The 2nd generation will always be my favorite. Unlike today's kpop the songs and dance weren't all the same. It was a sound that western cultures weren't used to so it was bright and something were you could listen and know the group singing because they each had there own sound. Now one group sounds like another. Ive listened since 2008, before it was easy to hear kpop. 2nd generation will always hold a special place in my heart. Jonghyun was my first and last bias. No one can take his place. Rest angel you did real good always.

Many of my favorite songs in the 2nd generation are especially songs from underrated groups
2nd generation Kpop was very much its own thing with its own unique sound. After that, everything sounds like western pop, but in Korean.
All of the group have their own music style, I mean like if you heard this kind of music you can recognize which group they're coming from 😭 2nd generation idols remains legendary era ever. sometimes I feel lucky to experience the era during my teenage life somehow because I'm growing up listening all of their song 🥺

Sorry to burst your bubble but 22 years ago people like myself ( in the UK ) were listening to Fin KL, SES, and Baby Vox, and more long long before GG were even thought off so sorry to say GG followed them, the only reason the first generation wasn't as big is the social media and internet wasn't in its prime, that's why BlackPink are massive compared to GG today

I remembered I was in third grade that time when I started being a Kpop fan, and my classmates always laugh at me because of my music taste. Like what???? This is the golden era where all masterpieces are created. This is era just brings back a lot of memories. I can still recall almost half of the songs here.
Every SHINee song has to be in the list of best 2nd gen songs and in the best songs of all time. Lucifer was the one that got me into SHINee and kpop so ty SHINee

One more thing 2nd gen was literally the best of all the gen they could interact freely do variety shows without being scared of camera , scandals , image and toxic fans I bet there were alot back then but I think less compare to the toxic fans they have in the present state

i miss using my mp3 and listening to these songs on the way to school and/or back. what a beautiful time to live back then, when my favourite groups were still active and lovely people were alive (i miss you so much, jonghyun, sulli, hara).
To see Jonghyun singing "Y si fuera Ella" breaks my heart and always bring tears... not just because the song is beautiful but he looks so full of life and confident, and that voice... such a terrible loss... and will not think about Moonbin... I will not....

When the music and concept still vary. Everyone has their own color and style and succeed in doing so. Nowadays, both the music and style have became too similar to each other. It's just a matter of competition to see which one comes out first. Heavy beat drop is the key point in the songs. It's fascinating to see how the culture has shifted from enjoying melodic songs to enjoying heavy beat drops in songs. I miss 2nd Gen era so much. I spent my youths years listening to their unique songs.

For me this one was the golden age of Kpop. From the music, the groups themselves, up to promotion concept. It was so varied that you won’t ever feel guilty being a stan to different groups or artists at the same time because no one is the same. Each has their own unique appeal. I’m a blackjack and vip by heart but my playlist was ever changing almost every month and filled with different songs by different groups. Missing this era so much.

K-Pop has changed a lot over the years since I’ve been listening and if I’m being honest this Generation of music overall has a better feel than it does these days. I’m not here to bash on the current bands because I do like a few songs that were made recently but in my opinion the vibe with these older songs seem better.
I glad that my idol now Seungkwan from Seventeen teach Carat to know more about K-pop history and make me know and familiar with gen-2 of K-pop... I was fans of K-pop since 2010 but I only listen to Super Junior, SNSD, SHINee, f(x) and other big 3 artists...
This video really help new fans to know more about K-pop history and respect anyone who is already in the industry before their favorite exists even though they didn't stan old K-pop generation. Because even though now you are already more successful than them but you never been in this level without the role of HISTORY.
Golden Age of Kpop
Kind of sad there's only Mirotic for TVXQ. I have seen Rising Sun performed in covers... and Love in the Ice used as a contest piece or even a cover. I hope they get more coverage in the future. They deserve that, too,
The most exciting kpop years for me for sure. Infinite was the my ultimate bias but you couldn't help but like other groups and songs too. Watching music shows and music awards were worth the lags and late nights. Also I need add that Wonder Girls dropped iconic hits, never forget Tell Me, Nobody and So Hot!
Fell in love K-Pop 2008, BIGBANG were the 1st and then 2ne1. I remember i hid it and didn't tell my friends and when they knew it they looked at my like i'm from a different planet. "You're listening to this, you don't understand what they're saying"
Now some new fans be like: "3rd gen paved the way" You serious? You don't need to like 1st gen or 2nd gen but learn the history.
You can't imagine what struggles these idols and their fans had back in the days. We had to wait for weeks for the subs! You think MV's in 1080p existed? Fancams were blurry as hell. So please just be quiet!
But i also feel very emotional the last few weeks i've seen a lot of 2nd gen fans, seeing comments and sharing their stories.
It's amazing to see that these 2nd gen idols brought so many people together, we're not that active as before. We got married, we have jobs, we got babies and we all took different journeys but one thing we all share is the love for the 2nd gen and they'll always be part of our lives, no matter what...
2nd gen kpop means a lot to me since it reminds me of the friendship that I had with my high school mates, how we loved to sing and dance to the songs in our classroom during break. We all now live separate lives and left those innocent times far behind. But I am also glad that I have those memories.
*Also, I feel a bit sad watching this video thinking of Jonghyun, Sulli, and Goo Hara. Hope they rest in peace

