- Here is a compilation of all the Solidus Snake scenes in Metal Gear Solid 2. I thought Solidus was one of the most interesting characters in the whole series. Personally I find him to be my favorite character in the MGS franchise. Metal Gear Solid 2 first appeared on the Playstation 2 in 2001 then on the Gamecube as part of the Twin Snakes Collection and the original Xbox. It was later rereleased again on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 as part of the HD Collection.
The part with Solidus talking about digital censorship hits different now. Prophetic...

15:05 you can tell Solidus has PTSD and regrets the horrors that occured in Liberia. After all, he was around 15 years old, a child himself, when he led child soldiers like Raiden. Biologically 15, but with the physical apprarance and attributes of an adult. Out of the three snakes, Solidus aged considerably faster from birth compared to his brothers, who aged circa their late 30s. Solidus also grew up entirely under the control and supervision of the Patriots. Solidus only had a few months to live by the time of the Big Shell incident, which explains his reliance on his suit and extreme desire to destroy the patriots and live to see the world that his older brother ultimately was able to create and witness in 2014.
He could’ve been a great guy if he valued humans more but sadly he isn’t as he’s purely driven by hate against the patriots

Solid was the only one who got out of Big Boss' shadow, whereas Liquid and Solidus' schemes were essentially rehashes of Big Boss' plans in an attempt to escape his shadow. All of them inherited Big Boss' traits:
-Solid is his love for the battlefield and compassion, but is not interested in legacies.
-Liquid is his ruthlessness and cunning, but crippled by his inferiority complex.
-Solidus is his charisma and appeal, but lacked compassion.

It's actually kind of interesting that he tells fortune to back down there as if he's concerned for her. Solidus was certainly more complex than Liquid, I think Liquid is the furthest from Big Boss of the three brothers. David and George both have many of his traits, David being closer to the pre Peace Walker Big Boss and Solidus being closer to the Post Peace Walker Big Boss

Solidus was like a madman with a noble soul, a patriot with a cracked idea of right and wrong. Good intentions and concepts, but insane execution. It's really difficult to hate him because ultimately, he's against the big villain of the Metal Gear series and really has genuine desires. But his METHODS, TACTICS, the EXTREMISM to which he takes it is evil. He's a shade of gray. Liquid Snake was an egomaniac, Big Boss was a tainted hero, Solid Snake was the reluctant hero we all wanted, Raiden was the young hero with a pure heart and Venom Snake was the man dragged into the mess and made a tragic hero, the Boss was a tragic character, but Solidus Snake is the shades of gray villain, in much the same way Gray Fox is considered the shades of gray hero. MGS really does have some of the best characters.

Solidus not big boss are heroes. They may be against the patriots but their goal in the end was ultimately a world of endless war. They aren't heroes just because they are against the patriots. They are against the patriots because they are in their way.

@@ericmonaco4509 Yes very true. Liquid Snake was a clone of big boss using only his dominant genes. Solid Snake was a clone with only the recessive genes. Solidus however was a clone using all the genes, so that makes him an exact copy. That’s why in MGS 4 they mistook solidus’ dead body for big boss. They’re essentially the same but not the same if that makes any sense.

Solidus in Liberia would've made for some some good DLC for MGSV. Him raising Raiden into a killer would make for a nice contrast with Venom and Eli.
Exactly, we need to see that whole story playout, With Solidus leading a young child soldier Raiden into battle, it should be it's own game where you play as either Solidus or both.
Playing as solidus would be great, but for the story, not really, it doesn't feel the same if they added solidus again with a different voice
Great compilation man. Solidus is a really interesting character, helped by a terrific voice actor (RIP). I can sympathise with much of his motivations, but probably not the execution. His ability to reproduce stripped away from him, he becomes the physical manifestation of anarchy and rebellion in the face of total control and pseudo-fascism. Great character.
Yeah plus him being a 100% genetic copy of Big Boss didn't help with the whole reproductive problem(not like the Patriots will let it slide anyway)
The source DNA came from a man who was exposed to nuclear fallout multiple times (first was in Bikini Atoll; and we can see him in noticeable proximity with nuclear explosions in Snake Eater, to both Volgin's use of the Davy Crockett in the Virtuous Mission, and in The Boss's use of the same weapon before the showdown in Rokovoj Bereg)
So pretty sure when Les Enfants Terribles was commenced the damage to a few loci, let alone chromosomes, was already there

I agree with Solidus being the coolest (and best) Snake but not with the swords part. I used to like swords more but then I grew up and realized that weapons are weapons. Firearms are just a complete evolution of melee weaponry.

Maybe it's just me, but I see a lot of parallels between the scenes of Raiden and Solidus/Jetstream Sam. Both have done something horrific to him and both teach him a valuable lesson. Also the scene before they fight is so well mirrored, where it pans to their faces as they raise their weapons (especially with Sam's mouth guard that reminds me of Solidus').

Solidus is closer to Sundowner than Sam. In fact, Sundownder is almost a complete recreation of Solidus.

There is a lot of great characters in the Metal Gear series like Psycho Mantis, Sniper Wolf, Vulcan Raven, Vamp, Laughing Octopus etc. But for me the best is Solidus Snake and I so wish they brought him back.

The sad thing about the Big Shell incident is that even if solidus had succeeded in getting the data on the patriots it would've just been the names of the philosophers that he got making that whole operation a waste of time

Solidus's goal may have been pretty good, but the ways he goes in reaching it are a hoot and a half. There's being willing to kill his own adoptive son, the same son whose parents he murdered so he could then raise him as a child soldier. Then there's planning to detonate multiple nukes above New York, which would disable all electronics there. Which would also disable a lot of vital equipment, like hospital equipment.

All the characters in the series manage to perform the seemingly impossible task of defeating characters far more skilled and experienced than them. Bit of a running theme.

From what I understand Solidus' creation was even more hush-hush than Solid and Liquid, no one knew he existed except for the Patriots. He aged faster than the other clones (why he looks just like Big Boss despite being the same age as Solid and Liquid) and they created the alias of George Sears to disguise his true identity. He was recruited from birth by the Patriots as one of their lackeys / soldiers, and he ultimately orchestrated the Shadow Moses Incident as President to rebel from them, then faked his death and went into hiding until MGS2. Also for a more simple explanation they hadn't written any of MGSV yet.
He was involves like in his 20s. And as a another war lord in the zones as many.
Kojima was too busy embezzling Konami funds from MGS V to figure out his own series' continuity

Interestingly enough in MGS2 "Original development" before 9/11 happen ocelot was supposed to have a cybernetic arm, and solidus would of had a cure for FoxDie and it was supposed to be six dead cell members instead of four, to mimic the six members of foxhound with the so called S3 plan, pretty interesting stuff, definitely should check it out, if you haven't already 💯💯
