My grandparents live in south eastern New York and they have a lot Amish neighbors and communities. Perfectly logical cause Pennsylvania was land set aside for them. I am blessed in that where I live in a very small, rural community in Northeast Iowa - we have Amish farms all around us. Most of the farms have dry goods stores and a wonderful selection of things like raw honey, free-range chicken and eggs and bulk items as well. They are the ultimate in 'preppers' and as I get to know more of them, by frequenting their stores, I am really happy that doing business with them is part of my routine. I feel it keeps me grounded as well. We also have an amazing Amish hardware store and you can get almost anything you would ever need! In fact, I need to go there this afternoon and pick up a new 240v. electric heating element for my water heater that just bit the dust! Only $10. Love their prices too. They don't gouge like the larger hardware stores - and they're very helpful!
Very fair presentation. We live at the edge of a large Amish community, interact with Amish frequently, and have Amish friends. The best summary is sincerity, striving to do your best. The statements about compromise with technology and coping with the modern world are well stated. For another look, I have posted a large number of videos of Amish work parties, 2 long videos of silo filling with steam, many of steam powered sawmilling, and just having fun.
I wish I could live there for a couple of years. It’s not easy to adopt their lifestyle but definitely it’s much better than living in the so-called modern states. It’s like given the option to lead a simple yet tough Amish lifestyle or stay where complicated technology is your leader and stress is what you get!
I never heard of the Amish, until I came to the U.S. from a former soviet block country, 40 years ago. When I learned who they were and about their lifestyle, I felt a very closeness to them. I grew up mostly like them. Religion was not allowed by the government, we couldn't go to church, but the community was like this. We helped each other, we grew our own food, we traded with each other, what we didn't have. We pretty much lived cash free, we paid the doctor with chickens or eggs. I wish, I could live close by them, even if not belonging, but just observing their lifestyle.
The Amish survive by working harder than everybody else and believing in God and family. That's family with both mother and father, with the father in charge, like its supposed to be.

I almost bought a Amish house for sale, But i don't know how to live without electricity. I imagine i could figure it out, sense i am from the country, and have spent most of my life outside. The house was too far from city power to run a line in? I know people who live off the grid and they have battery banks in out buildings that charge on gas generators and, to some extent, solar panels. Solar panels have come a long long way in the past 5 years. look into the project again. You're out of luck for the wood heat unless you can maybe pay to get home heating oil delivered.
@@littlegoobie I knew a guy and his house was 300 feet from the power pole and they wanted $35,000 for a 300 foot run and that was 10 years ago. He used solar and a battery and a generator for backup and he has no monthly fee to pay. I on the other hand have grid power. I installed solar with battery and I started to heat with wood which is cut and split already, but I have to pick it up. The wood for one season is $200 and my only heat source.
@@FloryJohann It was a similar situation for a friend of mine. he needed 50 yards of poles from the main line on a service road. If i remember right, it was $9000 to run the line in. This was probably close to 20 years ago. He had a neighbor in another off-grid log cabin also without power. He asked the neighbor to split that infrastructure cost and they could both have power. The neighbor said he didn't want it. The problem is, once it's done, you can't stop anyone else from connecting to it and that's what the neighbor did.

The Amish still have an Ingalls style life style from the 1870a 1980s and 1990s. Then they used a minimal number of mechanised tools and children went to one room school houses. American farming styles changed but the Amish have kept change to a minimum Laura ingalls Wilder however had a motor car, a fitted kitchen running water , farm machinery and electricity on her farm in Missouri until her death in 1957. In their last home in De Smet, Ma and Pa had electricity and a wall telephone in 1915. Keeping an 150 years old life style is not always a good thing.
A quick question for those who know a heap about armish, and their farming practice: you know how they don't use vehicles, cars, tractors etc with rubber tires. Are tractors with crawler tracs acceptable? I know they use tractors with steel wheels, but I'm just curious

