Good thing I am a Hindu. I can worship multiple Gods. She is the mandolin goddess I worship. She is simply unbelievable! And so were the Tenor banjo and guitar players. Feast to eyes and ears.
To be fair, I think, U. Srinivas which lived in South India was the actual undisputed mandolin champion ,-) hhha but I love your comment ^^ He did play carnatic classical music tho , I wonder how he would have done with Bluegrass on a octave size mandolin (ua-cam.com/video/qrIepcMALCI/v-deo.html) and here with western Jazz collegues ua-cam.com/video/VA7Mzo73cd4/v-deo.html
The way she smiles and sways gently whilst stepping high on the rythym steady chugging along is just adorably neat and clean yet is not just one aspect of her flow musically speaking or her total presence just flows like a river her soloing style is melodic voicing coming from a factory power plant of back beat and is so intentional from the very first note to the last . She is a rare blooming flower indeed , may she live long and multiply! She has got it!
Wow, excellent. We know she's a great player but she always has this wonderful presence and energy projected when she plays. It's really a combination that makes her so unique and entertaining. WTG Sierra! ~JSV
You don'y know how in love I am with this brilliant player - she is one of half a dozen people I have ever seen playing my chosen instrument and she is incredible! What a talent.. oh the guys are quite good too! SIERRA PLEASE COME TO EUROPE!!
+Laura Woodswalker YEP ! Her playing will do that LOL. I loved being able to capture this video for all to enjoy :) Thanks for your nice comment Laura :) .... Steve
When the eyes of that musical angel get serious... the rhythm, sound and feelings just get deeper, she becomes magic and her music turns into a rain of colorful flowers.
That octave mandolin looks and sounds fantastic, I wish I could find an F style octave mando that didn't cost as much as my truck, but, that being said, SHE IS FANTASTIC and I LOVE this performance, all the players are quite talented, thanks for posting :)
Sierra Hull and her husband Justin Moses are two of the greatest Bluegrass/Newgrass musicians of today. SIerra has complete mastery of her mandolin while Moses is up there with the best on Dobro, Guitar, Banjo ,Violin, Mandolin and Violin. That multi-instrumentalist guy is on a totally different level.
that version is uptempo to hell and will be hard to be match.. great job. come back and back again and again... my classical composer background is both amaze an thankfull.
This is very popular in the region : playing guitars etc.... really well! She grew up playing the Mandolin I read. . Another good video is "Bert Jansch and Martin Jenkins - Bittern". . Martin plays the Mandocello. Bittern is a bird, FYI.
That ther is the best tone of any gosh dangdest mando chopper I seen in these here mountains since Bill Monroe's ghost showed up in the McBandy's barn in '82. Mhmmm. *spits tabbacy*
Erk alors, back to the drawing board for me.. She is AMAZING! Wish more people played this wonderful instrument over here - it's bouzoukis and tenor banjos here.. I'm sticking to my octave mando though, it's brighter, more flexible and I love it
I have been trying to find the name of the guitar player. Love that he breaks all the rules and plays an inexpensive old Yamaha acoustic and it sounds every bit as good as any high-end boutique guitar. Guy's a monster BG player
Sierra, as a music lover, I want to hear ALL your songs. As a musician, I want to learn your smooth expertise. As a man, I want to kiss your pretty smile. As UA-camr, I want to watch all your videos!
What a phenom performance and great sounding octave mandolin as well, Is it an Olson? Anyone happen to know what the scal length might be approx? Seems to be about 20 inches, but that's essentially a guess. This makes me want to procure an octave mando.....it also makes me want to practice more bu that's an ongoing feeling@!!
There are some who like to pee and moan about how current music sucks. Then there are folks like Sierra. Incredible virtuoso, but not a show-off, It's not like Sierra just fell off the proverbial turnip truck, growing musically before our eyes since sixth grade. Such a down-to-earth, approachable person. Sierra really rocks.
