History Reborn: The Restoration of the Illinois Old State Capitol

The Storyteller Studios was commissioned by ‪@thriveinspi‬ in 2022 to produce this documentary chronicling the incredible story of how the historic Illinois Old State Capitol was saved and restored in the late 1960's. The film features never before seen archival film footage and interviews with the living architects who led the project. Because of their extraordinary efforts, the site is now visited by people all over the world seeking to connect more deeply with Abraham Lincoln and his legacy.
Produced in partnership with the State Historic Sites & Illinois Department of Natural Resources Office of Land Management.

Thank you for telling this story! Thank you for all the hard work these architects have done! As a Springfield native I drive by this a lot now, and every single time I drive by, I catch myself just looking so intensely like I've never seen it before. But I have to remember I'm driving, so I have to be careful of my staring! Every time I drive by, I think to myself how happy that I live in central Illinois where such profound history has happened. This is just one of the many buildings that represent an ever changing but yet resolute spot in central Illinois and the United States beyond. Thank you again.
