Just stumbled onto this channel and you might be the only person I’ve ever enjoyed learning guitar from, rock on brother
Woah! That’s high praise, homie! That means a lot. Thanks for being part of the family.
Thanks! You are the best, from a doctor/writer who saw his first show in Lancaster PA 1971 and still loves this music as much as ever. And greatly appreciates your making it accessible.
I know I'm late to the party but fuck youtube's algorithm. How am I just seeing this?!?! Incredible lesson! I'm a major Deadhead always looking for Dead lessons. So glad that I found your channel. Subscribed and hit the bell. Keep it up man, these Dead lessons are going to blow up.
Commments like this mean everything. Thanks for joining the fam, brother!
This is one of the best channels I've seen in a long time. As far as teaching Dead tunes you'll eventually be the biggest on You Tube. Thanks for all the hard work.
That really means a lot. Thank you so much for the support!
For sure!
He is the biggest at teaching dead songs
Davy your the fuckin man! What a personality
This guy is like the Nick Saban of Dead songs
Love your teaching style and humor! I can't stand learning off the internet....until now. I really appreciate what you are doing.
Your awesome Davvy! And quite possibly clairvoyant. I was just wondering how to play this one as my kids and I knocked back a few Shirley Temples the other day. Thanks a ton. Peace my man.
You the man, Marshall!
Gone are the days when the ox fall down,
Take up the yoke and plow the fields around.
Gone are the days when the ladies said' "Please,
Gentle Jack Jones won't you come to me."
Brown-eyed women and red grenadine,
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down,
And it looks like the old man's getting on.
1929 when he stepped to the bar, drank to the dregs of the whiskey jar.
1930 when the wall caved in, he made his way selling red-eyed gin.
Brown-eyed women and red grenadine,
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down,
And it looks like the old man's getting on.
Delilah Jones was the mother of twins,
Two times over and the rest were sins.
Raised eight boys, only I turned bad,
Didn't get the lickin's that the other ones had.
Brown-eyed women and red grenadine,
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down,
And it looks like the old man's getting on.
Tumble down shack in Big Foot county.
Snowed so hard that the roof caved in.
Delilah Jones went to meet her God,
And the old man never was the same again.
Daddy made whiskey and he made it well.
Cost two dollars and it burned like hell.
I cut hickory just to fire the still,
Drink down a bottle and be ready to kill.
Brown-eyed women and red grenadine,
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down,
And it looks like the old man's getting on.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pourin' down,
First time watching this channel, and bro, you are fucking lit Dawg! I don’t even wanna know how dope the other homey is gonna be, wait, YES I DO!!! BOOOOOOOMMM BABY!
Hey Davvy,
For the past 2 days i have been wanting to learn this song but didnt get a chance and then I was also wondering what song will you play this week and whoopie! Its brown eyed woman. Synchronicity at play hehe.
Thanks a lot brother. And what is that song, just before the bridge. I heard it a long time ago but dont remember anymore.
Great minds think alike! And the song is called "Send Me on My Way" by Rusted Root. It was featured in the movie Matilda. haha
I appreciate your videos. You give great breakdowns in a super entertaining way. Learning Dead songs on bass and your channel is very helpful. Thank you!
I tend to use the C shape A on the 12 fret, hit the E with a bar on 9th do a lil Bobby sus hammer pull on the B string then I am right there with Jer’s chromatic move on the D string to the C#min on the 11th fret. But I am lazy and like every thing close.
Dude what variations of the chords are you playing when your thumb is over the neck e.g. the C#m; B and A in the verses? Bar chords not sounding the same..
Hey, first time here. Really liked your teaching style and the post is solid.
This is why we shoulda never dosed Meyer. Look at what hes turned into!
Dude this is some high quality shit right here. I wish I could gift you subs like twitch lol. Rock on my man!
Discovered you this past weekend and am hooked. Absolutely a great teacher! Subscribed! Cheers!
Huge fan bro.. just found your page I'm in love the way you set it up give good humor and have a great time
I only learn, play Miley Cyrus...just here for the jokes
Not sure which I like more: how easily you make teaching the Dead seem or how much fun you have doing it. Regardless, I really appreciate both. Cheers
I really appreciate this, Jared!
can't get the chords to sound the same as when you play them not sure why seems like ur fretting is diff than normal
Awesome. Love it. Way cool. Great job!!!
Brown eyed woman is a kind of whiskey
Awesome brother. Thank you for another solid video this week!! Looking forward to watching Jerry’s Acoustic songs on here soon!
Over time, I've become very fond of Davvy's sweet singing voice. Love the channel
Funniest lesson I've ever seen. Hats off! I have become more and more deadhead over the last months and the Cornell '77 version strucked me last week. Keep it up Davvy! I'm subscribed and loving it dude
Welcome to the fam and thank you for the support, Nacho!
