Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: Being unable to get out much...I sure miss going to the shows. For 30 of my years I lived in Western Washington State and made it to all the local, state, regional shows. I can smell the popcorn and taste the icy cold Coca-Cola now! Great memories! Thank you for taking me along!
Awesome Show, You bought cool things… Ohh Your in on showcase was nice… Those crates, I don’t get to those kinds of sights (Yet) lol So def would have went nuts on those… Thanks Brother 😊👍
Louisiana here, we have a show here the 3rd week of August. I save all my change all year long and whatever I have when I cash it in is what I spend at the show. I pick up pennies in the parking lot.
At 33 minutes in, that looks like a piece of Turkish Stick Agate. I also watched your video about the Slab’asaurus vise, ordered one from Nick Braun, and am really happy with it. Thanks for your informative videos!
The show was awesome! Wish we had something like that here in Virginia! All we have are a few shops with some polished or raw stones! No slabs anywhere! The idea of labels on everything is great because some of the stones you showed I didn't know what they were! I just had to make labels for my stuff in the store that I get to sell a few things in! I am not very knowledgeable about a lot of the stones I have, but I need to get some books to study up on! I might try to find an online gem and mineral class to help me! That picture jasper was really cool! Thanks for sharing!
I want to make hinged wall or tabletop displays for both cabs and minerals, but instead of white backgrounds and labels use black, and find small letters in either silver or brass for labeling. It would be awesome to find some with pinned backs, but gluing flat ones in place would be almost as good. I want them hinged so the displays can be opened for a hands-on experience.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding Well i went today instead Sunday and the crates of rocks were already gone, but i did alright i got some picture jasper and a couple of other items i`ve been looking for.
I love this season because everyone is taking us to the rock and gem shows and it's so cool to see what's new and exciting in this field. And to see any new and different materials out there. And you lovely people take us along, to see it with you. When you are handicapped, you tend to love these virtual tours, of these events. And I like the cases. They were quite different from last year's. That galena of Curtis's, is gorgeous. I like the look of the mineral and want some so bad! That is such a big show this year. It didn't look that big last year. Maybe it's because it was in Portland in last year? Maybe I heard you wrong. That was an awesome show and your slabs you picked out, were awesome. Gorgeous picture jaspers. Thank you for the tour of the show.
Awesome show! So many of the display cases are really fantastic. I agree with you guys about the labels and information. There are such great prices there especially compared to the smaller shows I've been to in MT. That mainly red agate you said that you weren't sure what it was, might have been a chopstick agate or called lattice agate sometimes too. I'm not sure because the ones I've seen have had a lot more sticks/tubes with much busier patterns in them. Check them out and see what you think, it's a possibility. Thanks so much for sharing your time at the show with us! Have a great weekend.✌️🤠🤘
Less is more. I think most of the cases are too full of material. I understand people want to show off, but they become garish when there's too much. The material you said you didn't know what it was at 33:00 is Turkish Stick Agate. Also, if you want a challenge, try polishing a Septarian Nodule on your high speed sander. It's really soft and quite the task. That's a fairly large show. Thanks for showing it off.
I think that's a bit of personal preference but I do agree with you. At one point even in my display cases I had far too much but now I'm starting to thin the heard some. Turkish stick agate is something new to me but they sure do look cool.
I know its a little hard to hear on this video but we were talking about the bull wheel which is just a big spinning rubber wheel that you put belts on.
So often things like cut slabs that are for sale get put in tubs of water or there will be a near by spray bottle so that you can see what it will look like when polished.

I love looking at the cases too. Nice. Wow, good thing I like to window shop.
There was really some amazing material.

Not even half way through the video and I swear I saw some fordite 🤩 S.P.O.RK. 👊
I have been wondering what it's like to work with stuff like that. I assume it's actually pretty soft compared to rocks.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding I hope to find out 😁
Thanks for the preview, I suppose I'll check out the show!
That's an awesome show. I wish my local gem and mineral show was this big.
It really was a good show.

1:50 the coolest concept ever!
It really is very cool to see.
Hi guys! Great to see Sara. Fun to see some of the displays. Thanks.
Thank you!

I hope you have a fun time at the show.
Good!
A fun trip. Lots and lots and lot of rocks. It looked like it was going to be a big hit. I was glad you and Sara got to go. Thanks for sharing! 😷⚒
I`m going on Sunday, picture jasper is the main thing
on my list this year and maybe one of those 20 dollar crates, thanks for the sneak peek.
The crates of rock for $20 is a pretty good value.

I remember those old mineral collections as a kid! Brings back some memories...Thanks for sharing
Holy cow...those $20 bins!!!! Wow!
It always pays off to go on the first day of a show.
Stop by Irv's Rocks and Jewelry's booth and say howdy! Love those guys.
They were really busy with people when we were there. I hope to do something with them in the future for a video.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding Liz has faceted a number of stones for me and my family. Besides having lots of awesome rocks, they're just fun people.
Very cool Thank you...
I'm glad you liked it.

we are making plans to visit and rockhound a bit in your area...not sure when yet
In about a month or so a lot of the locations will be free of snow.
"It's worth it for me for you to carry these around." LOL, something I would say to my husband at a rock show.
Ha! :D
I probably would’ve bought at least five crates for 20 bucks apiece wow what a great deal.
Yes you are right some look better if they are not slabed

Lovely Show but I agree that as a video watcher i'd like to see labels on the wonderful rocks and minerals
It would be nice for sure to see more labels on things.
I have a place up near Chewelah
I gotta go next year!
It's a good show!
Going tomorrow
Have fun!
Hi - what does a "bow wheel" polisher look like.? Any UA-cam link describing it? Thx.
It's actually called a "bull wheel" and it's kind of like a giant rubber wheel with abrasive belts. You can google it.
I know its a little hard to hear on this video but we were talking about the bull wheel which is just a big spinning rubber wheel that you put belts on.
What do u use to cut your rocks and how do u clean them
I have many videos here on the channel talking about cutting rocks and showing different saws.
👁👁 👏👏
31:22/54:46😊
Why do they put some of the minerals in liquid?
@ShimmerySound ok thanks. I was at the Denver show but I never saw any of the specimens in any liquid
So often things like cut slabs that are for sale get put in tubs of water or there will be a near by spray bottle so that you can see what it will look like when polished.
How much does it cost to get in?
I think in 2023 it was $8
