    I always wondered if you used a rabbit to test a rabbit for a pregnancy test. LOL Bobby I raised rabbits probably 35 years ago I averaged around 30 rabbits a month and I have learned more from your vids than I ever did in raising rabbits for 10 years. Thanks!!!!

    Bobby, I am having the hardest time knowing for sure my rabbits are pregnant and I have 3 does. I tried Palpatine and no luck. 2 look like they're gaining weight but I can't tell if they're just over weight or pregnant and one of my does did start gathering her hay and stashing and pulling fur but this is day 3 since she started that and I'm just not sure . Any avenues of chatting with you for help.

    Hey, very informative video, thank you. I'm new to palpating and still practicing. Not sure if I'm saying this correctly, Do you feel one embryo with both fingers like holding a marble like this,👌. Or do you just run them along the uterus on both sides at the same time?

    I just did our first breedings so I needed to see this. Thank you. I am wondering though why even bother if you can just wait another 15 days and if no babies, then you know. 🤷🏻‍♀️

      Palpating is a tool that not everybody uses. It’s an ever developing skill that helps you reduce wasted time so your rabbitry stays more productive. The bigger your production is the more you’ll want to develop this skill feeling developing embryos. It’s not that important if you don’t have folks with reservations waiting for rabbits.

I was wondering if she may have gotten preggers with him before I separated them, as she looks fatter. Advice? Keep up the great instructional videos:)

    Another quick tip to see if a rabbit is pregnant is if her poop pellets get bigger over the first 2 weeks, I've never palpated in 20 years of having meat rabbits 95% of the time they are pregnant and if they skipped well oh well, if you have several does your not starving for meat. Nice rabbits!!!!

  • @LadyTSurvival
    @LadyTSurvival 4 роки тому +3

    i just got some rabbits to breed for meat. one older female he says is pretty much washed up. he rebred her (he said) the day before i took delivery of her. and four babies. two of which i am sure are female and still need to sex the other two. have two cages built right now and some more to be made soon. will be looking for a buck as soon as i have another two cages made. the female babies i plan on keeping and the males are for the cook pot. the older female is going to get a 30-45 day break from babies after this litter (if she is bred) i think he bred them hard. i feel she needs a small break. and if she doesnt improve i will get rid of her. he said she only had 3 kits last litter. i plan on keeping 3 females and 1 male as my breeders.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  4 роки тому +1

      Yea the older does will have 2-4 kits and that's it. You can try a different younger buck to help things but she has her limits and it may not make much of a difference. You might want to make one extra cage and get another doe when you're ready for bigger litters.

      @@TheRabbitryCenter i have two or three young baby does. trading for a buck that is not related to them in a couple of weeks when he is weaned. I only got her because she was destined for the cookpot and he said he would re breed her one last time before i took her. omg she has attitude hahaa. she gets pissy when you arrange her cage. she tried to dump out the feed and then tried to flip the plywood platform board i have in there. lol but she did like the sticks i put in there for her to toss around. which she did. they all get a couple of leaves from the trees every day as a treat. i figure since i am feeding plain alfalfa pellets then they need trace minerals that the leaves provide . the young ones are getting friendly as we handle them daily so that when the girls are big enough to breed they arent hard to handle.

    Bobby, after much frustration with my rabbits, which I hope can be a colony someday soon, the three virgin does are not wanting to lift for my one viable experienced buck. There are many things can I have already tried, but there are still a couple that I have not. I have locked the doors to the buck's and the does inside, separately, for 30 hours and never witnessed a fall off. I have let both bucks, one of which doesn't even show interest in the does, roam free on my floor, with the only virile Buck chasing all three does and trying to mount them, only to be thwarted by each. I have tried apple cider vinegar in the does water bottles, and tonight I will be trying the rubber band tabletop method. I feel like my only remaining option would be to take them outside in a small portable enclosure. Which brings me to my question.
    Is it possible to tell if a doe is pregnant by the color of her vent?
    To me, a kind of seems like it would be easier and less invasive if I could tell by color, but then again, I am a man and do not present myself as I would know. I would hate to injure my does trying to read their bellies for babies, I am a big man and sometimes do not always realize my strength, which always made me nervous when lifting my children, and now my grandchildren, let alone these little bunnies growing in their mother's belly.
    I am just a super apprehensive about feeling these little tiny rabbits bellies for even tinier ones...
    What do you think about the color idea? Can we tell by their vents whether they are pregnant or not?

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  9 місяців тому +1

      her vent will show you her hormones, and indicate the estrous cycle, but not pregnancy - in the palpating video, we discussed several different ways to tell and the correct timing to safely palpate to avoid injuries.
      -when you get a chance i’d watch the video again and I would just take notes. This really helps me remember when doing things.

