I got to know you from Ali's channel and let me say this now : You are someone who makes me hugely inspired and motivated to reach my goals. Thank You.
It's a good decision you made.. working 12 hours a day is common in Dubai. It's not worth it. I quit too and now I have my own business.. never going back. Life is not all about work
The conversations you have with yourself when you are in a position like this are quite something, glad you found a happy ending, wishing you an exciting adventure in your next chapter :)
I can relate so hard for the happiness meter going super low, dreading work, and just not being able to manage a work life balance. My role is as a Business development manager. I do think for me it's the role and the actual work environment. It's just been affecting my mental health in the worst way possible. I can't help but want to take the same step as you
This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my UA-cam channel 6 months ago about self development. Now I have 350 subs and > 100 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I couldn’t have learned without getting started in the 1st place.
I'm so happy for you to be so true to yourself, connecting to your feelings and cutting off an environment that made you deeply unhappy! Thanks for sharing your story with us.
The one constant in this world is change. I wish you well on your new chapter. And know that your path will find you. God speed and continued success with your endeavors, Sheen!
Congrats Sheen! I know you mentioned it a bit before about leaving consulting and you finally made the big step. Looking forward to seeing what you will do next.
Good luck with your next chapter! I work internally for a Big 4 which is no where as bad as the client facing side and I feel the same about culture. Consulting will always be there if you ever change your mind.
Hi! This is the first video of yours I've encountered. I'm starting at an MBB next year after my PhD, and I'm a little nervous! I'm especially worried about WLB and making the transition from student life to the 60-hour work week hustle. Thanks for your candor!
I literally related with every single word and you even articulated things in my brain that i struggle to put into words, it was like seeing someone play back my daily struggle-- literally EVERY SINGLE WORD. I make the same food decisions as you, I also struggle with having a full life when co-workers all seem to be doing crazy athletic things or hobbies, I'm miserable and all I do is complain. I just wanted to validate you like you are definitely not alone. I've been in consulting for 1.5 years now and I have reached a breaking point to the point where even if I wanted to stay, I'm so burnt out and unhappy that when I put in my best my work isn't even good anymore which has been so hard. I sadly am on a visa in a foreign country and really don't want to move back home which is the only reason I'm still in the job, but I think this video also helped me realize I need to prioritize my health, well-being and happiness and make a decision. Thank you I'm so glad I found you. P.S. your apartment background is GORGEOUS.
Thanks for you sharing Sheen! I tried to look at my job under those perspectives you mentioned. Unfortunately ,ticked some boxes, like WLB and negativing feelings of walking up and driving to the office! But I realised I just don't like the strict rule of 5 days work week , as I seriously enjoy the work itself and have that passion to constanly improve my skills in it! Plus, good luck with your new adventure, looking forward to your update!
I am so happy for you! I have been trying to get into the consultancy in Dubai but the barriers to entry are so high which is so disappointing. But after seeing this video, I feel kinda relieved. I am in the Tech industry and crushing things but such is life. You like what you dont have until you have it. 😂
This is me right now. I’ve been in consulting since February. I joined straight out of uni. So glad that I got my dream job BUT the saddest part is that I’ve been on the bench since I joined! I’m doing tons of internal work (slide decks and meeting facilitations). Now I’m thinking of quitting but I’m concerned about finding the next job, as it’s not easy.
Im sorry to hear this but trust your gut feeling and dont be scared, just put yourself out there and apply! If it makes you feel better wait until you have another offer before quitting! Best of luck ❤️
@@SheenGurrib That’s exactly my strategy. I’m on the hunt for the next job out there. Meanwhile, I’m trying to make the most out of my time here in the company. Thanks for the words of encouragement Sheen! 😊
Thank you for sharing your story in such an open and honest way. I'm curious to know more about how you figured out and decided what to do next. Did you work with a coach? Looking forward to know more about what's next and all the best :)
Hey Sheen, quite off topic but I just want to tell you your makeup is SO ON POINT,I am your skintone exactly and felt like nothing really suits my skintone ,but now that I look at you and I love my skin.
I am in Dubai now I watched one day your video in consulting in dubia at that time I decide to find a job in Dubai Alxamdullah finally I got it thank for your inspire ❤
I just finished an interview with one of the major consulting firm and they were ready and congratulated me on clearing rounds with Partners as well. Oh boy that was a stressful time! But I’m glad that they are not able to match my current package and it seems like they moved on. I don’t think it’s for me either. I do like spending intellectual time but I do relate with you on other parts like creativity and work life balance.. I mean keep control of your time with you right ? Happy weekend and appreciate your decision for yourself ❤
Thanks for the video Sheen! Congrats on ending one chapter and starting another! Not trying to pry but did the new opportunity help you make a final decision to quit or did you quit first and then the new opportunity came up? 🙂
This is the video that I have been watching and I relate to all that you have said because I have the same background as you and I didn't get into consulting because of the long hours! Moving on to watch rest of your videos :) Also huge congratulations on your next project!
Thank you for sharing your experience! I’m actually struggling with work-life balance myself. I wanted to ask how different was your experience doing your PhD and working in consulting. I have considered doing a PhD but many people say it can be consuming, so I was wondering if it can be as challenging as consulting (work-life balance wise).
Oh no nothing like consulting! PhD is very self driven so people sometimes find it difficult to draw the line as to where it ends and life starts daily but in my experience my PhD was very well balanced lifestyle, except the few times with deadlines for the thesis which is normal
You and your friend Ali are the biggest encouragements for young people these days to not strive for employments, but rather for unrealistic expectations. There is so much influx on “famous” UA-camrs with no real life jobs. Buhuuu you were sad for starting your job from Monday to Friday … how many people feel like this 🙄🙄🙄
Heyyyyy. Am a cse grad from a tier 2 clg from India. But am not really interested in software or coding stuff and I've been gng through these videos and suggestions abt management consulting and it interested me. Im ready to put long hrs and even learn more in smth am interested rather than the coding stuff which might be not as stressful as consulting but i still wanna do it so am thinking of dng a masters in management degree.... do u think if put good efforts and if i study in a good b school I'll be able to crack a nice paying job??? Coz the masters degree is gng to be a huge deal to me. I wanna be sure before even running it with my parents. What'd u think

Would appreciate tips Also, as someone thinking about resigning, you're really making good points
Quick question : I would argue that if you did a PhD at Cambridge University, working solid 12 hours and more every day, then working as a consultant should have been easier for you no?
Lack of creativity... Can't agree more😂 always the same storyline... I am leaving as well after almost 1 year and will move from the Netherlands to Dubai for something else 😊 fingers crossed🤞
Thank you for making a video which is both honest but doesn’t put consulting down. Probably the best quitting consulting video I’ve ever seen
Thank you 🙏🏽
I don’t blame you. It seemed the hours were shockingly long. Wishing you the best for your future endeavours x
Thank you so much 😊
“Thinking outside of the box rather than aligning the box on a template slide” - that phrase hit me hard
Right?!

Agreed ❤️
I AM on the fence about quitting and I feel like the algorithm deliberately keeps bringing this sort of encouragement my way. I like it 😎😎
Thank you for being so transparent - I have just started a new consultant job and the work life balance is very different to what I am used too.
The conversations you have with yourself when you are in a position like this are quite something, glad you found a happy ending, wishing you an exciting adventure in your next chapter :)

There are consulting firms you can choose your time, and not overload you. Find smaller ones, like NGOs maybe.
