd if you ask me.
I can also confirm on my tiny technical channel the return dislike stats are very accurate, usually only off by 1 to 4 dislikes but about half on the higher side instead, but as a percentage of the like to dislike ratio it's an insignificant error especially when just getting the general vibe of if people like a video.
Also tip for users of the addon, you can change the colours and bring back to classic bright green and red bar. Very useful when browsing tutorials you know immediately when someone has uploaded a bad, outdated or even in some cases intentionally malicious tutorial you should not follow without having to dig through the comments.
Now it´s not working again. How do I fix it?
I just clicked on Add-ons in my Firefox menu thingee, searched the name, and installed it. IT WORKS. Thank you.
Can a content creator find out who the people are that have disliked their videos, or is this strictly a counter with no other information attached to it? I was wondering if there is a way to find out if there are specific users or bots that always dislike videos.
Cool! I didn't know about this plugin before. I'm giving it a try now.
This is a great initiative, even if it's inaccurate. The inaccuracy will likely force the idiots over at UA-cam HQ to bring back the real number if they deem it more harmful
Yep some of us use UA-cam Vanced in our phones, gives the UA-cam Premium options for free and show the dislikes
Thank you and I love your sharing.
I have this plug-in on one of my computers and I do not really dislike videos that much at all, only mainly when I feel like I don’t agree with what’s in the video!
Thanks for this! Another poignant question: Why the heck do great videos always have a bunch of dislikes? This totally baffles me. Bots maybe? If so then why?
If RYD basically extrapolates their addon users like/dislike rate, and the RYD adoption is maybe 1:3 or 1:4 of the total viewership, when a RYD user clicks on dislike, the counter should go up of 3 or 4 units (and show it immediately?).
It pretty much does it. But updating count by 3 or 4 immediately would confuse a lot of people, so it has a bit of delay.
i do wonder if this downwards bias is due to thumbs down bots
but that also makes me wonder if its possible to abuse the return-dislike-button API to thumbs-down-spam someone
There is browser extension too!
My guess why on your videos, it is giving you a lower number: People who use that plugin have a higher probability to know your channel. And people who know your channel dislike less. Just my theory. So these numbers are not that super useful; they are still only representing a bubble somewhat.
Someone needs to sit all the youtube execs in a room and make them watch inside out
I use the "Return UA-cam Dislike" plugin. For some reason this video does not show the thumbs down counter unless I click the dislike button. When I press the button it reads 9 thumbs down. When I press it again, the value disappears. Thums up is steadily reported as 472. So this video should have approx. 1.9 % thumbs down and 98.1 % thumbs up. (9/481*100% vs. 472/481*100%)
I think they should try doing some AI prediction based on video language, title, category etc to predict the corelation of expected revievs to views and then count the difference as dislikes
I'd trial this with a video where Dave requests everyone to smash the dislike button. In fact, let's do it with this video!
It's not working with the UI update
Yes, stopped working 2022-11-08 (Germany). Too bad, I liked (hehe) this extension...
I hope we will get an update really quick
Awesome! They have an application for it. Now I can see the reality of the world news channel. Maybe there is hope for the world after all?
i'm glad they not Remove the Dislike Button entirely
the problem here is a lot of people who dislike the video wouldn't hit the dislike button because they believed there's no point in clicking on s button that doesn't work...so those that are still clicking on the dislike button are getting rare and rare
it works.. kinda.. bit buggy on older browser.. :)
When I first watched videos they had a five star ranking system. You could give it no stars, or 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.
youtube update killed it
Hmmm why was that Disney movie already disliked?
The Odysee video is likely a case a bias - the users that dislike UA-cam might be more likely to use the extension and less likely than the non-users of the extension to dislike content critical of UA-cam.
(Which would explain why the dislike count estimated from extension users is so much lower...)
If creators can see how many likes/dislikes their videos actually have, why can't the plugin use the data from the Content page you showed at 6:33 and 7:15. Looks like youtube is still recording the number of dislikes even though its not visible under the video.
I think that the API for getting this number can be used only to get the dislike count of your own videos. I bet you cannot use this API to probe other channels..
@EEVBlog That app is UA-cam Vanced. Sadly it got discontinued.
I'm using this app btw.
I should warn you it looks like they've updated their FAQ's with the correct formula. It looks like in the FAQ that you showed whoever wrote it accidentally flipped the ratio. In their current FAQ page it's RYD Dislike Count = (RYD Users Dislike Count / RYD Users Like Count) x Public Like Count. Which definitely makes more sense. In the formula you showed it made no sense because if you at 3 likes to every dislike you would get a dislike count 3 times the like count, rather than 1/3 the like count.
