That's... That's really nice. I miss the gritty sound of 90s muddy rock, and very much so that of early PJ stuff. Didn't think they'd go back to that sound, but I absolutely love it.
I think I understand exactly what you’re saying. I think there’s nothing wrong with this song either, but a little of that early 90s angst, grit, and piss ‘n’ vinegar injected into it would be nice. ….it would be nice for the *rest* of us to have it too…35 freaking years later.
The spacing between lyrics and guitars is all but 90's lol. That's 80's actually and they would never do it back then for sure. Nice song but PJ days are long time gone: Ten, VS and Vitalogy ... those were the days! Dave Abbruzzese days lol
@@MrCroky123 The rest of the album is much better imo. I think Eddie likes to pick singles that are more modern sounding. absolutely amazing ❤ new pearl jam fan here and this is the first time i got to experience a new song release, and im even more excited for the full album to release!!
Drum clinic by Matt. A couple of listens… Like Stone & Mike are driving the tempo/rhythm and Matt’s doing the riffs until Mike scorches his lead. Concise “today’s reality” lyrics delivered by Ed. Jeff keeps it all fenced in. Congratulations men and much gratitude!
Just wish the drums weren't sampled triggers. I loathe the sound of them. I don't think there's a mainstream band in existence with real drums on their albums anymore.
Not quite a " clinic" by Cameron...just a lot of snare and toms not blended together with hardly any cymbal or High hat work , per usual..metronome..Mat should be driving this tune...and he is lagging severely, per usual...I hope the rest of the album proves me wrong...hope!
@@jasonfricke2814 I understand where you’re coming from. Felt the same way about some Gigaton tracks. However, I was astonished when I saw them play cuts live. Matt strikes me as a Stewart Copeland from The Police. Seems everyone liked Dave, so did I. However, Jack Irons would get my vote.
Irons was sub par in my mind..he was out of shape physically when he was with Pearl Jam, he could not drum effectively, and by his own admittance too. I've seen all the drummers live, and there is just no comparison to Dave. They are less of a band without him. Watch any live show with Dave on the skins...especially their MTV UNPLUGGED . There is just no way any of those two come close.
I disagree, Matt Cameron is wrong for this band always has been. He is technically great so maybe a jazz band is a better fit. They need a groove/funk drummer.
But he's basically the best musician in Pearl Jam, Matt is one of the BEST drummers in rock, although he's underrated, he's incredible even if he's simplistic, he's an animal when he played in SoundGarden, and another super talented member is MikeMCready, the rest are very lukewarm, even Vedder (who is the weakest vocalist in Grunge) @@amatisme8085

@mh11281 for sure some "You Are" in there. I recall they experimented running the guitar through a drum amplifier to give it that percussive, stecatto sound. It worked great then and works great here too!

Steal the lights from our eyes
Take my blood from my heart
We're in all of this dark matter
Take the breaths from my chest
Take the thoughts from my mind
We're losing time, dark matter
[Pre-Chorus]
Denounce the demagogues
Came down into discord
Deploy the dialogue
Your word against the law
[Chorus]
It's strange these days
When everybody else pays
For someone else's mistake
This blame takes shape
Still everybody else pays
For someone else's mistake
[Verse 2]
You're running away
We're pulling apart
In all of this dark matter
I once heard a sin
And it stuck in my head
Arrested the press
No one knows what happens next
[Pre-Chorus]
Renounce the demigods
Came down into discord
Deploy the dialogue
Your word against the law
[Chorus]
It's strange these days
When everybody else pays
For someone else's mistake
This blame takes shape
Still everybody else pays
For someone else's mistake
[Bridge]
No tolerance for intolerance so I've
No patience left for impatience no more
No love lost for lost loves
No sorrow for the unaccountable

It's strange these days
When everybody else pays
For someone else's mistake
This blame takes shape
Still everybody else pays
For someone else's mistak

That's... That's really nice. I miss the gritty sound of 90s muddy rock, and very much so that of early PJ stuff. Didn't think they'd go back to that sound, but I absolutely love it.
?
Sadly always the single form album is catchy but then the disappointment comes...
The 90s are the best! There’s a bit of a Soundgarden feel to this one, too! 🎉❤🎉
@@5thPROJEKTdefinitely in the guitar riff
I think I understand exactly what you’re saying. I think there’s nothing wrong with this song either, but a little of that early 90s angst, grit, and piss ‘n’ vinegar injected into it would be nice.
….it would be nice for the *rest* of us to have it too…35 freaking years later.
It's always amazing music from this band. Over and over. I am glad I had the chance to experience PEARL JAM!!
It's 90's vibes once again. Keep rocking guys! 🤘
I listened to the album today and I'd even go as far
as saying that "Dark Matter" and "Running" are the most out of place on the album. W/o going into a full review I'll say that the album sounds closer to Yield and Vs in most
songs. If PJ released "Waiting For Stevie" as the debut single we'd be having a different conversation for sure.
@@Doc_Valparaiso , thanks for the analysis. I'll try earing it full in the next days.
There is nothing better than new PJ music (well, besides seeing them live). I hear some Soundgarden-like sounds, especially Kim Thayil, in the guitar parts. Good gosh does this hit hard and fast...I love this direction and them not slowing down. Cannot wait for the album! Still loving and supporting you 33 years later. Thanks, guys for literally everything. 💚
I can hear Kim too
Yesssss, I feel Soundgarden in here. I feel exited again to be a Pearl Jam fan
Yeah definitely can't wait for the new album 🎶 🎶
I actually get Mother Love Bone feels from it, really taking it back to the roots.
That's an idea though, why not get Kim Thayil to guest on some tracks?
Good old PJ. Still rocking. Greetings from Ukraine
I love this song so much! I am 12, almost 13, and I am loving rock music! So glad Pearl Jam is still making music! Yeah rock on
heck yeah buddy!
Check out falling in reverse brother... popular monster is a good start
Pearl Jam still going strong!

