Having watched 5th Harmony since X factor auditions, it was always insane to me how little Dinah Jane was feature on the songs. if you don't mind me asking, I'm curious to what made you not list Ally? While vocal style and characteristics are of course up for preference, when it comes to the definition of vocal talent, Ally is the strongest in almost every area: skill, technique, range, musicality, resonance, etc (although she and Normani both possess whistle register, Ally has the highest vocal range and Normani can also go lowest)

American groups from what I noticed always have a star in the group they make sure is always scene I noticed foreign groups or non American groups tend to always have members share vocals equally on a track I swear American group members are always pinned against each other
They tried to do the same with Little Mix in regards to having Perrie as the "lead" but Little Mix fought their management for their entire career to make sure they all had equal say, the concept of equality was something that was integral to the group and the reason why they lasted so long Vs Fifth Harmony who imploded in a number of years, largely due to that inequality between members. The whole thing of having 1 lead singer is usually seen in US girl groups too (although it is a sexist and ridiculous industry standard that has been consistently disproven).
The sad part is that when Camila left their label basically disposed of them i doubt shes releasing an album, its prolly an ep Does anyone think its weird that NO ONE ( Lauren, Normani, Dinah, Ally) has released full albums since leaving group... i wonder why
Wow, this explains so much. I hate that they told her to tune down her vocals for the records. Dinah's voice sits with the likes of the legendary vocalist so imagine telling Beyonce, Whitney, Mariah, Aretha, etc. to tone down on the soul and power??
This is a very important topic. Young people starting out in the music industry don’t realize that If you are signed to a major label or a subsidiary, you may qualify for health insurance though AFTRA. This applies to “royalty artists” as well as session vocalists, and the plan also covers families, not just individuals. Normani was and still is the best dancer lmao Dinah was 2nd however Dinah was always out of breath. Normani wasn't a strong vocalist but the better live performer
I think you're both wrong, Dinah was always out of breath, true, but Normani had some of the best vocals, she had the whistle notes and generally she could pull off a hour and a half show very easily. Ally was and still is the best vocally, she can belt notes and is very, very precise. The fact that Dinah was being held back during Fifth Harmony is genuinely the saddest thing in the Fifth Harmony Universe considering we only got to see a fraction of her talent, and even that outweighed all the girls (not to say that the other girls were not also very talented but you can't that Dinah was always the stronger powerhouse). She was always so beautiful to listen to and SHE should have been the one to bring that unique sound fifth harmony with her riffs and runs as well her high notes. Management should have balanced their shine but Dinah, Lauren, and Normani should have been the girls that would take the center stage most of the time, not only because it would look more visually coordinated, but the three of them seemed to have good communication (and they never seemed jealous of eachother) which makes a difference in performances. They were also the perfect balance of maturity and silliness during interviewers. I feel like if they had more freedom and were allowed to make their own music together and own their own, they would have become bigger than they already were. We truly could have had one of the most talented, diverse, relatable and artistic girl groups of this generation if only their management was smart about it and gave them both creative freedom and artistic liberties. I genuinely hope Dinah finds the right sound for herself, and gets the recognition she diverse. She really is one of the great vocalists of our generation and I hope more people see that.
Also, I can't explain it but I have a theory that if the three girls were put infront more and promoted and encouraged by their label more, after the hiatus, all them would have gone on to have successful careers (in the sense that it would be easier for all of them to start their careers and have their names remembered with working too much for it). Because the fame would have been equally balanced - if that makes sense. But because they made sure that the focus was mostly on Camila, the other girls sort of got pushed to the back which made them have to work harder to get their name out their after the split. And so now, all of them really have to work to become as successful as they were during 5H (If they want to, because Lauren cares more the connections made through music rather than sales), and Camila got like 3-4 years of fame, and now she's also sort of fading away.

