I agree with building the door to the side and not in the middle. Putting in a window is a very smart idea you want light in that area and it will make the area look larger and give it a more open feeling from inside and out. Sorry David! ❤❤
I think you should put the front door straight in front of the original door as you would then have more room on one side to do more with! Love both your enthusiasm! Xx
Despina’s way of placing the entrance door makes more sense because it gives you a whole side of the room to use so you can put a sink, cupboards, a bench, a coats hanger etc. You have to think of it in terms of functionality (and a bit of aesthetic because the doors not aligning would look odd)
I like Dessi’s idea for the door. You’ll have more room on the inside if you put the door off to the side. House doors are never symmetrical. Whatever you decide it will be amazing. You both are so great at everything you do!
Puppy is always by Daddy’s side hoping to help with chores. I love how wonderful all the animals are so content living with such wonderful parents. Love you all! ❤️😻🥰🐈⬛🐈🐓🐕🦺🐑🦢🐣
Hi from Brazil. Keep the door where it is and leave the side space free for a counter/bench/coat closet. Don’t forget to leave a trap door to access the water pump. I like the idea of the upstairs bathroom. I am a huge fan, by the way.
I too think that it would make better use of the mud room if you have the left side bigger for a bench and some storage. With the door in the middle you will not have room for a window in the front. With that big solid door in front ( u can’t see who is at the door) but with a beautiful color glass window next to it will give you a grand entrance still be able to see who is at the door.
Why not put the door towards the corner of the house, on the side of the extension... That way your maxing out useable space and you dont block the view out of the Window... Could even consider a small roof over the entrance that way
No 2 comment from me: I think the door to the side. I absolutely love your new doggie❤ she’s having such a fun & interesting life now! Where is little Evie? 😊🇦🇺
Large or small, I hear that on any farm and Homestead the work never really ends. I appreciate so much for how the two of you really do push yourselves in getting the necessary things done and try being as innovative, and as creative as possible on a tight budget. May the two of you continue to be happy and blessed with good health, growth, success and prosperity 🙏💖
Dessy is correct, sorry David! That way when you stand away from the house they'll be windows on both sides of the door and A Lot more usable room inside. Great job that took a lot of energy and strength from you both, I'm sure you are both worn out!
I vote Despinas plan --- a door for the entrance right in front of the interior door with a window next to it -- I nice weather you can set a cute removable bench or chair in that area -- I do love Devids Idea of making a bathroom above that area --- That will be sweet! -- You are both such hard workers and I love seeing all the progress -- Kaeto looks so happy with you and it makes me smile everytime I see her sweet face
Love the idea of a door to one side , we have a porch with a central door it’s such a pain wish we had gone for a side door no wasted space .. or like me putting to much stuff behind the door it won’t open properly 🤣😂. So proud of you both , you really did push on with the work . Take care of each other xx xx
Great job!! I like the idea of the door on the left and window on the right. That lets in light, and you will have more room on the right for boots, hang coats, etc. Maybe some wood trim that reflects the design of your current beautiful wood door. ❤️
We did what you did. We are older, and did a completely DIY restoration of our 250 year old New England (USA) house for 24 years. (We are still doing more!) No UA-cam; Hubby had to do it all and have a job, and he still does. We've done it all, and I am very proud of us. Did it on a budget and salvaged a lot of period materials for free. I would keep the door inline with the inside door and have your counter/shelf/closet or whatever to one side.
Hi there, well done with your build. I would put the front door on the side wall, the wall coming out from house on the left side (as you facing the house from the front). If you put the door directly opposite the current front door, it might form a wind tunnel into the house. You will also have more workable space in the bootroom. Xxxxx
I think U should put the new door straight up to match the old door. Gotta mention that some times watching U 2 working so hard, U make me feel really old and tired lol. Enjoyed, thank U. 😀🙂❤
I would put the door on the same corner but other wall. Like you’d walk in and turn left to go in the old entrance. Would also make a great area outside in that corner for a beautiful covered porch with two back walls.
If it was my house I would want the two doors to line up. But I also see David’s vision. Truthfully, I don’t think either choice would be wrong. Both would look nice, in my opinion.
Here in Alaska mud rooms are really common. There is usually coat hooks all to one side of the door, a washer and dryer, and a drying rack and table for gloves, hats, snow shovel and boots. If you put the door in the center, you really cut down your usable wall space for the coat hooks and bench or shovel space.
If door isn't going to be straight out, put in on the left side of the building, and left side of the door, if facing house, where you're going in, in front of that window to the door on the house.
I agree with others... the door needs to be inline with the original entrance. It makes sense to have a wall that you can hang lots of coats and hats etc on the wall to the left when you enter in. And yes, a window to the right is perfect as well.
On the side with a window and coat rack on side. I love symmetrical buildings but in this case you get a better flow and better area to make a semi-mudroom!!
I think that keeping the door to the left side with a big window would look great and give you a lot of light. This would give if only the illusion of being a bigger area. love the 2nd floor bath idea. As always you two are so industrious and talented, Love watching your progress.
My idea would be to build a large double looking rustic door that would be centred but only one side would open and the other would be a fixed wall (but look like a door from outside)that way you would be able to centre the bathroom window upstairs too. You two are a amazing young couple and I think whatever you end up with will be great.
