Thinking of doing what you do. I drove OTR for 11 years. Loved it. Stopped for health reasons. But anyone bragging about their money as an otr driver in resent years, is telling a lie. The industry has gotten so bad. If they are making it, they never get home. Keep up the good work 🙏👍
Appreciate your honesty. Some folks have pride issues and think otr is the king of the crop. I have a great deal of respect for everyone that does it, but money can be made both local or otr. My overhead is extremely low, and because of my family obligations, I'm committed to local work. I hope you are doing better and wish you the best whatever you decide to do 👍🏾

As long as the individual is happy with the money and the lifestyle of otr or local/regional deliveries, then you're doing the best option. Whether otr or local/regional is best is relative.

No idea where the business center was, I can't stand when they talk as if I know where everything is. Store was huge, dropoff wasn't even where she said. I've learned through experience, ask where to go, if you follow customers direction, 9 out of 10 times you will get lost

I’ve been running since mah and the first thing I did was sign up with a local carrier. So far so good. They call me for work everyday and I also only try to do local runs. Under 300 miles

What’s your insurance like, high premiums? Commercial? 300k coverage or the 1M?
No DOT needed for what I am doing. Insurance was 300k when I had my authority. I was paying about $545 per month. I let my authority go and have states minimum required commercial insurance. I pay $300 per month now.
Have you considered working directly for a shipper or receiver? Keep doing your thing bro?
Absolutely, consistently working on that. Everyone is money hungry so trying to find the right shipper is very difficult. Constant hustle, hopefully something hits.

As a X Otr driver. Both Cdl a class and box truck Otr experience. Yes he making 8,000 a month but best to believe he running for low rates. Different gas prices high low. Maintenance. Oooo and let’s not forget about that good ole Otr insurance rates. Keep doing you big dog

8k a month minus van payment ,minus 1500 to 1800 insurance , minus gas and expenses at the end of the day he might bring home 3 o 4k after taxes and there away from family . You make good money, are home everyday are with you're wife and kids when it matters you went the right route man

Most dispatching companies are no forced dispatch. Most people search indeed.com or websites like that.
You don't want to sleep in your van tucked nicely up against a crate in the sweltering heat or freezing cold...and pee in a bucket? You're missing out man.
You might want to pad the ratchet where it contacts the pallets. At the edge, and where the metal touches. They can damage stuff. The pressure. Cut right through boxes, crack tile, damage wood finish etc. little padding like a blanket or cardboard you can really crank em down but allows for flex as you drive and stuff shifts a bit.

I did not retire, I did 5 years active duty in the Army. I get benefits from injuries I suffered while serving in the Iraq war. I recommend the Air Force. I think that's the best branch.

I don't like the idea of renting, but do what's best for you. If you rent, make sure you can stay super busy or you'll be wasting money. A lot of gig apps don't allow rentals, so do your research
