I think Usa is a pun on the word "usagi" meaning 'rabbit' in Japanese. And Neko means of course a cat.
Usa Manin does look like a rabbit, so yeah, that’s definitely the meaning behind the name. Has nothing to do with the US. Disappointing that Geekdom didn’t know that, but I guess we can’t expect him to know everything

@@puffy_jr7521 , Usagi is a word that you can easily unintentionally learn from just watching a few anime, it isn't something you need to be Japanese or actively studying Japanese to learn. Then again, we don't really know how much anime Geekdom watches outside of the Dragon Ball franchise. He may not be a big anime viewer.
The New I disagree. Anime characters aren’t having in depth discussions about rabbits all that often, so why are you expecting it to be so obvious? I’ve watched a ton of subbed anime and I don’t think I’ve ONCE seen a single character even mention a rabbit

Usa-Majin has nothing to do with USA, Usagi is the Japanese word for rabbit. Usa is a shortened form of that. He is a Rabbit Majin instead of a Cat Majin, thus Usa-Majin instead of Neko-Majin.

I wonder how akira toriyama came up with the designs for dbz 🤔 from round to sharper looking designs. Like imagine you creating your own manga there is no way in hell any of us would come up with them designs and the areas are trippy
The Orange clothing is like Hanuman from the Ramayana and he also borrowed heavily from Journey to the West. The old Japanese paintings that accompany the old legends are identical to goku and gohan in the end credit of z. The shape of the feet likewise are reminiscent to the Chinese paintings and the chubby look of his old style is an echo of maybe astro boy or old kikkaider.

Can you imagine what Dragon Ball Super would be like if they make Neko Majin Canon? Since Buu always falls asleep when important things happen, it would be cool for Z to take his place.
Also Usa Majin's name is suppose to be from the Japanese word Usagi which means Rabbit, hence his design.
I remember Neko Majin years ago when I collected Shonen Jump magazines back in the day, and the only story I had seen was Neko Majin fighting against my hero, Goku!!! In the Dragonball Xenoverse games, when you compose a male Buu character, you can see Neko Majin's ears available in the game. 🎮😎

Finally! A discussion of an obscure Toriyama work.
At this point, after the hundreds on hundreds of dragon ball UA-cam videos I’ve watched. I didn’t think I’d learn something about dragon ball that I’ve never heard of at all.
I remember reading this chapter in a shounen jump at my local grocery store as a kid. I almost thought it was a dream because i never heard anything about it until this video. Good job, bro!
Usa-Majin is a rabbit looking Majin cause usagi means rabbit in Japanese.
I like to consider Neko Majin canon. There’s no real contradictions in the story anymore since Freeza is brought back to life in super. It’s also been established that other saiyans could have survived the destruction of planet Vegeta. I’d love to see this side story animated if we ever get pass the end of z in the anime

@@maganhassan2627 I guess the real answer is that it’s just a gag but if you’re caught up in the manga it make sense if he’s somehow being coerced by Freeza or there could be other reasons that haven’t been explained yet. This takes place after all the events of super, the new super hero movie and the epilogue of dbz.
This is great info! I saw Nekomajin for the first time WHILE WORKING IN JAPAN AT A MANGA STUDIO!! Had no idea that Toriyama was still making manga outside of a Sandland preview I saw a couple years prior. At the time I could hardly read any Japanese, but always wondered about some of the connections. Thanks for answering some of my decade old questions that I haven't thought about since then!! It sucked how little of this manga was translated when I was younger. NMZ was absolutely hilarious and reminded me of original DB when it had felt so different once it made its way into the “Z” arcs (after Piccolo Jr. & Saiyajin arcs)
It was just so refreshing and the art was great. Glad I can at least read it online now.

Buu was reading a Neko Majin manga in DB Super and since DB Super is canon then to some extent so is the Neko Majin character. of course Goku and his friends can't deal with a simple mouse in his house, this is Goku the strongest warrior in the universe afraid of needles and scared of his wife using a broom or mop as a weapon XD
The "Usa" in "Usa Majin" is most likely short for "Usagi", the Japanese term for bunny or rabbit. He is a bunny, after all.

I was wondered who he was but can't read Japanese. I think it would be interesting to tell stories of different points of view from the Dragonball universe. Or just add z to the for in super, but no geekdom no one uses the word trim in that way anymore.
Also maybe this does take place in the future, regular ass sayian can go ssj, freeza has a kid, and they're working together.... But then he meets vegeta whos still working for freeza... Wearing his current outfit... Then goes ssj...awww fuck I started thinking again

Usa-Majin is most likely a pun on Usagi-Majin AKA Rabbit Majin since in Japan Rabbits are called Usagi and it has very rabbit like features I.E Long Ear and Buck Teeth

I'm so glad I actually was able to buy the shonen jump that had the only chapter of neko majin z back in 2007-11(?) I was reading/collecting them back then when it was still in print and I was able go get one from my library! Was reading some of the best in Bleach and Naruto when I found out they were doing that coverage of the dragon ball manga in that issue! Definitely one of my rare and treasured collection to have from the great Toriyama ✌

First off, THANK YOU for pronouncing neko correctly! A lot of people mispronounce Japanese words and it irks me greatly!!
Second, Usa is short for Usagi which is Japanese for bunny/rabbit. Like how Mini Moon/Rini is really called Usa-chan in Japanese cuz she is mini bunny, Usagi-chan/Sailor Moon.

Luckily, Thailand community was a fan of Toriyama's work since Dr.Slump. We have all toriyama's work translate but currently all of it was out of print apart from DGB and Dr. Slump.
Now that I think of it, Toriyama really has a thing with cats: Karin, Neko Majin, Beerus. That's great though, I also like cats.

I still think it's awesome that in Super Dragonball Heroes World Mission one of the alternate stories is the Neko majin and that you can get the Nekohameha as a super attack.

Honestly... I wouldn't mind a more serious manga with this neko majin as the main character. Maybe a dragonball-esque story around Z himself. I could imagine a manga based around Z becoming like One Punch Man in it's absurdity. Now I really want to see it happen.
