The weeknd's old music taught me to cope with depression, and that being lonely wasn't necessarily a bad thing. He taught me to enjoy what most people would consider negative emotions
One time I had a bad trip and this song is EXACTLY how everything felt. I don’t know how to explain it but he was able to capture that feeling. And the lyrics are so crazy accurate. Like “and the clocks don’t work, you don’t gotta check them time. And the blinds don’t work, you don’t have to check the sky”. He is a musical genius.
Nah. I think it’s quite the opposite. His songs actually shows how really messed up this lifestyle is. If you think about it, “Trilogy” is actually pretty good anti-advertising of such lifestyle.
@@DrCrimson_ nah man tons of 19 year old girls are tryna live this life while screaming XO till we overdose LMAO. I love the Weeknd my favorite artist, but come on now.

+Kiss Land XO Right? Everyone loves HOB but EOS really just perfected the sound. I mean just how Outside flows into XO/The Host and how that flows into Initiation is just fucking crazy. Shows how much thought he put into this last mixtape.
You can see the misery in his eyes... Hes a slave to the drugs. The way he speaks about his addiction screams help, but also asks you to join him. Brilliant
If you listened to this album enough you know the beginning of “same old song” comes after and it’s perfect. The darkness in this song is so insane. I love it. I don’t even put The Weeknd in “R&B” or “soul” it’s just The Weeknd whole genre itself. Amazing
I listened to this immediately after XO/The Host and heard the refrain and initially just thought "oh, it's to continue the song." But then it kept repeating. And every time it felt more intense and terrifying even at the parts that stayed the same. Because he's promised this girl that they can be together if she just does one thing - and another thing - and another drug - and another friend - and cuts off ties to everyone saying to stop, and makes herself completely subservient to him by getting hooked. It creates a prison of sound. You can't escape the repetition. Neither can she.
Never happen this again, at that time he was heavy drug addicted, he said that he used to get high and start singing whatever crossed his mind and that he is not seeing himself doing this now
Very clever use of autotune to represent different stages of the high. Anyone notice how in lines like "back from the comedown" the pitch is rising suggesting that the effect of the drugs are beginning to be pleasurable again? Then in lines like "I thought I passed my peak and I'm experiencing fall" the pitch is falling as he begins to experience another comedown from the excessive drug use. Also every four or so lines the content of the lyrics seem to change mood which coincides with the change in pitch as when the pitch is low he's talking about how fucked up the drugs have made him (a more darker tone). Whereas when the pitch is high he tends to be talking about how awesome the drugs feel. This constant roller-coaster of peak highs followed by a comedown and then followed by another high is characteristic of the over-abuse of drugs where the user believes the only remedy for a comedown is to simply not stop being high and is ultimately self-destructive. What else is powerful about this song is how the overall message is a story of him trying to entice someone else into his lifestyle of drug abuse. Perhaps because misery loves nothing more that company. Great song.
bob james 100% agree, i think this is one of the first songs back when it came out that really succeeded at the sound. i think they also used format changing, example is: lets say you are an Apple product user and use logic pro X, theres a format shift in the "flex pitch" edits and its very useful for that, i use it in my music as well. Pretty cool for a darker vibe or like you said, to really enhance the feeling in a song. XOTWOD
That's an incredibly well thought out explanation you have there! It made me love this song more. The very last lines are the lowest pitch in the song. Must be rock bottom from the effects of drugs.