He said in the beginning 'they live without electricity and automobiles" then I see them working with tractors and bandsaws... I respect them but somehow I can not understand them.
tax breaks. most communities are a bit scammy with a religious underpinning. Many of these communities are supported by running modern high tech industrial businesses from those primitive looking buildings.
They have a gasoline engine powering a drive line, to power saws, planers, and all kinds of power tools. Including a small generator to recharge batteries for their cordless tools. The tractors have steel wheels, and all equipment have steel wheels.
All major decisions r about how they effect the family I was one a lot of restrictions some Baptists r more conservative a good way to live it's more romantic being on the outsideooking in than being in looking out but the temptations are the same

I wish I knew how much $$$ was made by them every year simply because the moniker “Amish” is on the label? Are Amish sugar cookies in ANY way better or different than Methodist sugar cookies? I think not!
This is so nice. I wish nobody discovered electricity or invented machines or modern appliances, so that we all can get stuck in 18 century America. No stress, beautiful landscape, fresh air, organic food, etc. Wow this is so good.

It’s weird that they refer to the Amish in the opening as a “utopian society”. No Amish person believes in utopia. The Amish, and other Christian sects, recognize the imperfect nature of man. They believe that man cannot be made perfect in this life, only forgiven his sins. They believe man is made perfect through He who is perfect(God), while Utopianism is the believe that man can make HIMSELF perfect.

an amish family lives across the road from an English farmer . the English farmer goes to school and becomes an engineer. the boy moves to another part of the country , and become to lazy to farm . the English farmer has no sons to work so he sells his land to the amish farmer . and that's how a lot of them spread .

It means they need to be baptized. They don't go in for the pop notion of being "born again". They use the Christian understanding of being born of water and Spirit (baptism).
They can ride in car as long someone else drives it and pays all of the expenses. They can use generators for their home. They can use telephone as long it is on a pole in a shed outside of their home.
I’m afraid I have no faith in any cults or religious movements. We need to look closer to ourselves as humans to make the world a better place..unfortunately that will never happen in my lifetime.
So you don't believe in or trust religious movements?? Amish aren't hurting or shooting anyone, they don't steal from anyone, don't trash towns, cities or anywhere, don't spread bull around unlike today's political movements. All Amish want is what most want, government freedom & left alone. Only the government is screwing up their lives. Wasn't until recently that they would move into vt bc laws & regulations prevented them. Go figure, the state promoting the Green movement wants Amish to use electricity, fuel and modern things they believe causes climate change.
There's a good size community of them not far from me. They get good value in things like that but they definitely spend money too. I don't know what the occasion is, but at the end of the week, I see small groups of them riding on their bicycles. I'm talking about modern, carbon framed road bikes worth thousands of dollars, and an iphone XR in their hands and bluetooth headsets, but they're still in their amish outfits.

Solar panels have come a long long way in the past 5 years. look into the project again. You're out of luck for the wood heat unless you can maybe pay to get home heating oil delivered.
@@littlegoobie
I knew a guy and his house was 300 feet from the power pole and they wanted $35,000 for a 300 foot run and that was 10 years ago.

Hermosos campos y su métodos de aprovechar el campo , animalitos bien cuidados están lindos.

