  • The Nazis were responsible for introducing the public hair shaving practice during the 1930s. During the Nazi era, thousands of German women who consorted with Jews, Poles, etc, were publicly shaved, humiliated and paraded through the streets by their own countrymen. German women who married Jewish men were also subjected to similar acts of public humiliation during the 1930s. Unfortunately, the Nazi shaving practice would later be copied by people living in Nazi occupied territories at the time of their liberation in 1944. However, it was important to bear in mind that it was actually the Germans who introduced the shaving practice into Europe in the 20th century.
It is important to distinguish the fact that in Nazi Germany, these public hair shaving acts are state sponsored; while in recently liberated occupied countries such as France, Holland and Denmark, public hair shaving acts are NOT sponsored by state authorities, they were in fact condemned by the state authorities. Instead, they were mob activities carried out in a state of anarchy. In Nazi Germany, public hair shaving lasted from 1933 to 1945.
