A sub 250g 3.5" FPV Freestyle Beast: Introducing the AOS 3.5 V2

  • AOS 3.5 V2 now in coloured carbon: www.cncdrones.com/AOS-35-v2_p...
    Just because a quad cannot weigh more than 250g doesn't mean that we shouldn't strive for the speed, power and agility typically only available from heavier drones. With the AOS 3.5 V2 you can go toe to toe with 5" freestyle quads with similar flingability and smoothness, while carrying a Caddx Peanut or Insta360 Go, and staying under 250g!

    Looks good! No standoffs between the camera side plates makes me nervous though. Would be nice to have holes for the optional use of 20mm standoffs. May I ask about the max stack height? Any plans for a future low-profile option? 15mm would be perfect.

      A lot of 3.5s that have came out recently always seem to be missing that standoff. I guess the idea is it’s not all that necessary on such a light weight build that won’t crash as hard

    Hi Chris, after few months with the AOS3.5 V2 I can say that the M2 standoffs are fragile and the m2 bolts intend to open very quick. every 3-4 packs the arms get loose. iFlight includes very low quality bolts that strip at the second you try to lock them. in the countersteer version there is not enough thickness at the bolts edges (where the standoffs are) and i've broke the upper plate in that area. hope that the V3 will be stronger

    • @chrisbee5481
      @chrisbee5481 Рік тому +3

      The screws are just too short. 2mm longer are better. Locktite is also recommended

    • @dronevideography
      @dronevideography Рік тому +2

      Love the frame but completely agree. The 2mm bottom X plate holding the arms together with the countersunk screws is an obvious weak point. The 4mm arms are no good if the X plate is so thin it shatters instead at the screw. Happened to mine and good luck finding replacement parts! Awesome drone frame, shame you can't get parts in Europe, tried and failed. I had to order a full new frame from iFlight in China just to replace that single tiny piece. (CNC Drones in Canada stocks the part but charge a mint for shipping to EU making it nearly as expensive as a new frame from China, and iFlight EU doesn't sell the part alone). So while I wait for the frame from China lets see what I can make out of stainless steel and a Dremel. Not ideal...

      @dronevideography 5 місяців тому

      @CoopzVideo where are you? Worth emailing iflight to see if they have any even though bit shown on the website. Also the new versions of the frame come so fast that they discontinue parts for previous versions making it impossible to fix broken parts due to subtle changes in size, shape etc... I stockpiled parts luckily early after buying the frame.

    • @CoopzVideo
      @CoopzVideo 5 місяців тому +1

      @@dronevideography I'm in the UK. Good shout, I might give them an email, I bought the frame from iFlight EU originally. I did follow up asking to buy spare arms but never got a reply and fortunately never needed any. I joined the AOS discord tonight and got a reply from Chris saying CNC Drones can supply all spares and can deliver to the UK in a week. Had a quick look and delivery is $19 CAD (£11) which doesn't seem too bad, especially if I buy a few spares. 2 x 'X Plate Cross Brace' (Buttonhead instead of countersunk!) and 2 x Replacement Arms for £23 delivered is better than buying the V5 frame for £58 + shipping. Wish I had stocked up like you, but I've done that in the past and ended up with loads of spares I never used - I just can't win haha.

    Hi Chris, the work you've done on this frame is greatly appreciated by the community, I'm picking it up for a 3.5" build but I wanted to ask for your opinion on my 5" Catalyst Machine Works Shocker UL, it's got a similar arm design with front and rear braces and I wonder if you've ever looked at it and have any thoughts on it's resonant performance? Also, how durable is the AOS 3.5? If I put 2104 motors on it would it be a durable basher? Or is it primarily suited for sub 250g?

    • @ChrisRosser
      @ChrisRosser  2 роки тому +1

      2104 would be a bit big for 3.5" freestyle IMO. I run 1504s and they're plenty powerful enough. I wouldn't say the frame is a basher it's on the lighter side, ideal for park flying but probably not for repeated impacts into concrete.

      I can run the CMW Shocker Tank (Imperial motors) & HD (2203 t mount) (both with the addon rear back braces) using the tight AOS filter tune with very similar plots. Flies wonderful without all the motor rumbling/resonations that I get from my traditional arm frames. I'm so close to buying a bunch of AOS frames especially for my 7" now haha.

    Hello!
    I am a newbie in this hobby (flying whoop for 3 months). I want to build an analog quad on this frame.
    I think to build 4S freestyle with Mamba f722 55A 30mm stack flight controller and ESC. May be it's heavy (~25 grams), but it has big soldering pads (better for newbie?). I know that iflight Beast 55A (~9 grams) would be better choice, but I worry that my soldering skills are not so good.

    What do you think? What are your recommendations?

    I noticed what I'm guessing is the Caddx Vista antenna zip tied to one of the arms. In the past, you've addressed things that can cause resonance. I'm assuming there are no major issues with the stub not being secured?

    • @ChrisRosser

      Strapping the antenna to the arm is enormously better than any TPU mounted antenna in my experience. The stub doesn't move much at all and is lightweight which also reduces vibration.
