I was there yesterday, last time i was here was 55 years ago, when i was in 7th grade. This building is THE reason we wentv to visit my capital town. I love about 95 miles away, in Western burbs, i wanted to visit my capital since i no longer feel that Washington can be called such. 🎉

Those lamp statues are the staircase were not “returned” - Illinois actually made replicas of them. It wasn’t cheap.

The challenge of where to put the Capital of IL. was over whether to have it in Chicago, or elsewhere. The final decision was made that, although Chicago is the largest city, and has the Midwest largest industrial population, the thought was that putting it in Chicago would, naturally, mostly ignore the southern party of the state, he (Lincoln) passionately felt that, to represent the entire state, it needed to be centered in the middle of the state, thus showing the importance if all IL residences.

I’ve been to several state Capitol buildings and this does look like one of the more impressive. Didn’t realize it was the 3rd tallest! The fire fighter statue was very unique and impressive. Good video.
It certainly is impressive, though Pennsylvania's is still probably my favorite, and if you haven't been I'd definitely recommend going when the capitols open up to the public again. Thank you for watching!
