@1:00 in a small town this becomes a problem because everyone is likely to know the few local doctors and lawyers.

You handled that woman’s case with such respect, wow.
I wish the states had people like you and her worker.

hi i recently found your channel and love it and have been watching loads of your videos ,i wondered if you would ever do a video on FII/FIIA - Munchausen's/Munchausen's by proxy ? using Beverly allit as an example although she killed/injured the children in the 90's she's one that's interested me alot as before her job its said she feigned illness on herself and even after prosecution she did the same so she meets both illness imposed on self and on others as well , of course everyone also knows about gypsy rose blanchard case as there's an old documentary (mother dead and dearest) the new documentary (gypsys revenge) and of course the drama series 'the act' aswell but obviously with Beverly allit being British and a 90s case its lesser known , but yea i would love to hear your thoughts on FII/FIIA Munchausen's and Munchausen's by proxy especially the latter and if you've ever cared for someone with the latter too
as someone with mental health issues and pretty severe chronic / genetic physical issues which often play into each other for example when I am in pain it means i get less sleep and the pain and sleep deprivation make my mood more wonky so as someone with both physical and mental health issues i think out of all the true crime stuff the stories of FIIA /Munchausen's by proxy interest me the most for sure and i would love to see you talk about these types of cases

Many thanks for the props, Alice-Laura. And welcome to the channel! Do me a favour and tell all your friends and enemies about it.
This is a weird coincidence, but I actually have just recorded a 3-part video series about Munchhausen's and Munchhausen's by proxy, including the one case of the latter that I have seen! I started writing about Beverly Allitt, but then I stopped, as her behaviours are not really that typical of Munchhausen's by proxy - i.e. they weren't her own children - and so I don't have much to say about this case that's not already in the public domain. However, I have dissected the case of Dee Dee and Gypsy-Rose Blanchard - I have used my professional perspective to look at the psychological aspects this case (including the typical and atypical behaviours of Dee Dee for this diagnosis).
It will take a while to edit, etc, but the episodes should be released this coming Tuesday - i.e - 8th June.
This should be right up your street, Alice-Laura. Please keep an eye out for it and inform anybody you think might be interested.
Enjoy and have a blessed day.

I have a shared personal interest with a consultant I see twice a year. That means we sometimes meet at events. Is it ok to interact as long as we don’t discuss anything we talk about in the consultation room? I feel a bit awkward avoiding him

What about talking with patients family members? It's been awhile (thankfully) since ive been an inpatient but i always hated it when they consulted my family members without my permission (or insisted on doing it with permission). As an adult i just feel like we should have say as to who the doctors speak with even if that means not speaking with any family. I personally dont like having my family involved in my mental health. Also i once had a nurse call my mom when i brought in alcohol (lol) even though i was 20 at the time.

In what instances would a person's treatment, be kept from them? As in, a person can have access to their medical records. But there are instances where information can be kept from them. The usual, reason given for keeping the information from them, is that it could be harmful to them. How can words and information in somebody's health records be harmful to them? Another reason is that it may contain information about other people. Why would somebody's medical records have information about other people in them?

Hello, I am a 19 year old that experienced what I think is drug induced psychosis ( I ate a 50mg edible ) I didn’t understand how much I was taking. I almost went into like another world and my thoughts felt like they weren’t my own I couldn’t control them. I was thinking about all the worst parts about myself and everything was so surreal. Shortly after I ended up thinking the person I was with was trying to kill me. I was very paranoid even though I knew him since childhood. The next day I felt better but ever since have struggled with severe anxiety and depression. Sometimes I don’t know if it triggered something in my brain and now I’m permanently damaged or if this will go away. Can you help me?

      Hi Rachel.
Thanks for sharing your story. Sounds like an absolute nightmare!
There's lots of possible explanations. I think the most likely is, I'm afraid to say, that you were already predisposed to your mental health issues, but the drug use pushed you over the edge. I don't think it necessarily caused the problems, but may have speeded them up.
Sounds like you need to get help via your general practitioner / family doctor. If they think it is very severe, they may refer you to a psychiatrist.
I wish you all the best. Let me know how you doing.

ok so a question: obviously you've discussed 'famous' cases on your channel, so at what point does 'famous/well known cases' not equate to breaking confidentiality?

    • @APsychForSoreMinds
      @APsychForSoreMinds  3 роки тому +2

      Hi, AC. Good question.
Patient confidentiality is only relevant to patients I have personally assessed. Talking about famous cases whom I haven't seen is not breaking confidentiality, because I'm using information that is already out in the public domain. I'm letting you know my own professional theories, as opposed to actual private clinical information.
I have actually assessed a couple of celebrities, but I would never talk about their cases. That would be unethical.

Ok ... this is news to me that they should not acknowledge me on the street. Cause I always end up having full blown conversations with the health care staff that work with me. 🤣😂.

I think it's okay if you speak to them first, Charlene. They shouldn't be approaching you, especially if you're with other people.
