I like the sound of whiskey Wednesday. I saw her shortly after she was open, still free. I had recently retired after 25yrs, I was an airdale but the BB's fascinated me. I saw some davits/stuff on the deck and asked a volunteer what they did. This guy had a ball cap that looks like what he was issued in the 50's. Nice guy and I asked about his service, retired USAF! They were for unrep refueling. Looking forward to a return and see more of the boat.
I'm glad to have been raised near this piece of history. I remember everytime I went to Norfolk with my dad, we went and saw Big Whisky. She will always be apart of my childhood ❤❤
@@matthewdockter2424 I bet it is a ton of work, but seems really worthwhile to both help support the efforts but also share with people that can’t make it there. Really neat to see how much of this stuff is starting to get out there between Texas, Iowa, New Jersey and now Wisconsin (I’m sure there are more out there).
She is on my bucket list... Just did the dry dock tour of her Sister a few weekends ago. Didn't have time in the budget to swing south to see her then.. Will be coming back for full tours of both.
I was in Portsmouth, VA early in the morning to catch her being moved from where she was berthed to start her trip to the Nauticus. Got a great photo of her at dawn just before the move.
Visited the Wisconsin in September 2003 with my dad. Definitely want to come back to it and take a tour since we ciuldnt go inside her then. My dad passed five years ago and would love to revisit. ❤
Born in Norfolk, mom was a manager for Nauticus at one point, and my uncle's got a restaurant in Nauticus ~The Norfolk Grille, make sure to check it out, especially if you like Greek food 😉~yet i've just learned more about Wisconsin than i ever did when i was physically there, I just know the 16in .50cal rifles basically shoot a whole Volkswagen Beetle
We do not. One thing we do is maintain our underwater husbandry with a company located here in Norfolk. They inspect, clean and paint when needed every year. This hopefully we keep us from needing a drydock. Thanks for watching!
@@keithnitka9806 Thanks for the response. Could you use a movable coffer dam to paint the wind water line as the USS Iowa museum uses. If under hull issues arose I'm assuming divers would be employed?
It was my good fortune to visit Wisconsin twice while she was in Philadelphia, once in 1995 and once in 1996. She was tied up inboard of her sister Iowa and it was so impressive to see two battleships together. I saw Wisconsin again in 2002 at Nauticus. My name should still appear in her deck log book which my friend Senior Chief Frederick J. Pogmore both signed in 1995. On that occasion we also received a tour of CV 67 John F. Kennedy and was able to photograph Iowa and Wisconsin from her flight deck. Just saw the Kennedy again in April 2024 while visiting New Jersey in drydock. Sad to see that Kennedy is going for scrap later this year.
I would like to see a collaborative video across all the battleship museum ships detailing the differences in the de-mil process each ship underwent... for instance, Iowa can traverse her turrets, but New Jersey's power and control cables were cut in the de-mil process... what other differences are there?..
Thank you for the video. Do you have any plans to drydock Wisconsin for bottom cleaning and painting such as New Jersey in the near future ? Looks like her Boot topping could use a new coat of paint.
We do not. One thing we do is maintain our underwater husbandry with a company located here in Norfolk. They inspect, clean and paint when needed every year. This hopefully we keep us from needing a drydock. We do have a contract with a local shipyard for the freeboard and boot topping to be painted next summer. Thanks for watching!
Interesting little back story there. The Iowa-class has been my personal favorite class of battleship out there. Seeing them on camera doesn't do anyone justice. You have to see them in person in order to really get a glimpse of the sheer size of these great vessels. Just out of curiosity, with USS New Jersey's time in drydock coming to an end, are there any plans to move Wisconsin to drydock for any form of maintenance?

@@keithnitka9806 That's a nice system you guys got there. No wonder why Wisconsin looks so immaculate compared to her sisters. I'll definitely go down there one of these days to visit her.
When is BB 64 going into dry dock? New Jersey BB 62 is coming out of dry dock Friday, if everything goes well. They work on the hull. Painting it, new anodes installed and installed double plating at the bow. So how is your hull holding up?
We do not have any plans for drydocking. One thing we do is maintain our underwater husbandry with a company located here in Norfolk. They inspect, clean and paint when needed every year as well as maintain our cathodic protection system. I am told that the hull is as thick as it was the day she was launched in 1943. This hopefully we keep us from needing a drydock. Thanks for watching!
I wonder if battleship Wisconsin could actually make it through the St Lawrence Seaway and into Lake michigan? I know the shipyards in Wisconsin can handle thousand Footers!! I'd like to see the Wisconsin in Wisconsin sometime in the future?! 👍
We have the SPS-49 spinning to add more "life" to the museumship. Scroll through the videos, we did a video from the radar platform about the 49. Thanks for watching!

I like the nod to the Battleship New Jersey video opening. Looking forward to more!
I hope Nauticus aims to keep Ryan's production pace. 64 deserves to have the story documented in such ways!

The Wisconsin is my last Iowa class to visit. I had to cancel a trip in April 2024 to visit her.
USS New Jersey is my home port.
@@dwayne7356 The Black Dragon's new paint looks great... I hope you got a chance to see her on the blocks...
To those who haven't been the Wisconsin is a must see while in Norfolk.

I visited a few years back and it was a fantastic time, paid for the guided tour and it was super.
WisKy is looking good! 👍🏻
Beautiful ship

I came down there once a few years ago and I have to make another trip. Wisconsin is in the best shape ... awesome to walk around.
Nice to see the battleship New Jersey intro on her sister ship

Now that the USS New Jersey has been dry-docked, what are the plans to dry dock the USS Wisconsin?

Thx4 the info. I knew the "basics" ...now I know more. ⚓
Glad this was in my suggested videos while watching the New Jersey updates! Looking forward to more videos. New sub.

I am a Wisconsin resident and have visited the Wisconsin around 05 or 06 only thing open on my visit was the main deck. Very cool to me.
We have much more open and it sounds like its time for another visit! Thank you for watching

Why the radar is working?
How battle ready is the Wisconsin?

From the picture it looks like Whisky is INBOARD, not outboard of the Iowa.
That was a test to see who was paying attention. Thanks for watching!
How are the Submarines Tendered to now that there are onyl 2 Active Submarine Tenders in the fleet?

It is my understanding that Wisconsin is too large to pass thru the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Why is the radar operating?

Great info, but lots of numbers, maybe text as it gets said
Thank you for the feedback Barry. The video does have closed captioning so there is text generated as I am speaking. Thank you for watching!
