The Tragic History Of Bosnia's Greatest Monument | Tjentište

Tjentište is a picturesque village and valley in South-Eastern Bosnia which is known primarily for its monument to The Battle of Sutjeska (Case Black), a battle in which heavily outnumbered Partisan forces broke through against the Nazis and turned the tide of war in the region. Designed by Miodrag Zivkovic, Ranko Radovic and with frescoes from Krsto Hegedušić, it is utterly spectacular. Yet there is a reason why the only bus there is small, rickety and irregular. This is a monument that some in Bosnia find to be an inconvenience.

my great grandmother was wounded in the leg at The Battle Of Sutjeska. She was a partisan fighter. I visited this spomenik last year and it met an older man who's father fought there as a German soldier. Surreal moment. Cool video man, excellent writing.

When we talk about Yugoslavia you must know that all the battles against Germans in WW2 were fought on territory of Bosnia and Hercegovina.Not only did Tito fought Germans he also fought Serbian Cetniks ,Croatian Ustase and Italian Fashist state.