@@Bruddahlekii she meant that she didn't have lines, basically in groups, some members would get a verse, a chorus, ad libs, etc. these are called line distributions, Dinah does not have lines for Sledgehammer and Boss but only appears for the chorus and harmony. because of this, she has 0% on the line distribution
yo full disclosure, at the time, i really thought, to be quite honest, i still to this day think it's actually Dinah's voice & management somehow made them do some kind of switch during live performances with Dinah & Camila, i really honestly thought Dinah was on the "ooh whoa baby" adlibs after the hook verse😂😂😂😂sorta like how they pulled a Miss Movin On switch where Lauren sang the verse "I broke the glass that surrounded me, i ain't the way you remember me, i was such a good girl so fragile, but no more" on the official released version but Ally does the verse during live performances...
Honestly, how these girls were treated was just foolish. They are so versatile and they should have played into that. For example, when you look at K-pop groups like Twice and BTS, they have 7 or 9 members, everybody gets a part. BTS even has solo numbers within their albums. The people who managed them were just very limited in vision and I think these girls might have stuck together if they just had more creative freedom and a place to showcase their talent.
Yeah! I don't understand why individual members of the groups can not also have a solo career while also being in the group. Why is only one member "the chosen one"??
So sad to think that even in 2023, "Harmonizers" are still pitching the girls against each other. When will they understand that the 5 girls were part of a plan, and you hating just proves they were right. They were so young when they were together and it's just sad to see how everything unfolded and how every "fan" is still bitter about it.
BLACKPINK has the same problem. Lisa always has to rap, they don't ever give her any song that suits her vocal range. So whenever their songs don't have rap parts, she only sings like 10 seconds
That's her role in the grp. She's weakest vocally so I'd understad if certain parts are just not suited for her vocal range. She can't hit high notes. It's a non issue because all if not most of their songs have a rap part..
“Playing pretend manager”… if I had a group I would rather them be a group of people that know each other… let them know I don’t expect for them to be together their whole career but if they wanna make a mark… give me 3 to 4 solid albums… and I also wouldn’t want more than 3 people 4 at the max…