    My rabbit should be due for a little in about a week and ever since I mated her and waiting for the 2 week mark to feel for baby’s I can’t seem to locate them but she’s putting weight on and her belly is a little harder and bigger but still can’t seem to feel this could this be a sign that she is pregnant still and her behavior has changed aswel she’s either wanting to be stroked a lot and her belly been rubbed when she lets me or she bites me all the time for no reason

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  6 місяців тому

      palpating takes a lot of practice. you can try weighing on breeding day and weighing again 3 weeks into gestation to see if she’s gained weight. best of luck with your litter.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  4 роки тому +1

      I'm sorry I probably could of slowed down a bit. I really have a hard time re-watching my videos because I just can't seem to stop talking fast. It drives me nuts. You'll be able to feel the embryos at day 14. Once you're past 14 days of gestation the abdomen will start to harden making it more of a challenge to feel them. So 10-14 days is a really good time to palpate. Hope that helps. Thank you for asking.

    I have a question that maybe you can help me with. I’m trying for a second time to breed a growling, uncooperative doe. I never saw any fall offs the first time. I checked her vent then, and it was pink, but not particularly dark. I don’t remember pressing down.
    Today her vent is pink and when I pressed down the inside is purple-red. Receptive and uncooperative or already pregnant? I don’t think I’ve ever seen/read anything about how the vent/vagina looks if they are bred? 🤔
    I’m getting ready to take her out and try again this evening.
    She’s been with him a couple hours, and I’ve been out here with them the whole time. Thanks for any insight.

    My male rabbit got out while my female was out in my room about 33 days ago. She has been pregnant before so i recognized a lot of the same signs/behavior changes and she even built a nest. I marked on my calendar what the 31st day would be but were past that date and she hasnt had them yet and im starting to get really worried. Is this common or Is there something I need to do?

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  3 роки тому +1

      It sounds like a false litter
      Sometimes it may take 32 or 33 days but a female encountering a male doesn’t necessarily mean the pregnancy will happen but it will cause the female to go through a false litter. Pulling fur and acting pregnant. I’d give it until day 35 and call it- at that point id rebreed the doe if you want a new litter.

      Angoras are so cool. A lot of work but to some so worth it. I'm glad I timed that right for you. Wish I could say it was all part of my master plan but I just got lucky. haha. • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  Рік тому

      Thanks for asking? I introduce a nesting box on day 28 or 29. That way they don't use it for a bathroom prior to nesting and mustaching time. Also just in case the litter comes a couple days early it prevents losses(kits born on the wire).

      Hey Johnnie my name is Billy from Far-Mar Acres. We have a 60 hole commercial rabbitry that we maintain and make a good passive income from. Regarding your cages for your future rabbits, I would recommend hanging all of your cages. This allows all the waste from your rabbits to fall to the ground for easy clean up. The rabbits are healthier and happier. The problem you will eventually run into when using wood is saturation and buildup from the rabbits waste. Not a good thing when trying to raise healthy rabbits. Build your ALL WIRE AGES in what we call 8 packs. That's 4 cages back to back. When hanging you are also able to have a automatic gravity fed water system for your rabbits, using a 15 gal tank. Great time management system. If you would like more information send me a txt. I'll send you pics of our setup that might give you some ideas. 620-605-4699

      Hey johnnie, It sounds like you'll be busy farming soon. There's lots of options when building your coops and hutches if you do choose wood it doesn't matter if it's treated because they won't get to it and it will be covered. We did use untreated pine in the runs because they can chew that. If you do use wood like we do be sure to power wash in the spring. This gets all the fecal matter off and you get a fresh start for the year. It's important to keep the bacteria levels down to maintain a healthy environment. I'll be uploading a video showing how we do this when we get some warmer weather. Thanks for watching.

    Would you agree that "trophy taking" is a pretty good sign that she is pregnant? What I mean by that is the buck takes a bite out of her fur during falloff. If you fail to see the falloff because you turned your head for a moment, if you look for a hunk of fur and find it. He very likely had a falloff.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  4 роки тому

      I wouldn't put too much stock in that. Bucks are so eager to get a doe to lift they'll bite and push and tug to try to get her to move. Sometimes she just won't . Try the same rabbits the very next day and she lifts. I don't really get discouraged when I don't see a fall off I just keep trying until I see it. Sometimes it just takes a different buck or an older buck. But I won't mark the calendar or stop the breeding attempts until I see them.

      In some states it’s illegal to sell rabbits under six weeks old. With those prices it sounds like it’s a pretty easy choice to go with whites.

    Good day I have breed 3 does, it's way past due date, but I'm nothing the babies moving around in their bellies, should I wait to see if they have kits thanks

      Wait until day 36 to breed again.
      Be sure to feel their stomachs for firmness and wait a few days longer especially if you see any weird behavior like not eating, hay mustaches and nest building. Hopefully your buck isn’t temporarily infertile. This can happen when they get too cold(-10 or below)
      or too hot (95F and above) best of luck with your litters