KamiK-V He sees evil, speaks evil and hears evil. The left one sees evil, and righ one speaks it. Abel does it all. Instead of drawing over the eyes and mouth to symbolize the cenzorship of evil, they've done the opposite, expressing evil. And Abel is expressing it fully. Which is obvious if you observe his artwork.
@@llewellyndevries Thank you. "But it makes sense" yeah no shit it makes sense, you see 2 crazy ass dudes talking, they make perfect sense to each other.
The change in tone is to do with the come up and come down, on coke. You do it, you are feeling so high and lifted and off your head, but then shortly after you fall - this is when you need another line. You are urging for another - so you do it and come back up again. This is the cycle throughout the song.
nah, it's just the different upper and downers you continue to get fucked up on all night.. going up then down and back up and down with all types of shit. NOT just coke. I would know. Trust me.
this song is one of the deepest I have heard of him. the first guy is speak no evil. Abel is hear no evil. the guy on the left is see no evil.Abel isn't scratched out because he is hear no evil. We are listening to the song right now. so technically the song is "evil" and you can hear his voice is constantly changing and sounding different. Thats because he is being manipulated in a way by someone or something. most likely the devil but that is just an assumption. And the song is called "Initiation." it is probably called that because it is referring to a cult or group of some sort and he is being brought into it slowly and painfully. idk thats just my theory on the song. I love it. its so deep and amazing.
I would like to add to your theory and actually say that they ARE Evil. Guy on the left is Speak Evil Guy on the right is See Evil We the audience are hearing the song, we are Hear Evil Abel is not crossed out because he’s everything combined and is showing that by creating this song, this sinister shit, showing us that he is everything to the audience, as the narrator is on drugs and initiating the girl in context and if she wants to be in, she gotta meet Abel’s “boys” (guys in the picture/drugs) as she only knows Abel and everything is basically left for Abel to take care of, he is “The Host”
@@princekingkingprince Makes more sense and the girl refered in the song is the one ending being involved in this whole "initiation" which The Weeknd at time was into back then.i know that what you need isn’t in echoes of silence but the whole "taking the girl to the room to smash part" resonates really a lot with that song let’s just say that that’s Abel’s coincidental odd of using that topic in the song knowing that the time between these EPs aren’t at the same day ofc.
I loveeeee this song. The way the brat goes with the lyrics… sounds like he’s getting high then having a come down throughout. I don’t know if anyone gets it but the whole song is genius.
His lyrics are so deep it’s weird,he makes you feel how he feels (or aleast me) idk I js love him…he creates sh!t you can, feel and are able to visualize, tbh he inspires me
why is it that the guy on the left has his mouth uncovered and the guy on the right has his eyes uncovered? the way I'm seeing it is its supposed to mean "Speak evil, See evil, (and then us the audience) Hear evil." that would be tight
Making songs like this requires much more than a thirst for money. Abel clearly put his feelings and heart into this and made a fucking masterpiece of a song.
The Weeknd has helped me thru all my break ups but this time I think I need more music to get thru this break up just happened today. Anyone struggling just know you’re not alone...
I actually put this song on Halloween playlists because I think of it as horror R&B: Little Red Riding Hood's night out goes terribly wrong, and she ends up on a drug-fueled descent deeper and deeper into a den of wolves.
The weeknd bars be hittn me like a rapper except he singing..as a young black man his songs are relatable af whether its love.drugs..bitches or the streets..he’s my favorite artist of the new age singers..when i was homeless House of Balloons...Thursday..and Echos of Silence got me through those dark times Frfr because he also went through it and he speaks of it throughout his music...and when they remastered it and made trilogy i somehow had to order it offline from target even though i was living in a homeless shelter...Im a core fan since day one frfr..Thank you Abel
When The Weeknd says “boys” I think he’s referring to drugs. He says he has a lot of them. So I believe he’s trying to seduce this girl into taking drugs with him and having sex. His idea of an “initiation”. The picture also creeps me out because I see the guys holding him as “his boys”/ the drugs, yet he looks so innocent but it’s like they’re using him to “initiate” this female.

I heard this song a lot when I was in vacation in Las Vegas last year. I listened to it and it just gave the warm nights a different and good vibe. Made me forget about the shit going on at home. Just focused on Vegas and the shit that happened there.
Love how his songs were always soo dark and intense.. however, did anyone just notice that the tone of this song is like one of his own songs 'the fall'?
This song really never fucking gets old, I can't listen to it without playing it at least twice or three times. The sound and lyrics are insanely addictive and paralyzing.. one of my favorite for sure. What are your favorite songs from the Trilogy??
This, Birds Pt 2, Montreal, King of the Fall, Lonely Star, The Morning, Wicked Games, House Of Balloons, and Heaven or Las Vegas.... those are just from his first 3 albums. If I named every song I loved by him it’ll be over 50 haha.
the weeknd first producer, zodiac, literally referred to it as "dark RnB". Music doesn't have to be about suicide to be dark. Thats a very common term to describe music like this. If you actually listen to his lyrics hes talking about being emotionally empty and desperate. And he said that on his next album kiss land, he wanted to convey a feeling of pure fear.
Man I remember before he started to blow up big, I thought it was genius how he managed to foresee his own transition from underground to where he is now and managed to put it into a song.

