Sled vs Snow Bike Experiment | Mic'd Up Ride
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 лют 2018
- We decided to try out a social experiment, to experience a sled vs snow bike day in the mountains. Could one keep up with the other? Would we be able to ride the terrain we want to together? This was our experience.

As long as you two agree that it was a wonderful day, that is all that matters.
Nailed it, Terry!
Lucky man, wish I could be there!
Hey guys! This is near Silent Pass, Golden BC Canada. As for the riding, hey I never claimed to be amazing! But just remember the GoPro wide angle footage makes the terrain look flatter than it is. Just watch some of Burandt's stuff if you don't believe me! He makes it look too easy though. Thanks for watching! ~Pat
thank you for posting this awesome vid , great scenery and i also can clearly see that it is way less effort to drive a snow bike for older guys like me that dont have much energy to invest . i tell you i sure would have liked the opportunity to drive a lets say 600 up to maybe 800 cc 2 stroke snow bike when i were younger . it sure would give this 50 year old man great pleasure for just one rip on a 2 stroke snow bike for good old time sake . in a forest just like the one you were in :)) i know that wont happen so the best thing would be to see someone build a 600 or 800 twin v mag 2 stroke and take it for a good rip . a v twin just like in some bikes only diff is a two stroke screamer , those two strokes sound like they are very angry lmao . the four strokes sound like they are just grumpy lol .
Sleddermag great vid good comparison it really depends on the sled and abilities of the rider
Where is this exactly? You said silent but where?
Never thought I'd see a Canadian Tom cruise sledder but here we are🤣
It’s about getting out with your buddies and having fun who cares about sled vs bike.
Sledder get all salty, but more people riding is a great thing.
Snow bikes ride tight trees and tech side hills where sled don’t want to go anyways.
More people riding means better support for companies and industry, win win.
Great honest review...thanks for posting!
Doubt you’ll see this but seriously great review video. You’re one of the best reviewers I’ve watched honestly
Great wrap up. As a snowbiker myself with mostly only sled friends, It's always compromise. Two average riders each on their own machines though and the snowbike will make the tough terrain magnitudes easier to ride. However out in open on huge hills in powder, with the snowbike I have to zig zag my way up because the power just isn't there. Once at the top though it's VERY fun riding back down the slope on the snowbike! So I don't mind following the sleds up the big slopes even though it's not fun going up!
Rode a snowbike for the first time recently. Way more fun than I thought it would be. Those things build confidence quickly. Can't wait to try it again.
enjoyed excellent video I ride 850 skidoo but considering a snow bike also. This was helpful
great video, thinking of getting a Timbersled, already have 800 Axis with Boondocker. Now I want one More!
thanks for the vid. was awesome to watch.
Great vid love the views!
It's been a looong time sinced I've seen snow like that. Absolutely beautiful!
Nice video. We've been experimenting with bikes and sleds the last few years too.
My wife is switching to the bike this year.
Great spot to ride ! Beautiful !
Awesome video dude!!! I'd love to ride with you guys and I don't think I could do better than you did on that sled. Great skills!
Awesome video. Excellent comparison with a rare dose of humility. Thx man.
Thanks, glad you liked it. Positive feedback always inspires us to do more like it! Cheers
Im curious why u didnt switch so u both have a chance on each bike?i would wanna try both.anyway u guys had a blast, loved the vid
Looks like a blast guys.
Nice footage
different brands.....same passion cool video man keep it up
That's right! Different strokes for different folks, but everyone is having a good time...cheers!
I disagree with a lot of these comments, my best friend was a snowbike rider, and maybe because I love to push my self, I would tell him not to compromise, following that bike pushed me harder to be more competent and go places I never thought possible. He rode sleds too, so when I got tired we would switch machines, he would get warmed up and I could rest. Such good times!
I think having a good attitude about the inevitable disadvantages you experience when with a different kind of machine is the best way to still enjoy that. And make sure don’t ruin your buddies day to.
