Wow here we have managed to gather the very best of the high-performance EVs out there for a big group review and comparison.
    Tesla Model S 3 X and Y Long Range Performance (includes P85D, P90D, P100D and LRP)
    Polestar 2 including Performance pack
    BMW i4 M50
Porsche Taycan incl RWD, 4S, Turbo and Turbo s
    Audi Etron GT
The are all VERY fast electric cars which can satisfy any need for speed from the petrolheads out there!
What’s good, what’s bad about each? We’ll I’ll give you my review. I’ve live with and owned each of these so would like to think reasonably well qualified to advise! But they’re just my opinions and each one is absolutely brilliant so whichever you have or choose - I don’t blame you!

    You're right Richard.
The S is still the car that moved the goalposts, set the benchmarks and forced the change.
If the other manufacturers were honest, it's the car that's responsible for at least 60% (more!) of the (non-Chinese) EVs on the road today.

Had model S for about 7 years P90DL, picked up MYLR 3 weeks ago. MY is probably the best all round car I've ever owned, my wife loves it. But, despite the size of the MS, slightly less practical boot and interior space (for a family), also pricey elements that might need attention eventually, there is just something about it. I'll always love it the most. Brilliant car.

Bought a Model 3 Performance from you in December. Absolutely loving it. It just does everything so well.
Things that have impressed me the most? It's performance obviously, when I left your showroom and put my foot down for the first time is something that will stay with me for a while, and it's fun to scare passengers who just don't expect it. The stereo is also brilliant like you say. I must also say the efficiency of it has really impressed me. I went upto Yorkshire for a long weekend and on the return journey I challenged myself to do it none stop!
It was 250miles back to Gloucestershire, it was 11deg and heavy showers but the car did it. With 40miles of range left. That was 97% motorway.
Over 3000 miles done in it and the average efficiency is just below 250wh/m.
Things I don't like? Not much. I do wish it was a bit more distinctive and interesting to look at, every other EV you see is a Model 3!

Just finished a 7500km (4650 mile) summer vacation in a Model 3 LR, travelling from central Norway to the UK and back via France and Germany. That included 3000km in 3 days for the outward journey. My conclusion is that it is a fantastic car for long distance travel. Even at german speeds i can drive over well 2 hours between charges, and recharge for another 2+ hours in the time it takes to walk the dog, take a pee and drink some coffee. Luggage space is restrictive with respect to large objects, but it will actually take a huge amount of stuff if you pack it well. And the supercharger network genuinely makes it easier to travel with than an ICE.
My only complaints are the road noise, which is really only a big issue on rough roads (Sweden and Norway basically), and the sometimes obscure locations for supercharger stations.

    • @janisb.9986

The same here, did some 3000 km in Tesla ModelY LR through the EU (Belgim, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Baltic States). Tesla Supercharger network and the range + storage space of the car makes it a perfect family car for long journeys.

Genius rapid fire overview, you covered some ground. Ive driven my 2014 P85 Model S 125,000 UK miles. its RWD and I find I like the handling of the RWDs. Just been mountain biking chucked my 29er full suspension mountain bike in the back wheels on! Its so comfy and to be honest in pearl white, cream interior, with black 19" wheels, red calipers, sun roof delete black roof, Alcantara headlining, carbon spolier it still looks the dogs, still 250 miles range and............ its free to charge! Got a Plaid on order plus Roadster (if it ever happens 5 years is a long time to wait) but I may even save the cash and keep the 2012 design classic, its so good and still holds its own today.........bizarre car!

I’ve been driving a Polestar 2 for nearly 2 years and would probably still choose it again today. I love the design, the OTA updates and the spec & performance is awesome for the price. The BMW i4 is up there, but like you mentioned - it’s smaller in the back and would cost another £20k over the Polestar 2.
Little things annoying me too - I couldn’t buy a car which defaulted to lane assist on. Having to disable that each time I drove it would wind me up - Hyundai and Kia - I’m looking at you !
My P2 goes back in September 2023 so I will most likely need to get my replacement ordered by the end of this year. I’m waiting on the Polestar 3 SUV - kinda hoping Polestar don’t just release the £110k version first, but also another cheaper spec version 🤞🏻

