Why would whether you vote depend on whether you're "in a red state"? You only get one vote. One vote won't be pivotal in a state of any colour. A second issue is this: I think you might be suggesting that you'd see more of a reason to vote if you were "in a blue state". Is that because you would be able to convince yourself that you're part of something important if the team you voted for won? That bandwagon mentality is a poison.

Illinois native, 84 now, I first learned of Bernie from a August 1963 Chicago newspaper photo showing a policeman "helping" him to the ground for marching against segregation. As a mayor, representative and now US Senator, he's been on the right (correct) side of every issue most important to me since then, including civil, economic, environmental, gender, racial and social justice, and peace. No one is perfect, but I'd vote for him and campaign for him, again, for president, in a New York minute. #NotMeUs

I do not understand how any person living on, or anticipating going on Social Security, could vote Republican at the Federal, State of local level. I do not understand how any woman could vote for any Republican, regardless of their purported denial of supporting the ending of Roe V Wade. Finally, I do not understand how anybody could vote Republican who is now on any prescription drug.

Another thing: Make sure you look up your sample ballot and research *every* question on it! The House/Senate are undeniably important, but do you know who's running to be your state's secretary of state? county clerk? sheriff? state legislator? school board? Depending on your district, not all of them will have their party affiliation listed. And what about ballot measures? Even if you're not in a swing state, these elections can be competitive, and can affect your life just as much as the congressional results.
I agree. We must never ever ever let the political class take our votes for granted and we must do absolutely everything we can to protect the power of each citizen's vote. The far-right Republicans' attacks on democracy can only be countered by the people coming together to shake off the various chains they have been putting on ordinary citizens' voting rights and the Republicans' sordid and dangerous flirtations with violent right-wing extremists must be stopped. This is a trend evident in all Western democracies as well as America. I want to see the politicians too scared of us all to do anything but serve our interests instead of almost exclusively serving the interests of the monied few in the backrooms. Let the Republicans come up with policies that serve us and win our votes fair and square or lose until they do offer policies that serve us and let the Democrats see what eventually happens to political parties that fail to serve us in practice as opposed to theory. Above all, let us ensure that the unelected 1% who use our politicians as puppets and decoys, so that they can continue to exercise unaccountable power and so accumulate more power and wealth, are taught that we all see their divide-and-conquer games and that we are united in our determination to pull them into line at long last. That is the message we must all send loud and clear, starting by giving Joe Biden the clear Congressional and Senate majority he needs since as well as telling the Republicans off, this will deny the Democrats ANY excuse for failing the people again. Shame on the 1% for corrupting our politics, shame on the politicians of all parties for being corrupted, and most of all, shame on us if we let them continue to get away with it. What Bernie and you are suggesting, John Chessant, are practical steps we can all take to get this done.
I think a good part of the problem is monopoly business practices are allowed to be too greedy. Our national natural resources should not be privatized companies with the ability to leverage our whole economy against larger profits. These oil companies are prolonging the stresses on our democracy on purpose(republicans). Big oil is far too BIG

Bernie has been telling it like it is from the very start… always stays on message! Why are we not in his second term right now???
Because the people he now defends destroyed his campaign. Don't you know this? They preferred Trump over a real progressive, especially since a real progressive's success would mean waiting eight years instead of four to promote one of their insiders. And now he's been convinced that the best he can do is to strengthen them even more (and therefore make it even less possible for the next Bernie Sanders to succeed). Pelosi said she wants a strong Republican party. She wasn't just pandering. She realizes that if the Republicans weren't empowered to do terrible things (which they will because they're largely powered by the spite of their base), the Democrats wouldn't have a way to confuse their base into thinking they're heroes in comparison. Their kleptocracy depends on showcasing people like Trump and other Republicans (Need examples? There was a pretty big story a couple of months ago about Democrats funding Republican campaigns.) and subduing people like Sanders.
Thank you for your commitment to progressive causes. I've been encouraging my Dad to start voting blue. He's as much fed up with those at the top walking away with all the wealth while so many of us can't afford healthcare and are suffering high gas prices and high grocery prices. I have hope I'll be able to change his mind by making him aware of the tactics the republicans are using to attempt to divide us.