Played in a minor key, the Octave Mandolin has the most haunting range and tone. I gotta go now and look at her other stuff. I wonder if she ever looks and down at her own fingers in wonder?
No sir... It NOT a mandola. A mandola is only slightly larger than a mandolin. If you look at the caption of the video you will see clearly stated by the author... OCTAVE MANDOLIN.
I have a Mendel OM that I love to noodle on. Seeing Sierra totally rock her Weber reaffirms I have a long long way to go. The scary part is she's up there on stage enjoying herself and not even breaking a sweat. Imagine Alison Krauss calling up Sierra and asking her to join the band on tour! Now that would be a treat. After all, they have played together on a previous occasion or two. Alison?
Sierra has her own distinctive sound. I can't describe it but when you hear it you say. Yeah that's Sierra playing. Great musicians have that. Listen to Itzhak Perlman or Yo Yo Ma.
Really like the octave mandolin. Never heard of it til one came up on used site. It’s a gold tone. It seems decent, maybe I’ll get it...what tuning did she use?
She can't, yet, be compared to Thile in overall musical mastery of the instrument. But I don't think that anyone, including Thile, can beat SH when it comes to smooth, fast legato. Each note is separate clear as a bell without being staccato. Amazing.
+oldwest517 Its not a fair comparison. Hes playing a mandolin and shes playing an octave. Shes got a lot more room to play with to hit those frets just right. Thile is in a league of his own. If there is ever another mando player that reaches his level that person is currently a child or hasnt yet been born. Dont look to adult players to ever catch up to Thile. The older you get you lose energy and dexterity.
@@thunorwodenson I actually like Hull's playing better than Thile. There is no doubt that he has an absolute mastery of the instrument, I just think that (1) she does also, and (2) there is much more feeling in her playing, much more 'statement', much more that she's saying something with the music and not just showing that she can play many notes quickly. Of course we all have our favorites, but your contention that she isn't in the same class as Thile just sounds like prejudice.
Is that Daryl Anger's Gilchrist octave mandolin ("The Mandola") that was used on the "Duo" project back in the early 80's? It is a great ax whoever built it.
Uno bellissimo stile pieno di radici blues celtico country bluegrass blues ! Unica ❤
Virtuoso, incredibly gifted musician.
She is one of the cleanest players of any stringed instrument I have ever heard. Just astonishing talent and ability.
Her touch is absolutely exquisite - she is an astounding, my favourite mandoplayer
Very good indeed
I love this music.
I'm just learning the mandolin.
One I master my little treasure I'm getting an Octave. God its so deep & rich
Feel it in your soul
Good thing I am a Hindu. I can worship multiple Gods. She is the mandolin goddess I worship. She is simply unbelievable! And so were the Tenor banjo and guitar players. Feast to eyes and ears.
That’s not a Tenor Banjo, it’s what is called a five string.the tuning peg half way up the neck is a giveaway.
@@Pete-z6e and she is not playing a mandolin. Looks more like a mandala to me.
@@jjmuni It's an octave mandolin as mentioned in the description.

Damn, she's my goddess! incredible talent, incredible voice! I absolutely love her!
Quite simply the BEST then and now. 🙂
Everytime I watch this I'm amazed and so happy it's on YT...thank you!!😊

She has that magical IT that I cannot put IT into words but I know IT when I hear IT. My Goodnees!
*The mandolin goddess plays with her whole body. Especially with bold and skilled fingers, then such beautiful music is created. Great the other too.
Her playing is hypnotic. So quick and clean.
And she sings amazingly well. A monopoly on talent.
LOVE this woman!!!! She just KILLS it every time. Amazing talent!
Sweet Holy Moley, that is how you do it kids! She is AMAZING! Hardly anyone plays the Octave in Britain and Ireland - me and a handful of others..
No...but but bouzouki players abound!!
my new favorite artists i didnt know existed a month ago wow.
I saw her live recently and it was fantastic, but this performance is unbelievable.

Good writing. Poetic. Describes Sierra nicely.