And tour announced for this era too!
Let's Go!
@@luisdias1171 I´ll Be in Lisbon too! Siga!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember telling myself that pearl jam will be one of these rare life long bands like rolling stones, or U2. Pearl Jam and Green day are the only groups from my era that's still going strong.
Pearl Jam is not the band of a generation, it's the music of a generation.
Awesome, I’m excited for the new album 🎶 💿 🎤 🎸 🥁 🤘🏻 😁
HOLY SHIT! WOW! That McCready solo!!! So good y'all

MAGNIFICO!!!!
I love that song...
It gives me soundgarden vibes!
I love PJ.
Damn, I wonder why it sounds like SG... almost like they have the same drummer or something😂
What an amazing song. Love the new sound guys!
F---! I can't stop listening to this. Just what these times need. Mike's guitars keep getting better with every album. Definitely loving their unexpected surprises since Gigaton.
We were just listening to Gigaton last night, entirely unaware that this had dropped! It’s like we could sense a disturbance in the Force. 😂
Hah! Same here. Except, to be honest, I never stopped listening to Gigaton since its release 😂
Seriously, this is what we’ve all been waiting for! Thank you Pearl Jam for continuing to blow our minds and fill our hearts with joy!!! Your music & words have kept a lot of us going through this unkempt world, and we thank you for that! ❤️🎼🎤🎸❤️
Matt Cameron savage drums!
Sounds pretty tame to me....3 second drum loop played over and over...
NEW PEARL JAM!!!! LET'S GOOOOOO!!!!!!!❤
Eddie… you know this will be huge. And not Trump HUGE.
@shellylavigne5913 "you can't deny me"
Aggressiveness is back. Sounds like an early/mid 90s outtake I would have downloaded off Scour. Awesome.
Exactly!!
PEARL JAM I LOVE YOU!!!! MIKEY BOY THAT RIFF
I have been following these guys since 1991 and I think this sounds like old Pearl Jam with a modern twist. For me, their best release in many years. I cannot stop listening to it. 💕
Hello, how are you doing? It’s nice meeting you here. Thanks for your unwavering love and support❤️🤘🏻You have yourself a wonderful day ahead 🌺🌺🤘🏻
This album is going to kick ass !
We hope so
@@angelfalcao1386 i hope too
Not if this song is indicative of the album.
This is usually what happens. They release a decent song then the album comes and it's unlistenable.
@@danwarzecho6901 This is not a decent song. It's shit. Gigaton was awesome though!
I listened many times on UA-cam and Spotify. In some ways, it reminds us of the past, in some ways it gives us the speed of our time. More energic more electric and much more PJ! The best PJ song I've heard in the last few years! Thank you guys!
absolutely amazing ❤ new pearl jam fan here and this is the first time i got to experience a new song release, and im even more excited for the full album to release!!

I am holding of happy tears! Pearl Jam is back and that makes me so emotional.
There is so much going on in this song, so many winks and nods to the past….Brilliant!
Finally..
Heard it on the radio, I didn't know Pearl Jam before but now I can't wait for the album👀
Huh. It's pearl jam. 32 + years of pumping out classics!
How old are you? I’m jealous if you’re really young and have this new album plus 11 others to discover.. good stuff regardless 🤙🏻

Can't wait to see Pearl Jam in November!
Rock music desperately needed this
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Yeah...ok..
He drums on 2 and 4,... 2 and 4 ....2 and 4.....come on Matt!...you gotta be better than this???
Pearl Jam never disappoint! 🤩🤩🤩🤩 Great song! What riffs! One of my favorites bands ever!! ♥️
I've been a PJ fan for 34 years...PJ has defined my life in so many ways. New song sounds amazing...you guys rock
Matt Cameron killing it on drums! Amazing guitars too. Great song💯
I disagree, Matt Cameron is wrong for this band always has been. He is technically great so maybe a jazz band is a better fit. They need a groove/funk drummer.
dat drummer ❤
@@amatisme8085I think pearl jam, temple of the dog and soundgarden would beg to differ… but whatever man.
@@amatisme8085 Abbruzzese has been fired nearly 30 years ago, isn't it?
I literally had to sit down after sitting and listening to this. Amazing drums, amazing guitars, amazing vocals, amazing energy. Hurry up April ... Thanks PJB
Great guitar solo to close out the song!
Greatness 💖
I am so happy with this song. The greatest American rock band of all time releases another banger. I love being a Pearl Jam fan. They always deliver.
I think Metallica is the greatest American band. But PJ is close
I agree Pearl Jam Is
I feel it describes the predicament and sings the irony so good
Everybody else pays for someone else’s mistake!!!! Oooohhh so true!!
That sound reminds me of Riot Act, expanded in an awesome way. And Mike with a ripping solo to close the song on such a crescendo! It rocks!
Agreed. I think you and I are the only ones. I don't hear as much Vs., Vitalogy, etc., as much as I do Riot Act.
@mh11281 for sure some "You Are" in there. I recall they experimented running the guitar through a drum amplifier to give it that percussive, stecatto sound. It worked great then and works great here too!
The lyrical themes are very reminiscent of "Riot Act."
I remember when Ten came out and I fell in love. Riot Act is my favorite album and I can totally hear the guitar work from that record on this track. Love it.
I'm so glad they're still doing this 33 years later.
Back to the 90`s and it´s so good😍. So powerfull!!

This is the first Pearl Jam album I've listened to in a very, very (very) long time. It immediately got my attention and reminded me of their early albums from the 1990s. Such a good, solid album. Well done.
