The 767 seems to fly under the radar, pun intended. Seems like it never gets any fanfare and just does it’s job well with no drama. In aviation, that’s not a bad thing,
Exactly!!! The 767 deserves more love
Because no matter where you sit, you have to climb over at most 1 person to get to the aisle.
This right here, especially when you have anxiety about bothering a stranger to make way for you.
Flew the 767-300ER for many years at one of the major airlines. It was a fantastic airplane. Too bad Boeing has been taken over by bean counters.....
I can’t wait haha 🙂
I've been on numerous long flights on Boeing's 767-300 and the comfort of the 2-2-2 or 2-3-2 cabin configuration just cannot be surpassed.
Hope there is not one saying"the 350 is better, you should try the 330" since that is a little anoying.
@@sergiolaurencio7534 I've flown on the big Airbus planes. The 767 has more room. The only seat I've been in that was larger was in a 747 in first class.
I flew the 767 for two years at FedEx... it was a sweet flying aircraft!👍🏽👍🏽
I used to work the FDX ramp in PHX. Such an easy and reliable plane to work.
@@SAMann729 ive been on the 777 the last three years, so I don’t get to PHX that much anymore 😖
@@rosworld9129 Lucky you! That’s my favorite plane in our fleet. Not sure on the schedules now, but PHX is (or was) getting the 777 as the MD-11 replacement to MEM.
It’s a shame Boeing, despite trying to extend the life of the 737s, wouldn’t consider a completely modern 767 with updated MAX-style winglets, newer gen turbofans and composite materials that would compete with the A321XLR and the A330neo. If there’s one thing I wish it would be brought back to life, it’s the passenger variant of the 767 production line.
Currently there’s no true “middle-of-the-market” plane except the A310 and the 767, the former which only being operated by select few, notably Iran carriers like Mahan Air and Iran Air. The A321XLR is close, but no cigar.
The real Boeing who already upgrade the 767, but is death :(
Bagged me a few BA 767 flights between 2013 and 2017. Glad I did. Superbly comfortable planes.
My favorite aircraft. Only wish it had the trailing link gear like the A330 for smoother landings. Love the 2-3-2; perfectly sized aircraft.
3:05 United has been updating the cabins on its 767s. Old UAL 757s have all been retired.
They were but that program is now on hold indefinitely. They don’t have the money anymore and the whole market is changed away from premium heavy
@@johniii8147 80% of 763A’s and 82% of 763L’s have Polaris cabins. The 764’s were delayed even before 2020 but are still scheduled for interior refit.

I love the 767
As you said at the end, there are still many cargo 767s in operation. I work at an Amazon Air facility and regularly check flightradar24, mainly to check if flights on my shift arrive on time but when I see a 767 without winglets, I search the registration on Air fleets and nearly all are 20-35 years old and all were converted pax aircraft. I saw one a few weeks ago that first flew in 1982 (or 83) with a line number 70-something. Many are former American or Delta planes and some came from East Asia (All Nippon, some Chinese airlines). I saw one once that flew for airlines on all six inhabited continents: Vietnam Airlines, Ansett, Qantas, something City in Belgium and was at one point wet leased (it's reg. number didn't changed) to Cameroon Airways, some airline in Luxembourg (Luxair?), some airline in Uruguay, then it spent about 10 years with S7 in Russia before being converted to a freighter and serving ever since for ATI operating in Amazon Air livery.
I work for ATI and the -200 models are quite old. Especially 739AX. Line #26. She is the oldest of the fleet. Alot of cycles on her but short in hours. She is one of three we have from Delta.
I flew on the same Condor 767-300ER on two flights and it is my favorite plane.
Condom airlines
Also, the KC-46 tanker variant of the 767-200 will essentially keep the lines going for quite a while. Not to mention a potential large order of 767-300F's by Atlas Air to operate for Amazon Air.
American already retired all their 767s
They retired them on March 30th 2020
The 767-300 is my favorite plane I took my last 767-300 flight on American on March 20th 2020
10 days before they were retired :(
I watched the last flight land from Lima to Miami on the 30th at night.