You mentioned that the BMW i4 has an electric retractable tow hook but didn't mention that the Polestar 2 also has this option (semi-electric). There was also mention of the sculpted battery pack for more leg space in the back set of the Audi (IIRC) and the Polestar also has this. Software updates, glass roof, etc.... I’ve been following EV’s when we really had three or four options in the U.K. changed days now. The line up just shows how varied the EV market has evolved. And unless I missed it (sorry had this on while doing other stuff) this didn’t include brands like Hyundai that aren’t regarded performance but still amazing Cars just on looks alone.
I’ve always wanted to drive a EV from Glasgow to Durness on one of my favourite road trips following the west coast taking in a good part of the NC 500 and I just think the Porsche would be the absolute stand out. If the lottery came up it’s the Car I’d choose 😂 fingers crossed 🤞 I actually stood beside your distressed looking Porsche at a EV day at the Gaydon motor museum last year, you were probably standing near it but hadn’t watched your Ev channel to any great extent at the time so didn’t connect that this was a car I’d seen on the TV. I didn’t travel down from Glasgow for the EV show it just worked that I visited the same Saturday. Test driven all but the Polestar. Tesla are the market leaders on range and driving tech; Porsche is the best and sharpest handling. I have ordered and will take delivery in September of the Audi RS e-torn GT - best day to day drive, easily fast enough, you don’t see many on the road so has the exclusivity appeal, range for me personally is sufficient especially with more fast charges coming, and just looks stunning. Thanks Tesla for driving the EV market forward and Porsche for the shared platform……

Outside of that I can’t help but love the Audi. Don’t know why but from various reviews I’ve seen (including your Scotland to London trip) they just seem so nice and capable for long trips too. Prefer it above the Porsche even though at heart they are the same vehicle. Just personal preference. (Which is odd as as a long term petrol head I’ve always loved Porches, esp the 911, as my favourite dream car for years as they are so usable on the road!)

Replaced my M3P with a Taycan Turbo recently and often get asked which I prefer.
Looks - although the Tesla looked ground breaking when it came out, they’re everywhere now and are starting to look a bit dated. The Porsche turns heads everywhere.
Driving - The M3P is properly quick, and on paper, similar to the Taycan. It did however feel like a fast saloon car whereas the Porsche drives like a Porsche. I miss the one pedal driving though.
Quality - No comparison. The Tesla was starting to rattle and feel its age after 2 years although initial build quality was good. The Taycan is in a different league.
Tech - Tesla wins this one for me. Although it needs a driver display console, everything was where you wanted it and just worked. Porsche PCM isn’t as intuitive and has flaked out on me a few times. Parking cameras are better on the Tesla - the Porsche wheel cams are essential. I also miss the gear change stalk, being able to go through width restrictions and Superchargers.
Overall - £55k v £135k isn’t a fair fight so kudos to Tesla for beating the Porsche in some areas, I loved my Tesla but I think I love the Taycan a bit more.

May I add that you in Europe have the Tesla Plaid to look forward to....I can't see ANY MANUFACTURER in the very near future to be able to do this!!!!......
A Tesla Model S Plaid in Napierville, Quebec set the new record for the fastest quarter-mile time for the electric sedan at 8.83 seconds and 161mph.
The Model S had a stripped out interior for weight savings, as well as SV104 wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson drag radials at the rear and Michelin PS4 tires on the front.
Not content with the blistering fast time, the same Model S Plaid has set a new record this week. At the same track in Napierville the Model S crossed the line in just 8.77 seconds at 162.55mph (261.60km/h), a 5.67 second 1/8 mile time and an outstanding 125MPH to 162MPH time in 3.1 seconds!!!
As for what changed that allowed the car to go faster this time the owner, TMC user mulot30th, said there was an additional 60lb weight saving over the previous attempt due to someone else being behind the wheel on the run.
Additionally he said there a slight change to the suspension.
“Main change is suspension geometry change (slight) which reduce “tire drag” a little bit at least that is what I intended to do with that and have worked,” he said.
Interestingly, the top speed at the end of his quarter mile run of 162.55mph is inches away from the electronically limited top speed (when not in Track Mode) of 163mph.
As first told earlier this week, Quebec-based Ingenext was able to hack their way past that limiter and reached a top speed of 216mph (347km/h).
As for this Model S Plaid, the owner says that while the car does not feel like it is slowing down when crossing the line, he feels there is not much room to improve beyond 8.77s with the current setup, but a BIG brake option available from Tesla and several other Tesla specific after market parts dealers at a much reduced price, and TOP OF THE LINE HIGH SPEED RATED STREET TIRES should also be used!
You can check out the record runs both of TOP SPEED and FASTEST QUARTER MILE time on several UA-cam channels