The biggest advantage of the Amish is community. It takes many people with multiple skills and a reason to bind them beyond selfish interests.
"live like a hippie" hahaha! You can tell he has not been out in the world in a few decades.
@Martha Curtis lol, true!
Exactly right. His chances of developing cancer is about 1/3 yours.
Move to Alabama and be a hippy.... LOL
samuel bloch Really , right? I think I may use that word in only one sentence, to describe someone as in, “yeah you know that guy, he’s an old hippie””
They need to give us small farming lessons! Some of us city dwellers are moving to small family farms.
very interesting!
God bless the Amish.
The Amish are like an old phone that no longer receives software updates.
LMAO
But, they aren't cheaply made to last 2 years, constantly buying new ones. They are like simple Nokia phones with a battery cell lasting weeks at a time, and not having to be constantly plugged into an outlet. They'd rather live the simple life surrounded by family and hard work that pays off, instead of everyone always glued to screens and keeping up with the Kardashians. :-) I respect their culture, as long as no one is actually forced into it like a cult or anything.
My best dog leashes are Amish made. First, they were shorter than 6 ft. and are so soft in the hand. Every time I had someone off, "Where did you get that leash?"
they family histories of all members
Very good job on the
Government needs to keep there nose out of EVERYONE life.
Agree with you completely!!
Yeah, we should be able to do whatever we like! Who does this Government think they are making laws to control us? We should be allowed to rape and steal and kill at will!
@@Frankowillo 😂
@@Frankowillo Yes the government will protect you! If someone is trying to rape or steal from you then just call the police! The police will show up in 30 - 40min and document the crime scene after the criminal steals all your stuff & flees.
Very smart folks
This reminds me of "Little House on the Prairie." Am waiting for Ma and Pa Ingalls to show up. Seriously, these are wonderful people.
I know there is a number of them in Western Pennsylvania!
A quick question for those who know a heap about armish, and their farming practice: you know how they don't use vehicles, cars, tractors etc with rubber tires. Are tractors with crawler tracs acceptable? I know they use tractors with steel wheels, but I'm just curious
ARE THOSE HORSES...BELGIANS?? THE AMISH ARE THE TRUEST OF RELIGIONS. THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO RUN THEIR FARMS AS THEY WANT, AS LONG AS IT DOES NOT HURT OTHERS!!!! I HAVE AMISH FURNITURE...ALL WOOD AND...TRUE, WONDERFUL...CRAFTSMANSHIP......YOU CANNOT FIND BETTER...QUALITY!!!!!
They are also a set of racist
What is a set of racist? Lmao
If I don’t hurt anybody can I not pay taxes too?
@@Pocketfarmer1
What a tired myth.
THEY PAY TAXES.
Check your keyboard, your CAP is on.....?
He said in the beginning 'they live without electricity and automobiles" then I see them working with tractors and bandsaws... I respect them but somehow I can not understand them.
tax breaks. most communities are a bit scammy with a religious underpinning. Many of these communities are supported by running modern high tech industrial businesses from those primitive looking buildings.
They have a gasoline engine powering a drive line, to power saws, planers,
and all kinds of power tools. Including a small generator to recharge batteries
for their cordless tools. The tractors have steel wheels, and all equipment
have steel wheels.
The horses need a break.
All major decisions r about how they effect the family I was one a lot of restrictions some Baptists r more conservative a good way to live it's more romantic being on the outsideooking in than being in looking out but the temptations are the same
people say nobody works like a Mexican but they have never met the Amish 💪 that’s the lord work
I bought my beautiful pure bred German shepherd dog from the Armish 7 years ago, he is the smartest most wonderful dog I have ever brought into my life.
bought it, I thought they were nice people and would give dogs away.
Amish are well known for puppy mill breeders. Must know the people you get a dog from in Amish country.
I wish I knew how much $$$ was made by them every year simply because the moniker “Amish” is on the label? Are Amish sugar cookies in ANY way better or different than Methodist sugar cookies? I think not!
Have you done research into the world of puppy mills and the Amish???
They are now in 4 Canadian provinces
the have no Gps Tractor.....they are work hard....i respect ever hard worker....greats from,, alt europa,,,👍👍👍
in Mexico and in Paraguay Mennonites can be found as well
This is so nice. I wish nobody discovered electricity or invented machines or modern appliances, so that we all can get stuck in 18 century America. No stress, beautiful landscape, fresh air, organic food, etc. Wow this is so good.
Yeah when there kids got mangled by pice of equipment in Maine thay had no problem airlifting him to Boston
Ah yes, "the good old days", when infant mortality was as high as 1 in 4, autism was non-existent because those awful vaccines hadn't been invented, blah, blah, blah. You people yearning for "the good old days" are so full of shit (not to mention, just plain fucking ignorant)!
You can start by throwing your phone in the trash and turning your electric power off and quit driving your car. Don't forget to raise your own food.
Can you guys build a power milk processing plant.
I miss getting sandwiches from the Amish market. Everything tasted 10x better than usual
They tenderize the animal meet while the animals are still alive.
6:30 they could use homemade veggie instead of imported fuel. if anyone knows more, it will be appreciated
7:30 true, the population may increase but the fertile land does not
9:17 the tourism is not reliable due to travel restrictions
you know fertilizers exist right
an amish family lives across the road from an English farmer . the English farmer goes to school and becomes an engineer. the boy moves to another part of the country , and become to lazy to farm . the English farmer has no sons to work so he sells his land to the amish farmer . and that's how a lot of them spread .
2021 I am ready to leave covid19, and CRAZY american life!!!!!! can I move here???????? NO RIOTS, PROTESTS, VIOLENCE ETC.........my nerves are SHOT!!!!!
Excellent clip. Quote, "they know they have to be born again." The adage, ~ keep it simple stupid. (kiss)
If you believe that shit, you'll believe anything.
It means they need to be baptized. They don't go in for the pop notion of being "born again". They use the Christian understanding of being born of water and Spirit (baptism).
I would love to live with Amish. Keeping pure morality would be easier
Boundary!
So how many practicing Amish have autism?
They use machines today, don't let them fool you.
They can ride in car as long someone else drives it and pays all of the expenses. They can use generators for their home. They can use telephone as long it is on a pole in a shed outside of their home.
you have to admire them. i have a feeling we might be looking to them for guidance before long
They are also racist so i wud like to know where in the bible they found that
How are they racist?
I’m afraid I have no faith in any cults or religious movements. We need to look closer to ourselves as humans to make the world a better place..unfortunately that will never happen in my lifetime.
So you don't believe in or trust religious movements?? Amish aren't hurting or shooting anyone, they don't steal from anyone, don't trash towns, cities or anywhere, don't spread bull around unlike today's political movements. All Amish want is what most want, government freedom & left alone. Only the government is screwing up their lives. Wasn't until recently that they would move into vt bc laws & regulations prevented them. Go figure, the state promoting the Green movement wants Amish to use electricity, fuel and modern things they believe causes climate change.
if they had to come up with 5-10 thousand school and land taxes every year like some of us do, they'ed live a little different.
Very interesting film, didnt know anything about Amish..