I laugh because the same people that celebrate the removal of dislikes are the same ones that can't figure out why no-one's going to see their movies...
Thanks DJ, i installed it, just cos ur my guru...... hahahaha i shud say my bloody okkar.
I just installed it.
How do they solve the problem of some things being more good than others? Why not just define a constant and give everything a rating of 1000 by default?
I think the bigger question here is, how do you know how the dislike button worked before, or how it works now?
Because of the reason they removed it.
Censored claims prove themselves.
You know, for all the talk of how removing the dislike count would ruin UA-cam, I've not seen diddly-squat difference in the quality of UA-cam or the quality of Disney's terrible live action remakes. As I've always said if they hid the dislike count but also made dislikes actually demote videos in the algorithm instead of promoting them because dislikes = iNcReAsEd UsEr EnGaGeMeNt then the world would be a better place.
The quality of the videos hasn't changed, but the time that it takes to find videos relevant to specific and niche needs has increased.
@@lucaslac124 Not to mention whenever you dislike something recommended after a video you like, or God forbid you hit "remove from list", Google "really wants to know" why you did that so they can recommend you BS like the Royal family shite, political shite, or shite they know will get attention like black Ariel or transgender Pinnochio fairy. UA-cam fuckin sucks so hard now and the saddest thing is there ia no alternative that has all the people I like or videos I want. We have become too attached to UA-cam because no one thought they would be a political weapon. How naive we all were back then (granted I was a teen when UA-cam came out).
@@lucaslac124 Can you give an example where the visible downvote count has helped you find a niche video, rather than order which they were presented in the search result? Again I'd imagine downvoted videos being demoted in results would be more useful than a visible downvote count.
My fear is that this plugin will someday be broken or no longer be there to install...
What should we do if one day UA-cam becomes too unreasonable to use it at all?
Time to go to Rumble 😎
I still think that the results from your channel/videos do not generalize well...if you add all the mobile users and the non technical users I think plugin penetration is well under 1%
Use UA-cam revanced it has the return UA-cam dislikes addon
So is that "Bring Back The Dislike Count" channel still up? Tried searching for it but all I found was a "Bring back the dislike count" channel with 71 subscribers...
#1 used browser is owned by the same guys that own UA-cam. Won't be long before the app for some reason just no longer works. 🤔
I my Self still will Click the Like Button...I watch the Videos likes or dislikes.. If it Sucks then I tell People it Sucks..
lets just move to another platform!
Interesting but I’m not sure it means anything. As you showed your audience has a much higher percentage of users using the add-on compared to normies and thus a better grasp of the true picture. The counts are likely under for dislikes on your videos for this reasons. I doubt many of your subscribers would dislike a video of yours very often.
TLDR, this is accurate for more tech/engineering channels but for something mainstream I don’t think this means anything in terms of accuracy.
Maybe the kind of people who install this plugin are more likely to like than dislike a video (compared to the general YT population), and that could be why it understimates the real dislike numbers?
Youted Vanced had the feature, Vanced is banned now so I'm using Vanced+, its UA-cam Vanced but way better
@linuxguy 11. Where i found vanced+? Any discord or telegram link?

I also use the return youtube dislike plugin, but missed out on the poll. However I'll almost never dislike a video, if anything I over-like videos. It has to be a pretty egregious video to get a dislike from me.
On the other hand, if you ask me to dislike the video, sure, I'll dislike it.
Indeed. I Like virtually every video I watch, usually at the start. Why would I do that? Simple. I only watch videos that I am almost certain to like. If it later turns out there is a serious flaw with the video, I have the option to later un-Like it.
I Like videos as a way to recognize the effort that someone went to in producing and making available a video that I like. Actually Disliking a video is exceptionally rare. I reserve that for deliberately-misleading videos, for the most part.
That's why i don't need such pluign, it is not reliable data, so i can guess with the same success and don't have to add another pluign that in future could be security issue (I know, there is soruce code, but not always source code and plugin in store are the same thing, there are even examples that plugin was bought to make it malicious).
Second thing is that it doesn't matter if video got many likes or dislikes it gets popular either way, so best thing to do is not to give any of this to bad videos and let it be forgotten.
That's like saying opinion polls are irrelevant. Yes, they are not 100% accurate, but are usually close enough to reality. In this case the only other factor is that people installing this plugin might have some biases compared to people that don't install it. But I don't have a problem with that.
