The Host is the most unsettling combination of beauty and menace that I've ever heard. It sounds downright evil yet irresistible at the same time. No artist inspires that feeling like The Weeknd.
When his manager Cash heard Abel's first mixtape in 2011 he was living in Miami. Within 24 hours after hearing Abel sing he abandoned his apartment and all his belongings and packed everything he had into a single suitcase and moved to Toronto to be closer to Abel. He stalked him till he met him. The rest is history. Props to people who recognize genius without being told it is genius
If you aren't listening to these songs in order, you're not doing it right. The way every song from HOB, EOS and Thursday just flow into each other is so fucking beautiful... It's one of the reasons why I fell in love with this man and his music.
Brianna Garcia woke up with most of your side wet. In another room you hear your mom cryin, cuz she found yo bag stuffed in the laundry, and the Bacardi from the last party
Abel is the only artist who can take melancholic themes like drug overdosing and depression and make it sound so god damn beautiful. Such a dark and haunting story he tells in most of his Trilogy tracks; but this track, in particular, is just so alluring and powerful. He really knows how to resonate with those who have been a victim of drug abuse and addiction and have suffered mentally cause of it. That is what is so profound and unique about Abel in Trilogy. XO till we overdose forever
Damn, 4:47-7:29 is the strongest part of the song. He’s demanding that he’ll seek from you. He’ll test to see your wits to join him and his boys, to witness how far you’ll fall with him. His rage, he wants you to embrace it, so you’ll feel what’s he’s feeling. A controlled rage birthed from sadness and sorrow. And when you’re down, like him, the only way to go back up is to get high and ride it out. I would rather be more afraid of a person who can control their anger, than a person who cannot.
This song makes me cry. Its is a very unique representation of how drugs call to and destroy young women who party like this. This is so dark, eerie, and hypnotizing. Representing the drugs as a person who calls to you, tricks you, enters your head, and then in the end introduces you to "His Boys" which is a harder drug, and this just destroys more. This song is a work of art and one The Weeknd's best works. It is so beautiful and haunting.
This song exposes the darkness of life's fortunes and the lifestyle on drugs.... "His boys", isn't introducing you to more drugs, it's introducing "his boys" to you for group sex, gang bangs & having a train run on you by/with "his boys". ...
Can't believe he was 21 when he wrote this, the meaning behind this song is so deep, the whole project is The way he can talk about this drugs world is years above those nowdays lame ass trappers
the way it goes into initiation "girl the night is almost done and who you came with is already gone, you said you want me but i remember who you are"......dope
i always come back to this.... the second half.... makes me feel something so much deeper inside.i leave this world, for the remainder of the song. im sure we can all agree. xotwod
I'm here after your 3 year comment and damn it, that shit at this very moment got me feeling something majorly unexplainable.... it's fucking mind blowing, I've never heard a sound like that.. period!
I am so happy that The Weeknd is no longer homeless and is making money for his talents! You deserve all the fame and awards, Man! You deserve everything good
ItzCrazeee Yeah honestly the production on this album is some of the best Ive ever heard. Lots of weird instrumentation and combinations but its so damn badass.
Michael A Marriott I’ve changed my tune, After Hours is an incredible album, I just thought the whole Starboy stage was really weak and it scared me for the future of his career
when i started listening to the weeknds music i first thought he wants to tell his fans to try this lifestyle that is about drugs and sex and that it is awesome but when i actually got myself in this lifestyle i did finally understand that he wanted to tell us that we shouldnt make the same mistake cuz there is almost no escape from it and even if you have a fun time in reality it breaks you and you dont realize it but the people around you do XO till we overdose
I can relate so much to Abel's music, especially his older work. Even though I have never done drugs or been interested in them. I have anxiety & depression.
I hope he still looks back at this album (this song especially) and knows how much he captured. Been listening to this album 11+ years and don’t plan on giving it up. My favorite album of all time.
I love Adaptation, Professional, Belong to the World, and some other stuff on Kiss Land...but nothing beats Trilogy. 4:40 and on is SO GOOD. It's all great...I just love to lie in the dark and blast this.
The weeknd's old music taught me to cope with depression, and that being lonely wasn't necessarily a bad thing. He taught me to enjoy what most people would consider negative emotions? but then i became best friend with weed, oh well
I can listen to this over and over and over and never get tired or sick of it. The Host has got to be my favorite song from him all time, it’s perfect. He is such a amazing artist. The way he sings immaculate one of the best artist all time XO ♾️
This song is insane, and guess what he's learned and grown so much from this piece of work. Evolving and crafting his talent into his new albums. If you love his old stuff but hate his new stuff I just have no words and don't understand the thought process
This is literally a movie soundtrack. Echoes of silence . That three track run of montreal outside then this. If i wanted to introduce the weeknd to someone it'd be this song
I remember getting really into him when I was junior in hs in 2014 . None of my friends cared for his music so It was like I created my own fantasy world listening to his jams. No alcohol or drugs involved, it was the music itself that made me feel high like I was floating and depressed but oh I fuckin loved it! N I was comforted to see other ppl on UA-cam commenting the same things I was feeling...Man time flies. Nostalgia to the max.
The woman chanting when the song switches, the dark lyrics, the dark beat coupled with his voice. There won't be another one like trilogy by anyone ever.