It’s quite surprising to me that AA retired them so early. Thankfully, Delta and United will keep theirs for quite some time yet.
@@aviationlba747 they were meant to be retired in 2025 but COVID sped it up.
@@nikobelic4251 Indeed, same goes for their 767s. Shame.
The 767-400er is a great plane but since it was second to the market it didn’t sell.
I know the 767 is good. It’s not just good but it’s GREAT. That’s why I’m still hoping that Boeing releases the proposed 767-X along with the 757-Plus rather than the proposed 797. Why design an entirely new airframe instead of just re-engineering airframe designs you already have?
Cause you end up with the 737MAX...
@@SAMann729 yes good point . The MAX currently has 5000 jets on order and many more on the way. The 767X may not be as succesfull as the 737MAX but it could close the GAP for them in the middle of the market.
I love the Boeing 767
I love to fly on the 767. I have flown on it since Boeing introduced it. I still love flying on it between Wash DC and Munich and Wash DC and Vienna. I hope they keep them and just upgrade them.
I flew my first B767 on Delta to Hawaii. It's was large and comfortable.
Same I flew delta from slc
My first time flew this B767 it feel so smooth flight and much less fear of turbulence. the wing is huge ...and this is my favorite
So exceptionally good it was canceled
the good does not last long
TUI also operates the 767
I really enjoyed how the 767 had 2 seats on each side with 3 in the middle. Sitting in the window seat was much better with only one person next to me, whereas 2 would be next to me on the 787
My fav aircraft!
Of my last four flights on the 767, three were all in first class; SCL- MIA, LIM- MIA, SJU-MIA, one LIM-MIA in premium economy were all awesome, great experience. In comparison, flying PHL-CDG, and PHL-FCO on a 330, also in first class was not that great, not so comfy. I worked on the -200 for many years as a and flight mechanic, logging my highest altitude in one of those flight, 47,000 feet. My favorite airplane, more so than the 757, which I also crewed. Hate it to see it go. Best overall airplane. Nice video.
If 767-400ER re engined with GEnx-2B and 100T OEW/ 200T MTOW would it be an analogical of 797-7 NMA??? 🛫🤓
The capacity would be too large
@@ksvarun537 agreed, a re-engined 767-400ER especially would end up falling into the same bracket as the 787-8, so it’s pretty pointless
Delta has a wonderful updated interior onall its 767s. The -400 interiors, some are brand new. They look like 777s inside.
Flew them twice, one LOT and one Air Canada. LOT’s was really old but Air Canada’s was an amazing plane
LOT are a great airline, aren't they?
@@kevincarlson7148 tbh their 787s seem pretty good. But their older planes not so much.
@@NarutoHarryPotter Thanks,I like 787s.
Air nigini from papa New Guinea has two Boeing 767-300s one is 23 years old built in 1999 and the another one is 30 years old built in September 1991 and the 767s are still a very solid reliable and safe airplane even when some of them are 30 years old.
If they had made a shorter lighter version with new wings and engines 10 to 15 years ago when the 757 was showing reduced relevance (many of the airports it was designed for were being, or had been lengthened) would anyone be talking about an NMA now, and would the A321 be the most popular narrow bodied neo?
As a passenger, I love the 2-3-2 layout, and for speedy loading and unloading of passengers, so do the ground and cabin crew!
Flew a united 767 from Amsterdam to Newark in 2018
Don't forget to add the KC-46 to the 767 production tally.
interesting, no mention of the kc-46
That's a whole video altogether😂
Used in 9 11
flew to China and back on a 767. great plane.
How are most outdated inside? UA has a world class product inside, and had a 3-cabin with F suites beforehand. ..
Just because it was well designed and cutting edge.
I wonder why UPS adds winglets to their 767s while FedEx does not. You'd think if they were good for one, they'd be good for the other.
13 years, 6k hours on the B767. Excellent machine!
Its successor, the B787 is, however, another planet altogether
Still sorry to see the 67 go
The worlds first wide body twin jet was of course the A300
😍👍😍
2-3-2 is much better than the Nightmare-liner. Waiting for a new clean sheet all composite 2-3-2.
Why the 'nightmare liner'?