@@moonlightespt3818how do you know they haven’t experienced it? Were you there? Both bands were mistreated, perhaps Fifth Harmony more so than Little Mix (possibly, we don’t know for sure) but definitely Little Mix didn’t have it easy.
@@moonlightespt3818 bruh being a woman in the music industry, it's tough for everyone, especially if you have a distinct vision. little mix had their battles and were mistreated, 5h were just mistreated 10 times more.
And pushing Camilla to the front. People always want to cuddle her, ignoring that all the girls suffer from bullying. Let's not talk about Normani, who got really racist remarks back then. But because there are some clips of the members "ignoring" Camilla, so people took it as Camilla being the victim always.
@@moonlightespt3818 little mix had 0 support from their record label in the sense of promo because they were a girlgroup, one direction never had that problem. 5h were pit against eachother by their label, something they don't do to boygroups. reeks of mysogyny either way and dismissing one is doing no justice to women in the industry
It’s so sad that they weren’t able to love being in a group like LM, DC, and FLO. Fifth Harmony had so much potential. I blame those in charge of managing those young ladies. They failed them. They failed their well being. Made them feel low and empty. So glad to see there resurgence!
I felt like all of them were stars, but behind the scenes, there was so much going on, and so many issues that some of them faced, not being heard on records, pushing Camila as the star of the group, even normani facing racial backlash and feeling left out by fans coz of her skin color it was so much going on behind the scenes that I'm happy some of em are speaking out about how they felt
Having watched 5th Harmony since X factor auditions, it was always insane to me how little Dinah Jane was feature on the songs. She was arguably the strongest vocalist in the group, and she didn’t even feature prominently in any of their singles until “Flex”. Bananas. I’ll always remember her absolutely destroying “If I were a boy” at like 15 years old.
Same. Her audition stood out to me the most, and that's why she was my favourite throughout the show.
I met Dinah at an event and she's just lovely and sooo sweet! Really down to earth and I respect that so much! And she got some vocals! Love her!
She was my favourite vocalist in the group I ❤ how far she’s come
She’s the best where as normani is the weakest
Loved them all but Dinah will always be my number 1. I loved the way she rehashed her 5H memories. Both the good and the bad while being classy and not talking trash about anyone.
I really feel like they punshed Camilla to the front. They wanted her to be the face of the group. They really buried Dinah Jane & Lauren who’s voices are actually better in my opinion. I think they felt Camilla was more marketable, she had a uniqueness to her voice but it wasn’t too R&B or too soulful. They didn’t want to turn off their non-poc fans.
if you don't mind me asking, I'm curious to what made you not list Ally? While vocal style and characteristics are of course up for preference, when it comes to the definition of vocal talent, Ally is the strongest in almost every area: skill, technique, range, musicality, resonance, etc (although she and Normani both possess whistle register, Ally has the highest vocal range and Normani can also go lowest)
@@divadreamSimple. Because Ally wasn’t buried
camilla also has the look. Dinah doesn't have that pop mainstream look.
I agree- even as soloists on xfactor, dinah and lauren were the best vocally
@@divadream Honestly I wasn't really a fan of Ally's voice. Just my personal preference. She was just "okay" for me. Although I really like Normani, I like her overall performance ability. Lauren and Dinah Jane's voices got me from the beginning. If you go back to them doing the acapella version of Honeymoon Avenue you will see what I mean.
I met her in Sydney when she came down for the Common Kings Australian tour. God she is beautiful both within and without. She has the best smile. And to top it off, so down to earth. Love her. Love you Dinah..
Dinah is so sweet and definitely deserved more recognition during that time but so happy she’s making music again!
She seems like such a sweet person! I wish her the best:)
I saw Dinah live about 3 yrs ago and she did amazing. her set was short because she was the opener but I had sm fun. she was def underrated in 5h
It's mad how they were treated. They had the same label and management as Little Mix who always shared the songs pretty much equally.
American groups from what I noticed always have a star in the group they make sure is always scene I noticed foreign groups or non American groups tend to always have members share vocals equally on a track I swear American group members are always pinned against each other
@@mircalehughes7412I noticed that too!
The sad part is that when Camila left their label basically disposed of them
i doubt shes releasing an album, its prolly an ep
Does anyone think its weird that NO ONE ( Lauren, Normani, Dinah, Ally) has released full albums since leaving group... i wonder why
Wow, this explains so much. I hate that they told her to tune down her vocals for the records. Dinah's voice sits with the likes of the legendary vocalist so imagine telling Beyonce, Whitney, Mariah, Aretha, etc. to tone down on the soul and power??
I wish they would’ve released more of the unreleased songs they actually believed in and participated in the development of those songs
This is a very important topic. Young people starting out in the music industry don’t realize that If you are signed to a major label or a subsidiary, you may qualify for health insurance though AFTRA. This applies to “royalty artists” as well as session vocalists, and the plan also covers families, not just individuals. Artists who join unions can obtain benefits through their union, for instance SAG/AFTRA, the Screen Actors Guild/American Federation of Television and Radio Artists has a pension and health plan. The music industry will never NOT be predatory on people’s ignorance, however💯💯
I personally know Camila and her mom which is her manager and I will say producers played a huge role but also individually these girls had opinions and a lot happened behind the scenes that no one talks about.
There is always one in the comment section who knows these people "personally" and then go on with the BS. Camila worked her ass off , just say you are a hater and go off. Btw , Roger is her manager. Her mom is not
@@ST-vg3vs it’s not bullshit hun. I could care less about fifth harmony but when you know someone personally you know a lot of what goes on behind the scenes. It is what it is. Ok but Dinah Jane has a a great talking voice. Just by hearing her speak, of course she can sing the hell out of any song she wants to sing.
As an artist myself, BEING TOLD YOU ARE "TOO SOULFUL" means you are TOO BLACK OR TOO ETHNIC for Top 40 and Pop Music. That's Racist AF. Don't ever let someone tell you that
@@justina3766 yup. When you are black or any other ethnicity with dark coloring that sing with power, do riffs runs, and is very skilled...you are told you're too soulful and should be quiet. Soul music is mostly associated with black people and music executives think that sound doesn't sell to the mainstream audience or white people. So, when you get told you are TOO SOULFUL it means YOU SOUND TOO BLACK AND YOU WONT MAKE IT MAINSTREAM OR TOP40. That's why you don't hear R&B on a Z100, Zach Sang or Ryan Seacrest because in their eyes, it doesn't sell.
It is completely racist and it's a double standard when white counterparts like Adele, Sam Smith, and other can sing like that and be put on Billboards, mainstream radio, TV, etc.