so many memories :'( , miss the trilogy era of his life , but I'm glad he's doing better these days. will always support his music since day one. Xotwod
This man is not just a great musician, he is an artist. The first part of this song is about someone who has ruined their lives partying, taking drugs, etc. Then the second part, connected by the line “if they don’t let you in, you know where to find me”, details this same broken individual taking refuge and slipping back into her old habits after the cold reality illustrated by the first part. Thus contenting the cycle.

He is still making music just as good...i agree this was better but he is still just as talented and I love it. Check out Mood music its a snippet from a new song on his enxt album its dope and reminds me of his old stuff..
Instant High Title of this song will be different ;) But yeah, it's really great and I can't wait for it. He's still talented but Kiss Land was not that good, for me, beats on KL were awful.
***** I mean, I didn't like every song from KL as I did from Trilogy. I love Kiss Land (track), Adaptation, Love In The Sky, Professional and that's all.
I forgot just how much I loved The Host. It just completely puts you into a completely different state of mind. God, Abel Tesfaye is a fucking geniuse. Reppin' XO til' We OD
I used to listen to this all the time in 2012, one of my favourite songs. I've just got back into The Weeknd. Starting with his newer stuff which I love, the direction he's taking his music is incredible but it doesn't compare to this, Thursday HOB and Echoes of Silence are on another level. There's an incredible atmosphere on his older stuff
the first time I heard of this track, this is a masterpiece! the way Illangelo (the producer of the beat) made the beat so grim, druggy, melancholy, and mysterious, where The Weeknd goes wit' the dark lyrics wit' the angelic vocals is top tier gold. had chills hearin' this track 🐐🔥💯
By using words/phrases like “everything you need”, “love”, and “believe”, Abel metaphorically describes the alcohol/drugs/party lifestyle as a religion. Amazing song writing.
[Part II: The Host] [Breakdown] I need, I need something from you Oh, there's so much love to pass around There's too much love Girl, the night's almost done And who you came with is already gone You said you want me But I remember who you are And girl, it wasn't long ago Didn't think I'd go this far [Outro] Well, I got a test for you You said you want my heart Well, baby you can have it all There's just something that I Need from you is to meet my boys I got a lot of boys And we can make you right And if you get too high Baby, come over here and ride it out Oh, oh, oh yeah Ride it out Oh, oh, whoa yeah Ride it out Ride it out Just ride it

[Verse 1]
Shots of the Henny, bottles of Patron
Blunts to your face, you don't wanna sing no more, lost your C notes
Cabbed all day, took the bus back home
Evictions on your door, blame it on the weed, blame it on the booze
Blame it on the night life, light's passin' you, yeah
Just don't blame it on me, that you wanna come and party
With a nigga like me, cause I get it
You're built like a Goddess
And it seems like you been stressin'
'Specially when your nose red
From that K, special Diet Coke
You need more bread, now you got no rent
You blow that money, money
You try to window shop, you blow another hundred
She's fuckin' goons in the day
Hipster nights downtown and your daddy don't know you're out
[Bridge]
If they don't let you in
You know where to find me
Cause if you wanna go again
You can always call me
Cause all we ever do is love
Open up ya' mind, you can find the love
Girl you ain't alone
We all been alone
Baby just be honest
[Hook]
(XO) Ohh, don't you forget
(XO) Don't you worry 'bout a thing

I love it when your eyes are red
Ah yea, are you on my cloud yet?
Cause I got a brand new cam, can we video feed, can we POV
Why? I wanna catch you at your best
When your hair's a mess
You look so depressed
And you're filled with regret
And you feel like you gotta go home
Cause these nights pass, so much quicker then the days did
Same clothes you ain't ready for your day shift
But you up you need money for ya' face lift
Lust over love
Is ya' mindset
Waken up with most of ya' side wet
Another room, you hear your mom cryin'
Cause she found your bag stuffed in the laundry
And the Bacardi from the last party
[Bridge]
If they won't let you in
You know where to find me