As Playgirlz, I feel a little sad that there is only one AfterSchool song on this list 😛 but overall, wow this brought back so many good memories! Every song is so good, I absolutely loved this era. Even discovered a few on this list that I missed when they came out!

songs back then were genuinely catchy and enjoyable and didn’t sound so corporately produced like you can see the distinctness between all these songs and groups. i mean even the intro song by cross gene is so much better than what i hear nowadays
3rd gen and succeeding generations are now enjoying the "luxury" from the fruits of labor of their seniors, from conducive practice rooms, bigger company building, and especially the spread of hallyu across Asia, the building block to help it reach the Western countries at present. It's unethical to disrespect the 2nd gen idols and discredit their contribution to the industry just because new and younger groups have surpass them i. e # of wins in music shows, million views in UA-cam, downloads in Spotify etc.
I didnt listen to kpop yet when these were new, but the overall sound reminds me of high school, which is how old I was during all this. Definitely some in this video I want to check out 👌🏻

But back in 1999 I worked in the Ukraine and met some Koreans it's how I got into kpop and when I came back to England I found
5 radio stations that played kpop so you see kpop didn't start in the west in 2009
Just because you were brought up with kpop does that make you special 🤣😂 my sons were brought listening to kpop and they are in their twenties now, but so what if you were brought up with kpop doesn't make you any better than the fans of today, because they were not brought up with it they appreciate it a lot more ,
The problem with the fans from the second generation they think that was the start of kpop I bet 99% couldn't even name 5 groups from the first generation and the second generation had huge fan wars so in your own words yes 2009 onwards was a battlefield

@@justluvit1 Speaking for myself, I did my research when I got into Kpop & u’re right. Kpop was around before the 1990. It just got the internet/global attention in the late 2000s, it’s now mainstream/trendy in USA. I want nothing more but respect & positivity in the Kpop community like it use to regardless of when someone got into Kpop. Thank for sharing your story, it was great😊.

Suju is the only group which is super versatile.. apart from their group activities, each member has their own solo or sub group activities from duo groups, trio groups, editing,directing,acting, variety etc.. And all of a suju memebers are super active in variety shows and they don't make people get bored of their craziness... No other idol group has all their members good at variety shows...

@@brennathecatlover4360 Nope. Kpop is an industry, and it’s just an umbrella term. In kpop there are soooo many genres and sub genres. Pop, edm, r&b, hiphop, rock, ballad and the list goes on. For example the group Stray kids alone have 32 different genres in their discography and they’re only a 3-year-old group!

2nd Generation's also called Golden Age of Kpop, even without good internet nor social network they crossed boundries outside Asia, THEY TRULY PAVED the way for the new groups and set records. Some kids must do their research before talking bullsh*t. RESPECT THE LEGENDS OF KPOP 💎

@@justluvit1 truly but here in South America we got our first taste with 2nd Gen groups. The only acts who were internationally known from late 1st Gen were Queen BoA and Rain and because of kdramas that started on the local tv on our countries. The hayllu wave really started around those years.For instance, I love Yoon Eun Hye but her group BabyVOX wasn't that known. It really shows the impact of the k-acts between the early 2000's

Even in state g.o.d is well known and they r 1st gen. I think 1st and 2nd gen introduced kpop to overseas, bcs they spread kpop without good internet, i remember when i collected magazine to catch up with them😂 they r the real who paved the way

I've got into Kpop in year 1998, and I've listened to lots of late 80's (Late Shin Hae Chul, Lee Moon Sae, Yim Jaebeom etc) and early 90's Korean songs (from ballad like Park Hyo Shin, Sung Si Kyung, rock ballad like YB, Flower, Kim Kyung Ho, Emarald castle) then start with Kpop Seo Taiji era, Roora, Turbo, Cool, Twotwo, H.O.T, Sechskies, G.O.D, R.ef, Taesaja, S.E.S, FinKl, Shinhwa, Jewelry and many more..
Yes, it was a very interesting moment when being a part that witnessing the evolution of the kpop from only around Asia to worldwide.. Yes, the early generation is the one that paved the way and it was all started all the way from 1st generation (but maybe just certain country know them) I know that Late Shin Hae Chul is the one that bring the experimential rock from west to SK (from late 80's). Lots of big names now like JYP, Yoo Hee Yeol (TOY) etc went to western country in early 90's to learn more on music and with their talent they've created so many masterpiece in Kpop music industry..
But in 2nd generation, this is where Kpop started to be known worldwide.. started from early 2000 where BoA, RAIN, SE7EN, TVXQ, BigBang, Wonder Girls, SS501, FT Island, Suju, SNSD, SHINee, 2ne1, Fx, Brown eyed girls, 2PM, 2AM, IU, Infinite, After School, Miss A, 4Minutes, Mblaq, Ukiss, Beast (Highlight) and many many more~ this is the time where Kpop was known globally, this is when people get to know about the big 3 agencies (SM, YG & JYP) and they started to have so many world tours...
I really2 miss the 2nd generation idol interactions and how they were like one very big family, support each other although from different labels, and the fandom also always looking forward to the collaborations between group/labels... sadly started from 3rd generation onwards, there are so many toxic fans (not all but many) that somehow makes the idols have to follow extremely strict rules, and they're not free to be/ show their true self in public..