Me watching this in love as I wait for my flat wisconsin trails to get snow so I can go 80 mph for 300 miles straight. 😅
I NEED TO RIDE ONE OF THESE
Great video helps people make decisions if they want to get the snow bike kit and don't know if they want to spend the money or not yet
Yep good video good job!
I've ridden sleds and motorcycles pretty much my entire life, in similar terrain. Your video makes me really wanna give the Snowbike a go, just to see what it's like. 👍
Guy I know who rides bike hard but says the bike has no go power in comparison a good rider on a sled can keep up with the bikes no problem I know I do on my alpha
My experience. Riding with snow bikes on a sled. Makes you a better riding in the thick stuff. Also. Those guys can lead and find open spots easier. So if you realize what each is good for and use that. You can cover a lot of ground pretty efficiently and find some killer spots.
It looks like the same situations that I have when out for a ride in the Summer with dirt bikes and quads. We can all ride together but a group of quads doing their own thing and a group of bikes doing their own thing is ideal in my opinion.
I like the bike looks like it cuts right through the deep shit good maybe not as fast on trail but still a good time! I ride both don’t have a favourite but the bike is lighter less work!
you just need to come to CA and come to the desert ride my 2 strokes in the desert in quads buddy
you've never done anything in your life more difficult than going through supercross whoops....
nice video though. i like your perspective.
What cameras do you use in this video? Great video👍
Great video. What's your thoughts on a revers trike with the snow bike mod ? Would it work beater on trails ? I'm trying to shop for a toy for my micro camping kit. It's like van life. Les is more.
what are you using to record? and/or are u using some filter or color filter when u edit? the colors looks so crips compared to my raw gopro footage
looks like fun !!
What kind of microphone were you using?
As long as you're having fun. We usually pack some brats, a few beers, a wine cooler for the snowbike guy. It's all good. haha
hahahaha!
the shot of you & your buddy at 16:02 is epic!
Totally agree! Thanks for watching!
I think this video shows it doesnt matter what you ride just go out and have fun
how old is the snowmoile
haha I love how you dont even acknowledge the absolutely beautiful scenery... look at those mountains!! thats jaw dropping
What track length on the sled ? That’s awesome terain for sledding !
154
I'd totally try and talk my sled buddy into hauling my extra fuel for the bike lol
great video! im thinking about switching to a snow bike just to be able to go with my friends into the trees. Im by far the least skilled on a sled out of all my friends so i just end up waiting or struggling in the trees and burring the sled every other turn. Going to see if i can try a timbersled this year being as im a fair moto rider, way better than on a sled.
It's like a technical terrain cheat code! Enjoy!
It’s gorgeous.
I thought for sure it would be each of your mic’d up and switching rides.
Good idea for next time! 👍
How does the Snow Bike do never had one but wouldn't mind trying one i have had a Mini Bike With a snow Track and snow ski it was fun with a little bit of snow when there's not enough for snowmobiles
They rip pretty good and lots of fun. Here's video showing some of the latest kits: ua-cam.com/video/aF8MA7G3tAo/v-deo.html
As you can see it's been snowing a lil bit! So Canadian...
Sun, snow, fresh air, friends... good day on planet earth.
What communicator are you using? The sound is great as is your video!! Anyone that criticizes your video probably has never made one or posted one. Great job!
Thanks for watching Robert! Appreciate the kind words. What you hear is not actually a communicator, but a microphone recording inside the helmet. Cheers!
cool stuff man, lil hard on throttle in opinion, steady flow to minimize petro usage for some but awsome views also!!
Also saves the clu
Clutch *
Great video!
Not fond of the hood GP angle though...
That Ohlins fork though.
just a great ride looks like a lot of fun
I'd like to try a snow bike it looks awesome.... I've always ripped dirt bikes and wheelers and of course sleds.... great video I'm jealous I want to hit that Paradise...🤘
It would have been nice if you had a camera on the snowbike as well.
Next time we will for sure! Thanks for watching.