I'm looking for a job opportunity with farmworker, housekeeper or Personal Assistant.
They are in 4 Canadian provinces
i,m not amish but i agree with them ,i admire there faith
-having faith and living that faith are two separate things...
For the Going to Town horse they go to the racetrack looking for a good deal.
Der Dutchman?!? I love that restaurant, this must be around where I live in Ohio
It is, I have been all over that part of Ohio, Der Dutchman is in Walnut Creek, Lehmans is in Kideron and Mt Hope, Ashury's is a wonderful bulk food store, Guggisburg Cheese , Kiem Lumber in Charm and do not forget Mrs. Yoders Kitchen, I sort of forgot the settlement name, but never forget how to get there. if you want good home cooked food, these wonderful people are the ones to be friends with
Amazing
I live in a countythat has several Amish living in it and they are really great folks ,I admire their humble way of life and they have a great store near my home, by today and bought lots of supplies and one of the best sandwiches I have ever had for my lunch.the only bad thing was they have stopped making doughnuts until april 23.they also sellany kind of spice or flour or wheat or barly you could ever want .and they even have hand sliced side meat ,it is cut from the slab when I was a kid and we killed hogs my Granny would slice us off some fresh bacon from a big slab and dust it with flour and fry it up and put a piece of that on a big hot biscuit ,now that is really good, think I will fix me some in the morning.
I have attended a local Mennonite Church and find them very friendly. And have met the Bishop and his son. And another family, and after service have had dinner with them. The Bishop has 2 teens in their mid 20's and 4 sisters. The other has 1 son and 4 daughters. Neither the Bishop or others receive a salary. Any comments would be most welcome.
This is the life they chose, and they grow there food, in which is better for eating healthy.
bingo
The Amish modify their beliefs in step with the changes in the iron laws of economic survival. And who can blame them? If they can satisfy themselves with their reasons for doing so, then what business is it for the rest of us?
Hope that long got a speeding ticket? Lol!