I've always thought the 767 would be very inefficient to operate due to the 2-3-2 seating. That's only one extra seat width that a narrow-body jet despite being twin aisle. With the range of modern narrow-body aircraft surely it's just a matter of time before these are gone from passenger operation for good.
I love fueling 767s. The easiet to fuel on the ramp
the 787 is more expensive in construction cost alone, and fuel economy advantages are realized in the long range flights. Also, I suppose Boeing no longer needs to amortize 767 development cost, hence price is manufacturing cost + margin
I wish that Boeing would make 767Max a bit more efficient Than before it .i loved kind of this boeing's model ,it has been old although .
I think it is more comfortable to seat in than even the Boeing 747, because the boeing 747 seats arranged in 3-4-3, when you need to leave your window seat for toilet, you have to ask TWO other passengers to give way to you which is inconvenient!
Why did USPS face reticule from insufficient productivity from Amazon's contracted shipments?
The 767 is still a good equipment but the real still unsurpassed one is the 757. Certain versions of both the 787 and the 330 can compete and win with the 767; the 757 instead even now with the new 321XLR on the market still offers unnatched performances. And that's why several carriers strive to keep them operational. If Boeing had been the wise company it used to be, its management would have bet on a new 757 instead of wasting money, time and reputation on the 737max
Still one of my favorite planes due to the 2-3-2 layout. But it is showing it’s age :(
Sad that the 767s are being displaced by 787s.
A lot of 767s are also being replaced with the longer range narrow bodies like the A320Neo..
Both TUI UK and TUI Fly operate at least 1 767 still
Maybe Boeing should put a more aerodynamic wing on it and a couple of different more fuel efficient engines and continuous production for passenger service. That would be much cheaper and less time-consuming than a major rebuild.
thats basically the 787
@@nicholasgriffis7681 787 is mostly a composite plane and not built to the level of quality the 767 enjoyed.
Long live the 2-3-2 economy class layout! Long live the B767!
There is a lot more cost than lease and fuel. I think this video was made 10 years ago!
That’s what the Stones fly
Boeing should have MAX'd the 757-767
Indeed. They should have updated the 75 and 76 and done a clean sheet design for the 737 replacement. Hindsight though.
@@RedRider2001 or if they just didn't rush and developed the 737MAX right from the start then the crashes and grounding wouldn't have happened.
@@yoyoyoyoshua Indeed, but we all know the most appropriate to fight with the 321 and other planes is the 757. But look what is happening, that I do not lose my weight, yes. But Boeing (McDonnell Douglas) is very bad and I doubt that they want to do well.
@@sergiolaurencio7534 They need to come out with a new design. Yeah an updated 757 would work too but a new design would be better. Then you have a new airframe instead of an updated 80's design.
@@yoyoyoyoshua the 797 have to be the new solution then z but how the situation is going for them, I doug it
Airlines are still flying it, because there is no direct replacement (yet). A330Neo and 787 are too big and expensive, A321(XLR) is not big enough, and well, a narrow body aircraft cannot be a true replacement of a wide body.
It is interesting that the closest possible substitute was already retired before 767. That aircraft is A310 🤔
There are rumors that Boeing is considering a reengined 767Plus, instead of a clean sheet NMA. I think it is not a bad idea at all. 767 production line is still there, development costs of a Plus variant will be minimal and therefore price can be kept around the expected range by the airlines, which is ~$75M net.
A clean-sheet design NMA will be obviously more efficient in terms of fuel economy, but NMA will be a risky move for Boeing if they want to keep that price level.
For comparison, note that after 10+ years and 1000+ units of production, 787 still could not break even and probably will never financially succeed. And its market was/is bigger than that of 767.
I am not sure about that. I fly with Delta as a top tier frequent flyer. 767 routes are either jampacked/oversold or partially empty, depending on the day of the week. I think there will be no issue filling the the extra capacity of A330, which Delta has demonstrated. If the airlines wanted it, they could have the A330-800 but they didn't.
