Absolutely love how you demonstrate the wide opening (almost horizontal/flat coning?) techinique. I throw with a community college grogged stoneware and this really helps me pull hard, dense clay. I always feel like the outer 1/2 and top 1/2 of my disc is ready to pull while the inner bit remains an inelastic, hard lump. Thank you!
So the reason why you pull it up into a cone shape is to get rid of air bubbles?? How many times should I pull it up like that before I make the hockey puck shape? I’m fairly new at the wheel… thnx for your help! I wish the wheel would turn itself instead of me having to control it with my foot! It’s difficult to do it simultaneously!! Maybe it’s going to get easier the more I do it!
Just found you! Love your videos. Can you tell me, about how big your cylinder ends up when done? I am not sure I am pulling up and thinning out clay enough. Thanks!
I use a long folded piece o paper towel to smooth my to edge... if it gets lost in the water it melts, whereas the plastic/ or shammy can get caught in my recycled clay and create problems