DAVVYYYYY....GREETINGS & HALLUCINATIONS....
Love the channel. Been a Dead Head for a long time. I'm 67 and the old fingers are not quite a flexible as they once were. But, I can still strum out the melodies. Keep up the excellent content. Shame the you don't do any New Riders of the Purple Sage. Rock On!!!
Calm down!! I know :) 😂😂
MORE BRUCE HORNSBY LESSONS
Love this channel! Keep making videos, the subs will come. Your next Play Dead should be Eyes of the World.
Ya nailed it. Get this man a beer.
do the stranger,homie
WavvyDavvy! Freegin love this channel more than all these homies (not really but I like to think I do). It’s been a total game changer to watch your breakdown and the humor alone makes it incredibly fun. I’m even considering flying from Rado to you to catch a live performance that’s how much love I have for this channel.
Question: what makes (if anything) you choose which song you will teach next? Is there a method to this madness or is it pulling a number from a straw hat? Keep this love flowing brother, we love it!!
You talk way too much lol.
MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON
Just a thought for Flashbacks...Dazed and Confused. Really close to my high school experience, think y'all would dig it
where was this UA-cam channel 40 years ago, when I was smoking all that weed, and playing the guitar 12 hours a day.:). fun channel, great tune, thanks for sharing.
Super helpful - i feel like my walking bird zzz bout to fly !!! Hey!! Can you do an acoustic tutorial on Victim of the Crime ;) it's nowhere to be found & would be supa helpful + one guy does a UA-cam acoustic that can be useful + cheers
Love your vids!
Grenadine isn't alcohol and nor are brown-eyed women but they both mix with it real well (is I think what Mr Hunter was getting at). Don't know about the dust. Love your channel though.
They’re all just jokes bro. Don’t take it so serious. And you’d be surprised how many people think grenadine has booze in it because of this song. I was making a joke about that misconception.
@@TobyDavvy Ah ha! So the dust was in my eyes!
Love this guy
IKO IKO
Can you do Brown Eyed Women - My Morning Jacket with Bob Weir. It’s dope AF
lesson starts at 2:20 instruction is pretty clear. amusing. Davey seems fun
Thank you for this review, homie.
I LOVE YA MAN
Hey guys, I'm new to the channel. I'm learning guitar and singing in my 50's and short on time. I like the way you break the songs down and make it fun. Thank you.
Dark star
Best Dead teacher on youtube by far. Keep it up man. Your channel will blow up soon for sure (more than it already has)
So funny

Chords
Nah you can get boozy grenadine 😁
I stand corrected, then. Lmao
From the play dead vids I saw this was the most viewed, I was a little surprised for the love on this one. Must be the bridge! Thanks for killin it again my man!
Lol that’s why the call it a Shirley temple. Sprite a grenadine…No alcohol
It was just a joke, homie
@@TobyDavvy you said it so straight faced I thought you were being authentic. Great job foolin this head! I’m laughing now though! Ty!

Hell yeah, Great lessons with a fun vibe. Please do "Aint No Bread in the Bread Box." I love that funky bouncy intro riff.
Man what an amazing coincidence that the best guitar teacher on UA-cam also happens to cover dead tunes!
I’m gonna love learning how to play dead songs from a true deadhead.
Great lesson. I like how u break down all the parts.
Really appreciate the videos. man jamming on this song is a blast! You should do easy wind soon!🤘
Thanks so much man, these are great videos!! I play bass but I'm still finding lots of helpful info in your videos. Respect!
This was the best, most helpful, most uplifting thing I saw today. Thanks bro.
Did i just watching the tutorial that i supposed to learn or something ?
You got me in the first 5 seconds man you're sick
I subscribed before the playing started. “I was really hoping you were gonna drop that late 70s Bobby funk comping. And-- “Brown eyed women”= bourbon and ginger ale or some sort of old soda fountain stuff.
Bring that solo lesson and I’ll boof 25 DM Teas
Welcome to the fam! And thanks for the trivia on BEW, had no idea that was a drink in itself. Learn something new everyday.
Yo I commented early but coming back to say that you are a national treasure. Love how you make sense of the tabs n such from rukind. I have rung the bell. Any plans on doing Rosa Lee Mcfall???
Hell yeah, Patrick! Thanks for being here. Yessir, Rosa Lee is coming when I decide to do the acoustic series.
You’re welcome!! And yes, dmt 👽🤙
Do Ship of Fools (new update to the video that brought me down this rabbit hole). Do some GOOSE man. I’m a dead head and they are my new fav you might like em

DAVVY IS THE MAN BUT WHERE THE HELL IS TOBY? IS TOBY IN THE HOUSE ? OR IS THAT THE NAME OF THE GUITAR? CIRCA '78 DEAD HEAD AND LOOKING TO LEARN ALL THE SONGS THAT WAS A GREAT LESSON BEST I'VE SEEN ON UA-cam.