There's just something I need from you
Is to meet my boys
I got a lot of boys
And we can make you right
And if you get too high
Baby come over here and ride it out
Ooh, yeah, ooh, yeah, ooh, yeah
Come over here and ride it out
Ooh, yeah, ooh, yeah, ooh, yeah

thumbnail/pic: left is see no evil, right is speak no evil, both cant hear it. he gets it all.
KamiK-V
He sees evil, speaks evil and hears evil. The left one sees evil, and righ one speaks it. Abel does it all.
Instead of drawing over the eyes and mouth to symbolize the cenzorship of evil, they've done the opposite, expressing evil.
And Abel is expressing it fully. Which is obvious if you observe his artwork.
Both of you are just pretentious fucks trying to reach for meaning than isn't there. Worse that english teachers analysing literature.
Llewellyn de Vries I mean usually that’s true but it kinda makes sense here
Ngl thought these were the guys that he had to fuck to get famous lol
@@llewellyndevries Thank you. "But it makes sense" yeah no shit it makes sense, you see 2 crazy ass dudes talking, they make perfect sense to each other.
The change in tone is to do with the come up and come down, on coke. You do it, you are feeling so high and lifted and off your head, but then shortly after you fall - this is when you need another line. You are urging for another - so you do it and come back up again. This is the cycle throughout the song.
It's such a terrible and addicting cycle.
I don't knooow coke don't keep a mufuker in a room for a week
SupremeArj not coke. Opiates and Extacy
nah, it's just the different upper and downers you continue to get fucked up on all night.. going up then down and back up and down with all types of shit. NOT just coke. I would know. Trust me.
Weeknd... raw passion and honesty. He has no shame. He puts it all out in the open. Artists express themselves however they feel
Best song transition , and timing . . . he needs much more recognition and credit for this than what is given.
Having a staring competition between me and the dude on the right..
me too, dude doesn*t blink....
I as doing the same thing
you tweakin? lol

this song is one of the deepest I have heard of him. the first guy is speak no evil.
💯💯..
I think abel sees, hear, and speaks it All thats why nothing is scratched out. Who knows though
I would like to add to your theory and actually say that they ARE Evil.
Guy on the left is Speak Evil
Guy on the right is See Evil
We the audience are hearing the song, we are Hear Evil
Abel is not crossed out because he’s everything combined and is showing that by creating this song, this sinister shit, showing us that he is everything to the audience, as the narrator is on drugs and initiating the girl in context and if she wants to be in, she gotta meet Abel’s “boys” (guys in the picture/drugs) as she only knows Abel and everything is basically left for Abel to take care of, he is “The Host”
@@princekingkingprince
Makes more sense and the girl refered in the song is the one ending being involved in this whole "initiation" which The Weeknd at time was into back then.i know that what you need isn’t in echoes of silence but the whole "taking the girl to the room to smash part" resonates really a lot with that song let’s just say that that’s Abel’s coincidental odd of using that topic in the song knowing that the time between these EPs aren’t at the same day ofc.
It's a song about passing a drug fiending girl between his friends so she can show she truly loves him.
I loveeeee this song. The way the brat goes with the lyrics… sounds like he’s getting high then having a come down throughout. I don’t know if anyone gets it but the whole song is genius.
His lyrics are so deep it’s weird,he makes you feel how he feels (or aleast me) idk I js love him…he creates sh!t you can, feel and are able to visualize, tbh he inspires me
Weeknd might be agud at sum but he nowhere near real prince six gomunkul 6
@@bubblesxo2mt6prince is the Michael Jackson we have at home
The Weekend is Ruth Chris steakhouse
why is it that the guy on the left has his mouth uncovered and the guy on the right has his eyes uncovered?
the way I'm seeing it is its supposed to mean "Speak evil, See evil, (and then us the audience) Hear evil."
that would be tight
dope
^^🙌
I agree
you're high for this.

2:47 my favorite part, abel really killed it
Making songs like this requires much more than a thirst for money. Abel clearly put his feelings and heart into this and made a fucking masterpiece of a song.
Abel and the entire xo community saved my life. I love y’all so much. Fr
I can't stop coming back to this song. There is something so addicting about the sound and mood of this track!!
- rappers : using autotune to adjust their voice
- the weeknd: using autotune brilliantly to creat perfection

The Weeknd has helped me thru all my break ups but this time I think I need more music to get thru this break up just happened today. Anyone struggling just know you’re not alone...
wouldnt be ere without this.
i can't describe how much i miss these kinda songs
saaaaame
Dila G. I feel you on this man
Am I the only one who loves how deep and dark this song is ?
Definition of sex .
really kinky sex
Definition of drugs .
Shivani Negandhi oh yes baby
sex + drugs, son!
I actually put this song on Halloween playlists because I think of it as horror R&B: Little Red Riding Hood's night out goes terribly wrong, and she ends up on a drug-fueled descent deeper and deeper into a den of wolves.
His music makes me feel ok when my life is falling apart and I'm about to break. His voice is so beautiful I can't even explain it! Ily Abel💘
Never heard anything so dark in my entire life this is Gold
i cant even explain the feelings this shit gives me, its genius and i feel it through the music

