Ruth Gordon as ma is one of the funniest characters in the movie special when she takes on the dreaded black widows I love her God bless her rest in peace Ruth
I think there's a strong argument for the Every Which Way movies being amongst the most purely fun pieces of cinema ever made. Nothing comes close nowadays. Villains like The Black Widows were so superbly played.
*@John David* ...and _Trinity Is My Name,_ and _Trinity Is Still My Name_ (1971 & 72) Right on, man! Thats the good stuff. _Massacre at Ft Holman/ A Reason To Live, A Reason to Die_ is another good one, but its Bud without Terrance this time I read somewhere that Bud & Terrance (both native, fluent Italian-speaking Italians with very American alias names & American accents) did 40 movies together in the 70s & 80s, before Terrence took up a long-term gig with an Italian police drama series. From there Bud moved onto other film projects, too. UA-cam has several Hill/ Spencer movies, but Ive only gotten around to 5 of them
Gosh this movie brings back memories. I lost count how many times I've watched this as a little kid, still a good old classic for a good laugh. They don't make em like this anymore do they? According to my mom, my favorite movie when I was little 😆this scene NEVER gets old 😂😂😂
Ruth Gordon - after all these years she still puts a smile on my face. she stole every single scene she was in; on this film and the sequel (any which way you can).
I can’t but wonder if the filming crew and fellow actors died laughing at this scene. Her face in some of the scenes are just so organic that you can’t help but wonder if she was truly having a ball with it
There was no one like Ruth Gordon. From the very first time I saw her in a movie, I couldn't take my eyes off of her. She is literally one of a kind. There will never be another like her. Rest well, Miss Ruth Gordon. I hope to meet you when I get up there!❤
Every now and then I'll think of this movie and this particular scene. I saw it in the theater when I was ten and laughed so hard I never forgot that moment.
Ruth Gordon Jones superb and hilarious in these films.. Perfect for the role.. In her early 80s (82 roughly) in this and the sequel (84 or there about).. Wow stalwart workhorse.. Legend..
That music too everytime they showed up. When the cops were cracking up in the follow up movie when they got tarred, wearing the clown wigs- crimes against humanity. I lose it everytime. I remember the entire theater busting when Ma pulled the shotgun. Good stuff.😂😂😂😂
Watched this for the first time in god knows how long, probably the 80's as it was on tv a lot here, but got it on DVD year or so back and watched it again last week, and still hilarious as ever, and hilarious as it was, Ma was the star of it for me, so hilarious and the way she took out the black widows, haha
And yet, with a budget of $5 million, it grossed a total of $104.3 million in the United States and Canada, ranking high amongst those of Eastwood's career, and was the second-highest-grossing film of 1978.
I remember going to see this in the theater as a kid...😂😂😂..man the entire theater was in tears most of the time. It was great fun in those days to go to the movies..
John quade the leader always plays a badly in a few eastwood films I think he's grate love his face rember reading in real life very religious man brilliant actor
This was probably one of the best scenes of the whole movie don't piss off the old lady especially when she's got a pump shotgun. Looks like the guys came by to cheer her up that way she can have a little target practice.
I STILL love and cheer for those "Black Widows". We all knew, from the first time we saw them, they had a tough road ahead of them. But, they never gave up, and they had (quite possibly) the best intro music in history. I bet even the "Del Fuegos" could admire their efforts! lol
I like later on when they find that sleeping old man and one if the guys says "it's just one old man" and the leader says "yeah it was just one old lady"
You'd be hard pressed to find a senior citizen who kicked more ass than Ruth Gordon. And funny?? The woman was absolutely hilarious. Thanks for the video clip my friend, funny stuff!
@@LazyIRanch Did you ever hear of her adventure on a date with George Bernard Shaw. He had come to New York for the opening of his play Pygmalion. The night ended when they were arrested for frolicking naked in a central park fountain.

The actor who played the leader of the Black Widows was eventually kicked out of movies because he refused to take the LORD'S name in vain. A good man with good character.
I always liked that guy, but "in vain" I don't believe references "God dang it!" this, etc., as everyone has always thought, but more to do with vain having to do with vanity. Christians that are always using God's name to let people know that they're one with God, while inferring that those who aren't are perhaps not as important, etc. Phrases like, "Go with God", "God bless", God willing", etc. always make the sayer sound important. I don't believe in a higher deity, else why does a stadium full of kids die of hunger every night around the world (?), but if I were God, I wouldn't care if people cursed, or cursed me, but I wouldn't want them to get uppity. Nobody likes that and it would "cheapen" what God should stand for. Something to think about. Alex in Montana
Walt backed three gangbangers off his lawn with an M1 rifle, & later backed down three wanna-be's on the corner with a .45, & never had to fire a shot, because they knew he meant business. Ma blew up two Harleys & ran off a dozen bikers with her twelve gauge, because they didn't think she was a threat. Seniors are tired, touchy, & don't give a damn, & if you cross the line, they'll open fire. And everybody, including the cops, will figure you asked for it & had it coming, especially if it's a little old lady. Now Ma, she won't even take shit from the DMV, so if you don't wipe your feet and say "Yes, Ma'am!" on the spot, you know your ass ain't worth a plugged nickel.