I wish you would have shown where the sled is better.
I’ve been riding bikes and sleds here in Alaska for 40+ years. I’ve ridden my KTM 500exc through Africa, Europe and North America, raced MX, Hare Scrambles, single track and mountain terrain. I have been sledding long distances (usually 700 mile trips to the Yukon, Northern AK and N.W.T., mountain riding my Turbo sleds are my favorite. So I think I have a bit of experience.
But, I’ve tried snowbikes a few times and find I can’t get the hang of keeping the ski up in deep snow! It’s not enjoyable. This guy makes it look easy! Has to be my lack of talent.
I have a ton of snowbike experience. It sounds more like the bike was setup wrong. The ski should float easily.
Never had a issue with my ski. You do need to beef up your forks, heavier springs/ air.
Is it hard to keep the throttle steady on a sled? It sounds like you are pushing the throttle on off on off like its pulsating. Just wondering .
No, it's not difficult, but a rider can maintain better control by feathering the throttle on and off rather than by holding it steady! Thanks for watching.
I've tried to explain this so many times to people, never works.
@@TaylorAbrahamson16 I think you have to ride to understand
@@TheBCSledder I've been a dirtbiker since I could walk, I rode snowmobiles for 11 years and now I've owned a snowbike for a year. Feathering the throttle on a snowbike or a snowmobile is normal and a better way to maintain balance and traction. It's very different from riding on solid ground
@@TheBCSledder oh haha I see you were agreeing with me :)
Ya where is this??
Golden
Should start counting points from trailer on...
Did he say where this is they're riding?
Silent Pass
What does a snow bike modification cost on a bike? Great video, woud love to know more.
Adrenaline Driven Adventure Co. ADAC up to 6-8k 😵
Quiero una Snowmobile de cumpleaños para pasear en la nieve
How do you like the f5 helmet?
It's awesome! We'll do a full review on it soon! Thanks for watching!
Try out the ckx titan keeps a full seal view range is not quite as good but you can eat lunch without removing your helmet wich is nice when riding in -20+
Wish I was better at riding my sled spent 90 percent of my trip to golden digging it out
Make more mistakes
Good vid, however i would have liked to have seen how the bike compares to the sled on hill climbs.
Good point RosevearRiderZ! In the wide open, our experience was that the sled can build and carry speed better and in that way out-climb the snow bike by a fair margin. So on a straight hillclimb, the sled will out-climb the snow bike every time. But where the terrain or trees make travel less straightforward, the snowbike does a better job of maneuvering and carrying speed to help chew up hills on an angle. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
They dont compare. Sled has the muscle. I have both, and most of the time the bike makes more sense. One is not more fun than the other but sleds are way more work.
So what you mean is.....snowbikes are for girls. Just kidding.
@@nt3523 Yep. Cause 'girls just wanna have fun.....that's all they really waaaaaaaant, to have fuuuuuuuuun.....'
i dont think its classified as a social experiment unless you involve others by testing social norms. this is literally snowbike vs sled.
Why more work on a sled
Ridden quite a few MX bikes as well as street bikes and sleds, but I can't get over the feeling the type of riding suited to a snowbike isn't for me. I wish it was! Have since sold all the sleds, but still have mx bikes. Friends and I would spend the greater part of the day on fast trails. Had the most fun ripping and trying to stay with each other. Could you give me a little more info on your friend's bike? Is the electrical system on a bike a bit of a shortcoming for this application? Can it run full lights, heated grips etc? How is the maintenance schedule? I feel like this use is really hard on it. Is there any truth to that, or is it unfounded? Thanks
MrRRRR1Rob Thanks for watching. Yes, the kit does require the bike to work hard, causing service intervals to be shortened quite a bit. Lights can be run but typically heated grip mods pipe the coolant through the bars rather than use the electrical system. Lots of info out there if you're interested. The bike is a Yamaha YZ450F. The big bore thumpers are ideal for a snow bike application. Maybe you should try a rental for a day or two and see if you like it? They're plenty fun! Cheers.