Yo yo yo! I do the Play Dead videos on the channel, Toby does Loose Beats and together we do the A Drink & A Joint Podcast. Go peep em, homie
Dude you are hilarious. Good stuff.
I don't comment on youtube videos but I hope this helps your metrics. Killer video, killer lesson. I can play this song now!
Means a lot that you commented, fam. Much love.
Great lessons. Long live the dead!
hilarious dude I can tell I prolly should not encourage you but I learned some things too!
Thanks Buddy!
Thanks. I need someone to keep me grounded. Otherwise, my head balloons up and I start to lift off the ground.
@Davvy Bro, when you going to do Dark Star?!
Also, you're fckn awesome for this serise
Dark Star has been done already bro. Go check the playlist.
@@TobyDavvy For some reason I can't find it in the play list. Did find it via the search though, thank you!
Love these vids davvy. Thanks again man
Great tune. Really appreciate what you're doing here. Time to get down with some Cumberland Blues or Dire Wolf.
They are added to the list, my brother!
Great humor and slick editing. Thanks for everything. I first found your EOTW lesson, and can't believe the progress I've made on these two songs.
Congrats on the progress, homie! Keep it up!
Awesome channel and funny as hell.
Thank you this is very helpful man, and the song is fantastic !
Could you give some advice on how to solo over the chords ? It would make the lesson even richer :)
Thanks for joining the fam! And yeah, you can lead in pentatonic and mixo basically in C#m, but try to hit the chord changes while you’re soloing. In my more recent lessons I’ve been putting a little solo example at the end.
Super excited to see this one. I've been thinking about which song I wanted to get into next, and this fits the bill perfectly. Will give this a go, hopefully over the weekend. Much appreciated!
Hell yeah! Rock on, John!
Liked and subscribed. Thanks for being both entertaining and accurate. Looking forward to more vids. Nailed it
Thanks for joining the fam!
The beginning of this video for getting people to subscribe is so funny. Your videos are great thank you.
Thanks for being a part of the fam!
Well this is pretty awesome 👍😎
Legit chops, awesome lesson.
This channel is the best, Davvy, i learn so much and i love the way you teach,,,,,Never stop....
Can’t stop, won’t stop
You sure are a legend!! Thank you
Great lesson with humor and advice. Well done. As for alcohol not being part of Grenadine. Given it was prohibition time, 1920 to 1933, I assume the reference was to the bottle which could have, and most certainly would have, contained spirits wether mixed with red Grenadine (perhaps originally pomegranate) or simply placing spirits into a bottle that could hide the contents of the liquid as it was generally not illegal to consume liquor but it was illegal to produce, transport and sell.
Thanks for the info, homie!
I think the real inspiration for the song is that the people that would hang out back stage would dose things like grenadine with LSD. There is a scene in Festival Express where the train pulls up to a stop directly in front of a liquor store in the middle of nowhere in Canada. The musicians bought out everything in the store. There was even a promo giant bottle of Canadian Club that the owner didn't want to sell, but did anyway. They dosed it and put on this hand pump squirt thing. I think this is the source of "the bottle was dusty, but the liquor was clean". If you haven't watched Festival Express, I highly recommend it.
Ok i decided to subscribe to this channel , your channel is a treasure for deadheads like me
Thank you for joining the fam!
This is absolutely fantastic instruction, thanks for taking the time to do this. I learned a great deal!
Any help you give on that C#M at about 8:30 is appreciated, is that barred with the thumb or is a triad? It is a bit hard to see, although it sure sounds great.
great tutorial but it would make it a lot easier if you zoomed in the the frets a little closer
Thanks for the feedback, homie
You're a cool guy and fun, I love the music but you could cut down on the shenanigans. I think most people would like to get right to the point maybe pace your goofiness towardss the end after people are satisfied with what they've learned... But what do I know I personally was just really eager to learn this song and just wanted to get right to being able to play it for myself.
Nah, we seem to be doing pretty well with the formula we have. Ima keep doing what works for me and what I wanna do. Appreciate your opinion though, bro. I hope you keep watching and feel free to scrub through the lessons to the bits you wanna see. It’s not just a lesson, it’s a show. Just how it is. Have a good one, homie!
@@TobyDavvy happy belated birthday brother!! That's fair... I'd love to learn how to play " they love each other" (1973 version). It'd be rad if you could make a video on that since I haven't seen any other good one's so far.
Thanks, man! And is that the faster one with the different lyrics and the bridge? I love that version and will probably end up doing a lesson on both versions.
real talk
This is my new fav channel. Bam check this out. So funny
Thanks, fam!
when I play this it just sounds off are you using an effect?
Only thing I have on is reverb, homie
Rocking back and forth on that E string is hard as shit lmao
You got this bro bro. Just slow it down if you need to and work that shit out.
Fool