Hi,. You could put the door onto the left-side wall of the entrance hall, in a 90 degree angle from the current position. That way, you could create a porch with a roof into the corner of the new extension and the old building.
If you make door lined up with your front door...it woul dbe easier to get things inside. If you make door centered, you may have difficulty getting things in/out.
If you have some chalk, just draw on the floor. Add cabinets the correct depth and then you can see the space left over. Both door placement can be made to look great.
Another job well done. You are right in being proud. You've achieved so much already. You made a mistake in asking your viewers.🤣 You will get hundreds of different opinions and still don't know what to do. I prefer your idea with leaving the door in line with the old door and putting a window next to it. It makes it easier to put storage/ furniture in. Can't wait to see the finished entrance. Good luck doing the space under the roof. You've cut your work out there.
You might like to consider putting the front door on the left or right hand side closest to the wall/building, then have a big window in the place you both thought of having the front door. This will give you another place to sit and enjoy looking at your farm. It might be different having a front door on the side but if you have it on the front you will have a lot of dead space that could be used as a sitting room. You both are doing an amazing job.
Hey guys! I just watched the video of your first day at the house. Boy, it has changed a lot. I can't believe it has been two years since I started watching your videos. We are going into winter here in the USA also. I am trying to get some concrete projects done also before it gets too cold. I hope you finally got the well fixed. Stay safe and warm this winter.
Build the door inline with the existing door, then put a window to the right. Being offset or not centered will still look good. It will also give you the room for the table and storage on the right side of the mud room, which would be better. Finally, if you walk through the mudroom at an angle you will end up with two triangle areas and be much less efficient in the table/storage. Good luck and keep up the hard work, your fun and inspiring to watch.
You won't like this, but the answer to your dilemma seems to be to extend the base to the left (facing your house), so that the front door is central. Otherwise, the front door should line up with the house door.
You both are amazing! That was alot of work. I am so excited for your project, can't wait to see it done. As for the door, I think it should be aligned with your existing door. You can always plant a rose bush or something climbing on the right of the new door to try to make it look better. It doesn't have to be symmetrical. Maybe plant two climbing vines, one on either side of the door. Then the difference in space on either side won't show as much. Or put a trellis on the left side to make it look wider. There are many ways to make it look symmetrical later. I would definitely align the doors so you can walk straight out of the house. Keep up the amazing job you are doing!
Love your videos but have you finished doing the inside of the house as you have both done yourself with no contractors.keep the door straight in front of original door
I think the door in front of where it is now with a window to the side will make for a better entrance and bigger work area to the side. Guess I agree with Despina.
Well done you two! That was a lot of work and it looks so nice. I'm glad you are proud of yourselves because you SHOULD be! I'm proud of you too! This one really made a huge difference already. Love ! ❤️
I would have the door in the side wall on the left as you face the house. Perpendicular to the other door. Place it as close to the house as possible to maximise the space in the mud room. Put just a window in the wall you were talking about.❤
Put the door in the same position as it is now in the new spot. For ease of coming in and out, it just makes sense to keep it in the same position and have more room on one side with a window for more light.
Put it in line with the original door and allow yourself maximum flexibility. It will look fine. You may need to align the above windows. the other idea, door in line with a window to the side so the front has a door on the left and a window on the right (you are standing outside.) Then align the upstairs with two windows that align with the door and wind below.
I personally will put door not in front but on right side of the wall in the middle ..so this way you create huge storage place inside. You guys are incredible. I love your projects and everything you did to this point.
I think lining up the doors would be better because you are going to have more of a bigger usable space along with light from a window. Daveid’s way you will end up with 2 small spaces on each side and they will look cluttered very fast.
I would either put the door straight in front of the previous door, OR on the short wall beside it (off where the porch currently is), creating a large amount of L-shaped space inside the new entrance space. it may create a bit of awkward outside space leading up to the front door, but it'd give you two full walls of windows that don't face the wall of the house. and I'm sure you could do a nice walkway with pretty flowers to make the walk-up beautiful
I would put the front door directly in front of where it is now or, on one of the other sides so that when you enter you go right or left to the front entry door and put a big window in front to allow lots of light and room.
Keep the door straight and the traffic flow smooth. It will give you much more usable space. Last year we had a new porch put on and moved it slightly from the old one. The door is now in a more direct line and it works SO much better.
I agree with building the door to the side and not in the middle. Putting in a window is a very smart idea you want light in that area and it will make the area look larger and give it a more open feeling from inside and out. Sorry David! ❤❤
I was thinking at the side of the house on the left or right by the window of the house 😁
I agree
Why don't you leave the door where it is and extend the entry to include the window already next to the door?
I think you should put the front door straight in front of the original door as you would then have more room on one side to do more with! Love both your enthusiasm! Xx
I agree with you 💯 👍
Yes! I agree they are lovely young people ❤