Sleddermag thank you very much for the info and the reply
A ktm puts out about 195 watts (tpi 2-stroke and injected 4-stroke.
Lol yeah you are going to burn out a top end and ruin your vavles in a season on a snowbike you have it wide open the whole. Time hard on engine.
Great video! I’m a better dirt biker than sledder, but I don’t think they allow snow bikes in Vermont! I’ll have to do some research! If they dooo , I’m all over it!! Means I can ride my bike year round!!
I thought the same thing, but it takes A LOT of mods to get your summer bike morphed into a snowbike.... Plus the cost of the track system.... See if you can rent one in your area first!
Yes a group is only as strong as the weakest rider, but I’m a firm believer in the fact you can still have fun while keeping it in the least skilled comfort zone.
Yep, a bad day of riding is still better than a day not getting out there at all.
that was a fun day! if we had ridden at gorman that day it would've gone different for me
Gotta work on throttle use on the sled. Would burn less fuel and make it through more obstacles with more steady throttle. Endless revving every half second has no advantage and more times than not you'll be off the throttle when you get in an instant that you should have been under power to push through the situation.
Lol saves on the clutch as well
"Bikers are people too" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤘🤘👍👍
dam bro makes me want a snow bike lol
I hope your weight distribution has gotten better.
That looks like hell lol
I find the snowbike engine sound to be far less irritating than snowmobile. The high pitched whine of the 2 stroke is like nails on a chalkboard
Thumpers do sound sweet!
@@sleddermag I think the lack of quality mufflers and people's desire to sound cool are going to do to the Sled/ATV/dirt bike market what they've done to the diesel tuner market because guys just have to roll coal on a Prius. That's one thing I look forward to about electric sleds and ATV's, quiet.
Embrace the throttle. You will keep your sled more vertical and you can corner tighter so you didn't suck as much at riding. Still enjoyed the video. Thanks for making it.
A snowbike made from a litre bike or something with some more power would make things a bit different I feel like.
Still too short of track mine is a 165 with 3inch paddles I think the long track on a bike is 135ish? My alpha will smash through all this terrain like nothing
I rode with a Polaris boost that went everywhere my bike went, no offense I’d say it just depends on skill
To be fair, a Polaris Boost sled today is a far more capable machine than the '15 Summit was back when we filmed this. But yes, skill plays a role too. Thanks for watching.
Check out jethro450 channel for more bike with sled riding!
Sled vs Snow Bike says the title, but the only thing you will see is this dude's face and his sled.
neat segment- (Love it!)
but on or off, wing, wing , wing , wing wing... give the gas or get off it man.
You don't ride, do you?
@@TheBCSledder Yes, thousands of hours I either have the throttle On, or off.
I taught he was Tom Cruise till i get the volume up
Really should of had someone who can ride trees......still gonna lose but Man U made it look easy for the bike.
At 14:40, less hard work and get roosted by a 2-point vehicle. Two wheels forever.
Another one of Tom Cruise and Geoffrey Lewis hidden videos.
must we really "compare" 50 hp to 150 hp? and a 130 track X 12 wide 1.5 paddle to a 154 X 2.5 X 16 They have nothing in common and are made to do different things but I guess if you have new camera and dont really actually want to ride your sled then taking videos is cool.
Timbersled Aro 120 with 2.5” paddles and 11.5” wide

TIMBERSLED vs 2020 snowmobile
Good call, both platforms have had big performance improvements since these models were available! Won't change the outcome though-good times had by all.
dude that throttle, give it a break. the video is cool though.
Save up for a helicopter in case your sled breaks down, you'll have a tough time getting pulled out with a snowbike.
Snow bikes matter 👌
You would do better on an Arctic Cat. Lol.
You could for sure keep up with him a little better with an Axys Pro RMK
Run a mountain sled
_Social_ experiment?? Are you serious?
Its time for some four stroke sleds
Lol not in the mountains
Bike seems to be superior
