  • Assembling Ascend Scupper Mount Kayak Cart
and the modification to fit my kayak .
the kayak cart only had one locking hole adjustment aside being able to adjust it with the plastic locks .
i decided to drill new holes to lock it into the size for my kayak.

Bro....you unlatch the plastic tabs and slide the wheels closer to or farther apart to fit your yak... the metal pins are simply to keep the assembly together.

+Joseph Dixon yeah i knew they were adjustable with those plastic latches but i prefer they lock in like the first adjustment when putting them together it seems to be more sturdy that way.
      thanks for watching

For those who are considering the FS12T or 12T with the Ascend cart, please know that you do not need to modify the cart for it to work properly. The author of the video might have his own reasons for modifying the cart, but just know that it is not required in any way. I have had my FS12T on the same cart shown in this video for 3 years. It required no modification. My friend just bought a FS12T, and also got the same cart. It requires no modification, and will not come apart without you pulling it apart purposely. I sized mine for the kayak one time 3 years ago, and have literally never had to touch the adjustment clips since that time. I use my kayak several times a week, and have wheeled it over all sorts of conditions. I have not been kind to my kayak or the cart, and they have taken the abuse like a champ.

Jordan Moore yes I modified the cart cause I travel over rough terrain and the adjustment clamps don't hold it good enough . The cart is a universal cart but the settings are not stationary like the first setting with the pin I did modify at as I wasn't content with the retaining tabs if you read the previous posts it was already established that you don't need to modify those but like you said I did it out of preference

WARNING: Absolutely no need to do this at all. It adjusts to fit perfectly without drilling. The lever to adjust the width can be tightened. I've used the cart 100+ times with no problem. Read the instructions that come with the cart and save yourself the headache of cutting or drilling a perfectly made cart.

Have the same problem with this cart on my FS128T. Thanks for the video.

After watching this,I think I'll forego buying a kayak cart and instead build one from materials bought at the hardware store..
You did a good job with the refit..It's criminal they can charge over 50 dollars for what amounts to an unfinished product. You should wrap some sponge, noodling or some old rags and electric tape, around the bungehole bars for a snug fit,to protect your boat..Carts like these tend to damage the insert, insulation might help.

Joseph Melia The cart is perfect, works great but all you have to do is adjust once when you get it and then you're set.

I saw a different video and the guy didn't have to drill on it.

Shawn Groh actually the issue was I had higher expectations than what the manufacturer provided along with the sales associate at bass pro who sold me the cart and recommended it for the the ascend ... what he didn’t say was the cart shifted around due to the weight of the kayak that it altered the sizing that was preset for the cart. What I did was make it sturdier and added a setting for my kayak spacing of the scupper holes so the cart would lock in place .
I knew it was universal but I was misinformed from the vendor .

It's a shame you had to modify it to get it to fit. I'm seeing more and more of that crap. If you had bought a universal trolley, you might expect something like that but I would, without a doubt be calling them. They really NEED to know about such things. They probably have them made in China or Bangladesh and don't even know about the bad fit. Thanks for sharing.

Actually It is supposed to be a universal cart but I didn't like the fact it didn't have a locking setting to adjust for the width of my scupper holes . It has a tab that folds over to hold the spacing but I feel it is a fragile piece and without the locking pin setting that it may have failed over time so I decided to modify it by adding a few holes for the lock pin to engage so it would be sturdier .
Being the fact I bought the ascend kayak and cart you would figure they would have accommodated a lock setting for this model kayak .
I am happy with the purchase though , it's a great product cart and kayak and I've put them both to the test

It's a universal cart. It works on my buddies prowler, a friend's Hobie, it's adjustable.

C Zellner Guys, This vidio started out bad when the individual opened the box with a screwdriver. You know, like the proper tool for the job! Then again leaving the instructions in the plastic. Then again that screwdriver as an awl. Don’t think too many people will follow this video author because of the way he did thevideo. I know I won’t.

There is always people the first to judge make some smartass comment. I agree if you paid for the product new why would the manufacture not drill the holes in the correct spot. I shouldn't have to drill a hole when they can measure. I know the counter argument "well not every yak is the same size, different lengths blah blah blah" how about drill numerous holes for all sizes...

hi everyone , if you all want to see some of my stupidity .... between modifying the universal cart so i trusted the structural integrity to not practicing safety... please watch this video ua-cam.com/video/vMaQ_M8MXmQ/v-deo.html it shows what happened to my finger ... you should always use a vise when drilling ....i learned that in vocational school when i was 14 .... but who am i to follow rules lol ! hope you don't have a weak stomach !