Why would you put a sink in your entry??? Front entry should have place for coats and boots, but not a sink.
@@petpilgrimgoose pay attention...
@@petpilgrimgoose it’s a mud room🙂 Many people have a sink to clean themselves up (and sometimes their pets too) before they go in the house.
I like Dessi’s idea for the door. You’ll have more room on the inside if you put the door off to the side. House doors are never symmetrical. Whatever you decide it will be amazing. You both are so great at everything you do!
Door to the side you then have a nice bench space to sit in before you go into the main house.
If you put the door in line with the existing door and put a window beside it, it won't look off center. The window will balance off the symmetry.
The woman is always right. If you have to bring things in it will be easier especially big things
It's great having so much rubble for that job
The porch is sloped towards the house. I would correct it so it slopes away from the house
Love your new dog.
I’m telling you y’all are the hardest working two people I’ve ever seen in my life. Never a dull moment at your house.
Puppy is always by Daddy’s side hoping to help with chores. I love how wonderful all the animals are so content living with such wonderful parents. Love you all! ❤️😻🥰🐈⬛🐈🐓🐕🦺🐑🦢🐣

Despina's idea for the door is the best one. Nice idea of the tower bathroom.

Center the Front Door and Widen the Old Opening to match the New Door
If it were me I'd probably have both doors lined up. Even though it wont be centered I think a window might help.
Despina, Your idea is great for the door and entrance.
If it was my house I would want the two doors to line up. But I also see David’s vision. Truthfully, I don’t think either choice would be wrong. Both would look nice, in my opinion.
Place the door were it is most sheltered form the winter wind.
Yes.
Straight out the original front door
Hi!! Greeting from Bolivia!!🇧🇴🦙
Here in Alaska mud rooms are really common. There is usually coat hooks all to one side of the door, a washer and dryer, and a drying rack and table for gloves, hats, snow shovel and boots.