UA-cam should offer plaques for getting 1 million plus dislikes. Imagine the entertaining flood of shitpost videos.
cool! i see one dislike from a tester here
Thanks
the 3 dislikers are a bunch of bums...
...strange... my counts are a little higher on the vids compared to in the studio...
S how many disslikes did smart face Matts vid show using this plug in. I do know they had very few likes before they decided to hide their own dada
There you can see. It doesn't work.
Yes, there are numbers approximately thereabouts right.
I'm not claiming it's bloated, but it'll definitely not give you the dislike count, as the website makes you believe.
It's a cute estimate, but can go wrong on so many levels...
And it does, as you show yourself. It halves numbers, gives too low estimates...
It is surely useful. But when it gives you half the actual number, how high is the accuracy?
Abysmal, right.
Only a quarter of *your* viewership uses it. Most others don't.
And that clearly shows by giving wrong results.
You only focus on "overreporting", but it's equally useless if it gives you half the correct value...
And UA-cam doesn't give the slightest fuck whatsoever
given only a quarter people who watch the channel use the plugin, it was pretty accurate. But the estimates can sure go wrong, however I've yet to see major fuck ups yet. If I see too many, then ofc it's a bias issue but one or a few flukes is still fine for an estimate, at least for me and a lot of people.
So the users of it know of the issues that can arise and the problem too, but not sure it's it's to the bloated extent that I'll go around with my first sentence being "There you can see. It doesn't work." while the vide he's making shows it does pretty well enough
@@arnabbiswasalsodeep "only a quarter" On other channels it's less than 1%.
this video has 58 dislikes
UA-camrs using this should always add that the dislike count is estimated. I always cringe when the number is taken as a fact.
You proved yourself that there is a massive bias. Dislikes are 50% under-reported when it comes to alternative platforms, as you have seen yourself. I assume the bias is even bigger when it comes to the bs of bigger corporations, because it's exactly the people being aware of that bs who install the plugin. Let's be aware that we are somewhat in a filter bubble when looking at the dislike count of current movies and similar things.
The point is that the claim being made is that it OVER REPORTING dislikes on the controversial videos.
Love it... Thanks Dave and the Programmer.... Back to more Normal and Fairness..👍👍👍👍
Wasn't aware this existed. Since we have the Likes and calculated Dislikes it should be possible to reverse calculate the number of viewers... or am I completely off..
I in general only hit "dislike" on programs that have extreme /exagerated/false information or use click bait or misleading title/ intro picture on basically no value/interest content or image is unrelated and is never part of contained presented content and the content is left bland/dull.
Just because I do not have personal interest in the program , I do not dislike if intent and presentation content is valid matching to title, and not exaggerated.
" Likes " given mostly if I see some value to the program, even if not specific to my interest.
*Is it accurate on my channel?
No it didn't work
If youtube don't want u to see it u can't
I did it
This time, in this video, I give 👎 , just for follow dislike count :P
Obviously it's not right because everyone that use their phone can't install the plugins, so basically more than 50% of the user
I just dislike every video for SPITE!!!!! 🤣 j/k
Should fix rather the spam accounts and impersonation accounts rather than hide the dislike counter. All to easy to have a dodgy person use a click farm to drive the like counter up, or use a whole load of those accounts to farm in spam pointing to dodgy porn sites, never went there, all too easy despite best efforts to get a trojan that way, and I am not going to bother setting up a throw away old computer with puppy linux and no storage to handle that in any case. Then the scammers who impersonate the channel, with the signature "call on Telegram" to a number that is likely a prepaid SIM or a VOIP number being used to register an account for the scam. Lot of them in USA, but a lot more in other countries with less strict control of phone numbers, where it is cheap to buy both a whole batch of SIM cards, use them to register, and then dump them, so no way to trace the card later on, as the registered channel can be easily then accessed from multiple devices.
😠😠😠😡😡😡
Its ridiculous and backward... How does anything improve if you are not allowed to criticize it?
The 240.000+ comments under that Mermaid trailer video you had in the background are so funny. Good to see that woke stuff gets what it deserves.
Reactionary chuds love soulless CGI cashgrabs as long as everyone is white.

I didn't even know this plugin existed. If i don't like a video, i just stop watching it, ive never bothered with the dislike button. I don't really care how many dislikes a video has.
Goodness, would be enough to say if it is accurate or not. 1 minute video would be far more then enough.
