Mr. Spicer indicates to us that "grilse" is a salmon making its first spawning run, which is only incidentally correct (true, but not the meaning of the word). In actuality, a "grilse" is a salmon that returns after only one winter at sea, while most salmon spend 2-3 winters at sea before making their first spawning run. Please, let's get our terminology correct. Misinformation in fishing is endemic, even among intelligent fly fishers.