I agree, put the door in front of the other door and put a window on the side. Good luck 🍀 guys. 🥰❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If door isn't going to be straight out, put in on the left side of the building, and left side of the door, if facing house, where you're going in, in front of that window to the door on the house.
I love this build. An enclosed portico is such a great design on any country home where you need a mud room and a bit of storage.
I agree with others... the door needs to be inline with the original entrance. It makes sense to have a wall that you can hang lots of coats and hats etc on the wall to the left when you enter in. And yes, a window to the right is perfect as well.
As an owner of a similar farmer's house in Latvia I find this channel extremely inspirational! Way to go guys! Sarauj Latvija! 😎
Cant you put the door on the side with a bigbwindow at the front?
I can see that your days never end! Ugh. Some day.. some day, it WILL get easier! Take care you two!!
Looks nice

Big Glasfront sounds good👍
I agree with Despira’s idea of an off set door. It makes a larger surface for decorating as well as shelving etc......
If you make door lined up with your front door...it woul dbe easier to get things inside. If you make door centered, you may have difficulty getting things in/out.
If you have some chalk, just draw on the floor. Add cabinets the correct depth and then you can see the space left over. Both door placement can be made to look great.
I think putting the door in line with the existing front door provides you a lot of useable space to hang your coats in cupboards for your shoes also.

Another hard day on the farm. You two work so well together. Really looking forward to the next phase of this project!! ♥️🥰♥️
Hello Do&BE 👍👍👍
I agree! Put the door to the left and have the right and a mud room. Leaving your shoes and coats there.
Very hard workers love your enthusiasm brilliant

You won't like this, but the answer to your dilemma seems to be to extend the base to the left (facing your house), so that the front door is central. Otherwise, the front door should line up with the house door.
I would definitely put the door by the wall. Having a straight through entryway would be a lot easier. Can't wait to see your finished project.

nice idea 💡 🥰
I agree with Geraldine👍
Love your videos but have you finished doing the inside of the house as you have both done yourself with no contractors.keep the door straight in front of original door
It will work out either way you place the door, even if it goes on one of the two new side walls. Draw all options out to scale then pick one.
I vote for the door to the left, in-line with the existing front door.
Maximum use of space.
I for looks it would be better centered.....BUT ... I think you will appreciate the counter and storage room more. 🙂
La puerta enfrente de la otra y a su lado una gran ventana 👍🏼 un trabajo excelente chicos 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💚
I think the door in front of where it is now with a window to the side will make for a better entrance and bigger work area to the side. Guess I agree with Despina.

Build it on the side wall so that the wind has to change direction to go inside for winter. With windows to allow cross ventilation in summer.
Have you thought of putting the door on the side with a big window right in front.
You two make me tired from watching you so busy all the time..😄
Put the door in the same position as it is now in the new spot. For ease of coming in and out, it just makes sense to keep it in the same position and have more room on one side with a window for more light.

You worked so very hard guys...well done...really really well done...

I would put it on the side and make it look huge with the window on that side. A nice lit area will make you grateful for years to come.
I am loving the two story entrance idea for the house.
I personally will put door not in front but on right side of the wall in the middle ..so this way you create huge storage place inside. You guys are incredible. I love your projects and everything you did to this point.

This is exactly what I have been trying to say
Definately a door where you want it Des! Without a shadow of doubt.
Brilliant music, as ever.
EXTRAORDINARY!!!!!!!
I agree with Desi's idea.
Definitely keep the door straight. I believe that the interior space will be more efficiently utilized and the exterior will be cementric.
Great work looks great.
My opinion for the door is keep it straight. Gives you more useful room on the other side. Just add a window 🪟 🤗
WOW... THATS A LOTTA HARD WORK... HOPE YA ALL SLEPT WELL... LOLOL!!
You go you guys you have it going on i need to do this to that i want to do where i live ..love you guys love watching
I like center door.
Keep the door straight and the traffic flow smooth. It will give you much more usable space. Last year we had a new porch put on and moved it slightly from the old one. The door is now in a more direct line and it works SO much better.
