    I train Thai Boxing and one guy in sparring hits me with a side kick on 1 of 10 occasions. Sounds little but that one hit felt like it shifted by ribs into another dimension last week. I can usually dodge, parry, grab his leg or put him off balance but I wanted to find a counter to really punish him for trying the side kick shenanigan. Had no idea I would land on a TKD video (not very familiar with the sport). Your technique and(!) explanation is crisp as a fresh lettuce mate. Will def check out some of your fights. ThaiBoxing is a tad different but I'll make sure to adapt this technique. Huge thanks!

      James Miles What do you mean he can’t defend the side kick? You’ve just seen him do it.

    • @jamesmiles5662
      @jamesmiles5662 5 років тому

      Rickster Music this taekwondo ??,idea sidekick is not always to land the kick,its to set up other shots too,any good kickboxer when kick comes soon as foot plants down your hands are backing it up,so block sidekick your eating hands,push sidekick away your eating spinning backfist or elbow,these are all stuff can’t use in taekwondo and they never use there hands,sidekick also great kick for fucking people knees up savate style chasse bas or Jon Jones good at,again not allowed in taekwondo,this is why Muay Thai is better hardly any rules and Mma get to find out what really works in knockout fighting not points,

    • @ricksterdrummer2170
      @ricksterdrummer2170 5 років тому

      James Miles This is a Taekwondo video. I thought it was obvious with the suit and the fact that a Taekwondo champion is in the video. Wanna talk about MMA or Muay Thai then you’re on the wrong channel.

    • @jamesmiles5662
      @jamesmiles5662 5 років тому +1

      Rickster Music no we was talking about sidekick ????,I do karate and Muay Thai,sidekick is kick used all time in karate and it’s by far the best kick because so hard to defend against,like I say it’s best used with hands followed,or hidden behind punches,your saying this guy showing you that can defend against it,but it’s taekwondo loads off rules,he ain’t going to get hit with spinning backfists elbows knees,or knee stomps,

    • @ricksterdrummer2170
      @ricksterdrummer2170 5 років тому

      James Miles Who the fuck cares? He’s a Taekwondo fighter. I don’t think he cares about elbows or spinning backfists..

    Man, I wouldn't wanna be up against him in a sparring match since my main techniques are the side-kick and dwit.
    Also, you can really see the difference between tutorials which are copies of one another and tutorials where someone actually put thought into it and took into consideration multiple variables. I wanna facepalm every time I hear someone saying "just push his leg down". Like, the opponent can be faster, he can have really strong gluteus medius muscles, he can have a lot of explosive power and speed, he can have a lot of control, just one of those variables being true can make the "push his leg down" extremely ineffective and, in the end, stupid as it leaves your head wide open for a nasty kick to it.
    Really, props to you for giving such high-quality tips on side kick counters. Taekwon!

    This looks to me like it's ATA instead of World Taekwondo Federation. But the counters and kicks are the same. I love this video. I've been a big fan of this channel for years this channel helped me learn how to break some of the more advanced kicks down so I could teach my students proficiently (when I taught taekwondo before I smashed my tailbone 😅) Thanks a bunch for always showing real martial arts instead of some of those other channels that just think they are helping people but are sadly just misinforming because they are as experienced as other people.

    But what if the opponent throws the sidekick to your face?
    Also I have seen some kickboxers jump on one leg towards their opponents, with their front leg chambered for the sidekick. How would you approach that?