The 787 and A330 are not "too big"; their cross section is only a little wider than the 767. Expensive they might be, but most 767s have already been replaced by either one of the two newer planes. The 787 already checks most of the boxes that the 767 had Phil, especially for the 300. The dash 8 could be a reliable replacement for the 200, do some Airlines don't use it largely because they would have to retrain their crew to be able to use a new plane since the 767 and 787 do not have the same type rating like the one between the 777 and the 787.
The nma could more readily be a good replacement for the 757 and the 767-200. But the larger models are already covered.
@@fighter5583 Operating Empty Weights (in tonnes):

Maybe you are too young to remember that Boeing initially planned to develop a *lighter 787-3* variant to be the true replacement of 767.
However due to development costs of 787 already reaching astronomical levels, 787-3 was cancelled when when there were many orders and never produced.
Of course airlines are already replacing aging 767s with some other available aircraft. What can they do if 767s become unflyable?
@@user-yt198 OEW doesn't always equate to overall size. Obviously, the other two are heavier. They'd are within the same size class for gates, minimum safe distance while in flight, and required runway distance for operation.
@@fighter5583 Oh really? I am enlightened. I am 80kg and I have a friend who is 120kg. From now on I can wear all his clothes because we are the same size 😂
To me the obvious writing is on the wall. Airlines want new 767's, it would be an easy switch. I get not revamping the 757 because the production line is closed. But with the 767 still being built as a freighter and Boeing in a not so good financial situation, it seems more obvious to me to make a passenger Next Gen model. Update the engines, flight deck, and improved wing design. To me this could be done within 2-3 years versus 6-8 years with the new NMA 797. Tell airlines we will build a next gen model but you need to order x number of aircraft to make the update profitable.
The best airplane ever.
Simple, B767 engine is compatible with those of B747-400
2-3-2 layout. The smallest widebody. Great aircraft.
All they have to do is keep on manufacturing the same aircraft with the more lite materials and upgrade the enginesjust just like they should've never stop producing the F14 tomcats which is a well respected jet on the battlefield since Iran keeps them flying
"...development of the 767 began just two years after the launch of the 747." That's not right.
The launch of 747 was in 1966, when Pan Am became the launch customer. The 7X7 program did not begin two years later in 1968. Most sources say 1972 was the first time Boeing ever used code name 7X7.
Maybe you meant to say that development began two years after the introduction of 747, not its launch.
The likes are 757 like the boeing 757
I’d chose this 767 rather than a cramped 777
Boeing just needs to dreamliner the 767 already, screw a clean sheet design. New wing, Leap engines and updated flight deck.
Unfortunately, we have to realize the real Boeing is death. Is just MDouglas who is in there, just that it change the name to something new.
Trees, no. They pack the damn seats in this plane. If your a muscular man, it's terrible unless you're in an aisle seat

How about 737max, good as well?
The 767-400ER would’ve sold better if it didn’t have a 777 cockpit, this aircraft would of only been seen well in the eyes of airlines who operated the 777 and 767, which only 777 pilots could fly the aircraft, but maintenance would have to be different because of the aircrafts 777 systems but 767 body
It didn’t sell because it was post 9/11 Boeing shit the bed not updating the 75/76 they would have had orders from DL AA UAL and I’m talking 100 plus each for all airlines 600-800 planes between the 3 airlines
To be brutally honest the title is completely wrong, among todays modern airlines the 767 is woefully backward, the one and only trick up it’s sleeve is that it’s cheap, that’s it, nothing more, as the airframes reach their life end and the overhaul costs spiral they will be scrapped just like any other aircraft that has reached the end of the road.
Stick on some more efficient engines, and it could easily make a comeback. I know airlines want long range narrowbodies, but a 767 ER'X', in 200, 300, and 400 guise, could fill the same roll, and be a more enjoyable passenger experience. The 400 could also maybe replace the 787-8, which is too expensive for it's size.
That idea is already been rejected it’s 1970s technology if they do it will only be for the freighter version

They are holding on to them because they are all paid for and new ones cost a fortune, same reason why they held on to the MD 88's for so long.
Plus they are all technically DC-9 planes. Supposedly the door plates all the way to the last in the MD-9x series and 717 still say DC-9 on them so they didn't have to be full recertified by the FAA.