At 3:47 does anyone else notice that, that is the faster version of a note he sings in often
" i got a test for you, you said you want my heart" i sang that line prefect haha
i wanna hear :)
Ok.
Two things can be true
No he’s talking about his boys he got a lot of trappers in his car didn’t u hear
this song is about running train on a girl but imo has a double meaning irt to drugs. but on the surface it's definitely just abt running train lol
Boys is slang for heroin
Definitely about a train on a drunk/high girl
This guy can sing,he can rap,he’s a music god
I miss this so much
I miss this from The Weeknd. I mean, I'll always support his success, but duuuuude... this stuff is so emotional and legit.
Amazing. Hope all weeknd fans get to experience this song 🔥
this song is insane i back to old albums everyday, legend
The way he switch voices high and low? So smooth. He does it so well. Wow.
It took me years to be able to appreciate this song. It took me years to really appreciate this song, but once I understood this shit. . . I choose to this album wisely. This is my "get me the fuck out of my life, I don't do drugs but need a heavy fucking escape" album. This album legit makes my body feel drugged AF.
Underated. ive loved this song for years
His highs and lows from drugs are his tone and it’s amazing
If you're listening it in '21 you've elite taste buds
hey LMAO

The the true, underlining meaning of the music is what's beautiful.
song full of DEMONS.
when i die i need a stat of how many times I've played this song throughout my life, i think just this past year has been like at least 170 plays, its #6 on my top songs this year w my #1 song being at 221 sooo
i haven't left dis little room, tryna concentrate to breathe.
you sir have gr8 taste in music
I listened to this years ago thinking it was just an amazing song, and a couple months ago I re visited it again while actually listening to the lyrics. It's a whole new song knowing the story
I still remember when I first heard this song I was like Damnn this Homie killed it & had it on repeat back2back Dope ASS song TillWeOverDose
"That north north that up top that ovo and that xo" sick!
thats actually drakes voice that has been distorted
Listening to this can keep you out of your thoughts especially when your an over thinker.. zoning out to the beats and the lyrics to this can put you in a whole better mood with that low feeling still there but your happy to have it there cause music like this has both that low and high feeling ..💯💯
really miss his old music.
it was so beautiful
The production in this is ridiculous. The instrumental would fit great with many a horror movie and his voice sounds haunted on it's own. Dopeness.
can't believe how many years have passed but i am still coming back to listen to these songs with the same joy
supreme yo same but this song is nasty😂 how does he get away with talking about gang banging?
I heard this song a lot when I was in vacation in Las Vegas last year. I listened to it and it just gave the warm nights a different and good vibe. Made me forget about the shit going on at home. Just focused on Vegas and the shit that happened there.
every word that comes out of Abel’s mouth is poetry
Sin never sounded so good.
69th like lmao yes
Love how his songs were always soo dark and intense.. however, did anyone just notice that the tone of this song is like one of his own songs 'the fall'?
This song really never fucking gets old, I can't listen to it without playing it at least twice or three times. The sound and lyrics are insanely addictive and paralyzing.. one of my favorite for sure.
What are your favorite songs from the Trilogy??
For me I might have to go with this song... The Birds Pt. 2, and The Zone. But they always change....
This, Birds Pt 2, Montreal, King of the Fall, Lonely Star, The Morning, Wicked Games, House Of Balloons, and Heaven or Las Vegas.... those are just from his first 3 albums. If I named every song I loved by him it’ll be over 50 haha.
Mine is Life of The Party.
Coming down and the birds pt 2
Its his voice . its sooo soothing doesnt matter what he sings about. i could listen to all his albums song for song .
Definitely one of the most badass tunes. Is in my top 3
its been 10 years and it still hits the same
does it hit as hard as your dad?
I've listened to this song so much and always come back to it. Such a hot song
And I love the double meaning, when he says ‘I got a lotta boys, and we can make you righhhhht’.
the weeknd first producer, zodiac, literally referred to it as "dark RnB". Music doesn't have to be about suicide to be dark. Thats a very common term to describe music like this. If you actually listen to his lyrics hes talking about being emotionally empty and desperate. And he said that on his next album kiss land, he wanted to convey a feeling of pure fear.
this is my favorite song of the weeknd
Favorite song by far. I feel like this song is one of kind.
one of my favorite darkest songs from him.
This song reminds me of diddy parties
"And I ain't left this little room, Tryna concentrate to breathe"
Still gets me after 12 years
Hands down one of his best songs.
Man I remember before he started to blow up big, I thought it was genius how he managed to foresee his own transition from underground to where he is now and managed to put it into a song.
The darkness of his music is absolutely beautiful ❤️ 2017 and always come back to the originals 😍
High as fuck man. This song is a dark twist. Vibing to it !