I need, I need something from you
Oh, there's so much love to pass around
There's too much love
Girl, the night's almost done
And who you came with is already gone
You said you want me
But I remember who you are
And girl, it wasn't long ago
Didn't think I'd go this far
[Outro]
Well, I got a test for you
You said you want my heart
Well, baby you can have it all
There's just something that I
Need from you is to meet my boys
I got a lot of boys
And we can make you right
And if you get too high
Baby, come over here and ride it out
Oh, oh, oh yeah

Thanks boss❤
I love how on this album all of his songs go perfectly into the next one. Its practically its own playlist!
10 years... wow. I cannot deal with this. XOTWOD, always and forever
the guitar on this original mix is so good
ong
This song is so fucking under rated.
yes
Definitely my fav off echoes of silence
@@BrandNewAlien yessss
Agree! #XO 🖤
Still is
i wish he'd go back to making music like this
jozic I hope his new album will be produced by Illangelo... or even only one or two songs!
He is still making music just as good...i agree this was better but he is still just as talented and I love it. Check out Mood music its a snippet from a new song on his enxt album its dope and reminds me of his old stuff..
Instant High Title of this song will be different ;) But yeah, it's really great and I can't wait for it.
He's still talented but Kiss Land was not that good, for me, beats on KL were awful.
embie Kissland was heaven. wth you on.
***** I mean, I didn't like every song from KL as I did from Trilogy. I love Kiss Land (track), Adaptation, Love In The Sky, Professional and that's all.
This is soo much more raw than the album version its so differently beautiful
This original cut is likely the best piece of music he's ever done, among a lot of great music. This song is completely, utterly, haunted.
favorite weeknd song
I forgot just how much I loved The Host. It just completely puts you into a completely different state of mind. God, Abel Tesfaye is a fucking geniuse. Reppin' XO til' We OD
My part starts at 5:00 mins "You say you want me, but I remember who you are, girl it wasn't long ago didn't think I go this far"
Omar Lopez
Laura Retzlaff hello there
shes in love with the concept
this album can never be old
if the weeknd's song were a drug...i'd be dead from a severe overdose
Same
Hi Liam Neeson
Still bumping in 2019
The king of any genre of music😭😭
something beautiful happens after 4:44 i swear
This era of the weeknd i miss soooo much. I was very young, partying, and living life.
The most underrated Weeknd song. No cap.
Ikr
Being a fan of the weeknd is forgetting some songs exist and finding them again
he actually called this girl "the host". This man has an intricate way of dealing with women it's amazing.
abel is one of the rare few who can take tragedy and make it melancholy. beautiful
He has done such great work for us. Grateful to be a x'o
I come here to shed a tear for what was a truly enigmatic time, *god bless you if you see this.*
Can’t get over how good this song is
This needs more attention, it’s my favorite song of his right now
he's the best singer in the world
Erik Jaime without a doubt!
XO💯
he really is tbh
IMO, Johnny Rain is better
second best right behind Michael Jackson
the trilogy is an album that needs to be experienced in the bleak freezing winter. that was how i first experienced it and it was magical
Abel has the voice of an angel... #XOTWOD
It’s actually amazing how dark and ambient this song is compared to the original more pop demo of this. Shows the versatility
The instrumentals are just beautiful
I wish I’d find someone in Italy who listens and appreciate this as much as I do
3:15 those oil drum sounds in the back ground that begin here are gorgeous
spainengland1 WWWWOOOOOOWWWW
By using words/phrases like “everything you need”, “love”, and “believe”, Abel metaphorically describes the alcohol/drugs/party lifestyle as a religion. Amazing song writing.
The way he experiments with his vocals truly show how great abel is
2020 and this still makes me cry.. wow
mysticbrown i get it
The most powerful song of all time
This song brings back memories of my past
All these comments from 3-5 yrs ago, anyone here still in 2019?
Ye

Ya guessed it right
Yes.
Waiting for chap 6 bitches
XO don't you forget !!! ❤💫
[Part II: The Host]
[Breakdown]
I need, I need something from you
Oh, there's so much love to pass around
There's too much love
Girl, the night's almost done
And who you came with is already gone
You said you want me
But I remember who you are
And girl, it wasn't long ago
Didn't think I'd go this far
[Outro]
Well, I got a test for you
You said you want my heart
Well, baby you can have it all
There's just something that I
Need from you is to meet my boys
I got a lot of boys
And we can make you right
And if you get too high
Baby, come over here and ride it out
Oh, oh, oh yeah
Ride it out
Oh, oh, whoa yeah
Ride it out
Ride it out
Just ride it
thankss
This beat is insane wish the song was longer, Abel is my favorite artist and I listen to him everyday
This is the greatest musical project ever released. Man the trilogy was so good.