@@sirij8784 we know she's Polynesian but the phrase , TOO SOULFUL, is coded as Too black , ethnic thus very racist

Very insightful. I don't know much about her or 5H other than some songs, but she's reflective but not bitter and seems happy moving forward which gives me strength.
It’s them acting like they didn’t know Lauren wasn’t on Worth it… y’all interviewed her 3 times and discussed that cut it out!
her vocals were so outstanding
I loved this group so much, and saw them in concert sooo many times! What Dinah said about only showing pieces of her, felt very true at the time. I always wondered why she, as one of the strongest vocalists of the group, never had any kind of high notes or vocal runs in their early music. I love seeing these women as individual artists now because we are discovering new sides of them. All this being said, Dinah’s audition for xfactor still gives me chills to this day. Love seeing her today ❤
I love her speaking voice 😊
She sounds like she has matured sooo much! Wow.
Their best album musically is the album after Camila left. No offense to her but in that album they finally sounded like a GROUP, you know?
Exactly I Never liked Camila she was always doing the most trying to outshine them Dinah Normani and Lauren ate her up in every way they had way better range and vocal abilities than her. Camila played victim saying she was bullied by them and left out when really she was the main/only star THEY were the ones who got left out and treated like shit lets not forget her racist jokes 😤
@@jessirome96Camila doing great. Now why you girlies not streamed that album when it came out? Camila never acted like a victim. She was also nice inclusive and genuine. So blame the toxic fans than put your hatred for one person here

She still fine af 😍😂. I never got the hype over Camilla when everyone else had much stronger voices. Dinah Jane & Lauren were the most neglected in the group. Besides Normani they both had the strongest voices in the group
Girl what Dinah had massive problems with breathe control on live performances and so did Normani. Camila was the one who always sounded closest to the original track, she’s the only one with multiple billion streams on her songs lmaooo
Normani had the strongest voice? Girl what you on?! That's such a slap on my soul community 😂
@@babymamba96 they all sing better than Camilla to me 🤷🏽♀️😂
This why i got so much hate for the management because it's sad they didn't allow the 4 girls show their talent because they was to busy pushing Camila.
Too powerful? They needed to shut up. Dinah is a STAR.
Dinah was the best live perfomer of the group, lets not forget that - she kept everyone in check with the dancing and many of the girls pushed themselves harder because of her. Im excited on what shes going to bring, but shes the youngest of the group. She can take her time until she's ready to strike back.
She also has a great extension, can't say she is the most recognizable but If we're talking about singing.. she's is definitely the best. Dinah's voice is made for another kind of music, not the one she was making while on the group.
You’re delusional Dinah was always out of breath. The best live performers were camila and normani. Lauren could have been great but she was lazy when it came to dancing.
your a complete idiot, you can clearly see all there performances and see who clearly was the best dancer before all the dancing with the stars began. Dinah is still the youngest of the group she has alot of room and advantage in the industry. No one cares about nomoney or camiloff now they had there moments and are dry in music.@@tatum635
@@mauriziobruscagin4864Ally had the best voice but I never liked her tone. While I didn’t like it I can acknowledge that she had the best technical voice. Normani and Camila were the best live performers (hard to admit that for Camila tho it’s true). Lauren was very inconsistent with her effort and Dinah just didn’t have the stamina but was the second best dancer.
Does she mean that she didn't get any parts in BO$$? OMG whyyy? That's the records fault for not showcasing all of the members. I just remember Camila from that group, but I'm happy that this girl is doing good!
She’s obviously done a lot of therapy. 😊
You know i always felt like they barely had Dinah on most of the songs. Like she mostly did hooks.
I always thought she got the most repetitive part. Like give her something new.
1:44 - if you close your eyes you can hear BEYONCÉ saying that “I am nice on da mic” 😍
That's crazy cuz even though she was "dimming" her light during her 5th Harmony days she was the one I was most excited to see go solo lol
I haven't seen her in mant years. She seems like she's matured so much. There's a calmness to her
I’d love to hear her cover some Toni Braxton
Yess I can hear her sing Breathe Again
I believe it cause Dinah was probably the only one who could sing and could carry

honey they do this to single artists as well, Britney has to adapt her voice to a more nasal version so they could sell the innocent virgin persona, it's not a girl group thing. Even if you were on your own, if your voice wasn't what your team wanted to sell, they'd still make you change it
I miss her so much
The fact that Dinah was being held back during Fifth Harmony is genuinely the saddest thing in the Fifth Harmony Universe considering we only got to see a fraction of her talent, and even that outweighed all the girls (not to say that the other girls were not also very talented but you can't that Dinah was always the stronger powerhouse).
Man her voice would be killer for Asmr!
I never liked Camilla voice. IMO it hurts my head. I prefer a voice like Lauren and Norman and Dinah. More r&b and soulful voices
This is rude af, you must be mad Camila still came out on top even outside the group.

I feel like the producers and whoever was in charge was always trying to make Camila the focus or the star of the group. I don’t think the rest of the girls had a fair chance.
started from x factor lauren and dinah are my fav, these 2 vocal are unreal
So was she or not? She said she was on vocals and backing stuff the she said her voice is not there. 🤷♂️
Are u dumb?
She meant she didn’t have any lead parts on the songs and only did the harmonies on the chorus. So they basically just blended her vocals with the other girls. Just no solos
She is singing the harmonies in Boss, but is out of sledgehammer

yo full disclosure, at the time, i really thought, to be quite honest, i still to this day think it's actually Dinah's voice & management somehow made them do some kind of switch during live performances with Dinah & Camila, i really honestly thought Dinah was on the "ooh whoa baby" adlibs after the hook verse😂😂😂😂sorta like how they pulled a Miss Movin On switch where Lauren sang the verse "I broke the glass that surrounded me, i ain't the way you remember me, i was such a good girl so fragile, but no more" on the official released version but Ally does the verse during live performances...
Did dinah and normani lead he like that off 5h last album or was that a different song if so can someone tell me what song was that😭
Honestly, how these girls were treated was just foolish.
Can’t wait to see your “masterpiece” Dinah Jane !
And there I was just hoping to hear Dinah's soul on the records
wow shes soo gorgeous
Yassss💜💜🖤
Wow her voice matured
So sad to think that even in 2023, "Harmonizers" are still pitching the girls against each other. When will they understand that the 5 girls were part of a plan, and you hating just proves they were right. They were so young when they were together and it's just sad to see how everything unfolded and how every "fan" is still bitter about it.
She was one of the best singers from the group and they didn’t allow her to shine
why is everyone talking about camila ? 😭
leave my baby alone
I need those glitter flower hair clips
5H was shit when it came to sharing parts. It was so commercial, it hurt.
Part of me want a 5H reunion but after hearing what they been through maybe they shouldn’t
“Playing pretend manager”… if I had a group I would rather them be a group of people that know each other… let them know I don’t expect for them to be together their whole career but if they wanna make a mark… give me 3 to 4 solid albums… and I also wouldn’t want more than 3 people 4 at the max…
We also need to remember that these girls never wanted to be in a girl group from the get go... They were put together.
Dinah deserved more focus. Normani and Lauren deserved more focus . Ally deserved more focus
Why is Dinah Jane not popular? She's literally the next Beyonce.
She deserves better
You can be as soulful as you want in pop music as long as you’re white appearing.
Oh yeah the dinah fans were MAD back then and rightfully so
Dinah Jane sounds so good!!!
Tbh I miss seeing the 5H girls. The producers really forced all the other 4 girls in the background and only let camila shine.
